Our first stay in Mt. Dora had mixed reviews. The location and staff were wonderful. The ambiance in the tavern, with a jazz trio was also very good. However, even though this is an old facility, care should have been taken in the cleanliness of the rooms. The shades were left down due to the window dirt and windowsills were filthy. It would not be difficult for the cleaning staff to at least address more cleaning issues occasionally. It is obvious that only superficial cleaning is being addressed.

Family surpised for Sunday Brunch -
Upon arrival no one greated us, we seated our self -
Family of 4 had to share two menus - server was not willing to offer additional menus
Our order was delivered to another family - which they only accepted two of the meals, due to the fact that the meals orders were not what they requested. The server tried to offer us them after the staff was quite confused. Had to wait a additional 20 mins for our order to be redone and delivered. Food was good - Thanks to having a good chef. Server was only willing to remove two drinks from our order due to the delay. Upon waiting for our check - we witnessed a server clearing a table - placing her hand in the water glass to remove the lemon wedge and then returned to the half empty glass to retreive a ice cube to wipe down the table - after she heared our daughter speek up about what she just saw - side of the table was sticky from syrup. The server then went to retreive a spray bottle - We do believe if the server had not heard our conversation - we don't believe the server would of retreived the cleaner to spray. Over all - done - will not be returning any time soon. EAT WITH CAUTION! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Thank you for bringing your recent experience to our attention. We were very disappointed to read of the series of events you encountered during the course of your Sunday Brunch on our Veranda. The service you experienced was indeed unacceptable and not in any way a reflection of how our servers are trained or of the service and sanitation standards that are in place. The offending server made personal decisions that have resulted in a strong disciplinary action. We are very sorry and certainly hope you will allow us a second chance to demonstrate that we can indeed do it right and thus leave you with a much more positive, lasting impression of the Inn and our service standards.

We spent last night in this grand old hotel on the lake that has a lot going for it. The location on the lake is fabulous, it is right next to the downtown area, the buildings are picturesque, the bar is great, the breakfast in the restaurant was fine, the staff was friendly and helpful and we felt very comfortable there. Unfortunately, the room came up short. We had a king bed room in the Gable building and it was a disappointment. The musty odor upon entering was difficult to ignore but we had additional issues. The bathroom was a problem. The sink was small and awkward to use with an overhanging shelf. The shower had no hot water. The toiletries were a disappointment. The major problem was the tiny toilet that did not flush effectively. As we were only there for a night, we did not complain to the hotel. They may very well have found us a better room but I was unhappy that they assigned us this room at all.

There was talk of restoration of the hotel. I hope it happens, as it has great potential. This could be a really special place. Until then, however, I would be prepared for a mediocre experience.

After reading mixed reviews for this hotel, we decided to check it out for ourselves. Yes, there is a musty oder which we quickly got use to, the room was clean and neat and we were given plenty of towels and the bed was comfortable. There was hot water and good water pressure. We liked staying close to downtown and walking distance to great shops and restaurants. We loved Sunday's Open Market at Evans park which is walking distance from the hotel and went to the park several times. The grounds are well maintained and lend to the relaxed atmosphere. The docks were great place for sunset, fishing and just relaxing.

We stayed in the Gables, recently renovated. Our little air conditioning unit couldn't handle the Florida heat and our room was always warm and on the last night it vibrated. Also, in room 1723 the TV had issues which we reported when we checked out. We knew there was no refrigerator and no coffee maker so we came prepared.

We feel if we had come when it wasn't so hot, that it would have been a much better experience. We know it isn't a corporate hotel, but a vintage and historic one with a laid back, old world feeling.

It's been over almost 2 years since our last visit and after receiving emails regarding renovations in progress by the new owners we wanted to visit the Inn again. Do not go here for the latest amenities. Go for the laid back feel, oak trees and location on the lake and easy walking trips to Mt. Dora's restaurants and shops. We got a Florida resident rate and most of my requests were obliged except getting a second floor room. Most of the place looked refreshed and brighter, still retaining the old charm and décor, like the early 1900 style bathrooms- the water pipes howled when in use! We wanted a view of the lake and got that, unfortunately our room was next to the ice maker, soda machine and porch. Sunday morning 2 crazy individuals were on the porch smoking and talking up a storm at 6am! After 20 minutes I went out and told them my room was right inside and asked them to move to the pool area. They were nice about it but come on! This is a hotel people are sleeping there at 6am! The other thing was the wedding party that made using the main lobby facilities difficult. However, business is needed and good for the Inn and summer is wedding time! The off-dining room was pretty with blue and white décor and is nice backdrop for special events. Front desk staff was ok, still not as friendly as they could be and they may benefit from some hospitality training. The Tremain Lounge bar staff were very nice and lent me a bottle opener-thanks guys! Go on the ghost tour for some interesting history and paranormal conversations! Keep up the good work with the renovations, this is a property that is worth preserving!

Room Tip: Be specific about your room requests, there are lots of options. There is current road construction...

This past July we spent a relaxing, long weekend at the historic Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora. This was the second visit we have enjoyed at the Lakeside Inn this year and it just gets better. Comfortable rooms, excellent food and drink and a highly supportive, friendly staff in a delightful setting all make for a truly memorable stay. With thoughtful attention to detail, the Inn's management continues to upgrade rooms, improve an already superb menu, beautify and generally make even nicer this unique resort hotel. Of note, for a fine, eclectic mix of local arts, crafts, treasures and jewelry, check-out the Gatehouse Boutique at the Lakeside Inn - a visit is well worth it!
The Lakeside Inn is a terrific get-away retreat and we highly recommend it as a special place to relax, kick-back and enjoy the finer things in life.

Room Tip: Request second floor or higher "lake-view'.
