“Staff was sweet, but room was not!”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

This was our third time staying at the Lakeside Inn. We love the Inn especially it's History. After our second stay we waited awhile to return, mainly because it was in great need of renovations. Our email notifications arrived regularly with updates on the Inns renovation/restoration progress, and we decided it was time to re visit this Florida charm. We called the Hotel direct and requested a room in the main building and booked our reservation, but upon arrival we were placed in one the other buildings. We walked into the room it was dark , musty, and the portable air conditioner unit was extremely loud. We then requested another room, but the only difference was it had blinds instead of curtains. Our three nights turned into two. The staff was friendly and the food was great, but the musty smell and noisy air conditioners were just two much to handle.

This old historic Lakeside Inn has much charm about it, from the bars, spacious lobby, swimming pool facing onto the lake. What would really help the place is an upgrade in the rooms. The mattresses are very soft, the carpet quite old, the furniture very old as well. The TV's are old tube style. The bathrooms are OK as they are from the 20's, well stocked with good towels and toiletries. The rooms need a soft furnishing overhaul.
Staff were terrific and helpful. The food was OK and fairly priced, but there are a lot of good restaurants in the town, a 2-3 min walk away.

The Lakeside Inn reminded me of the grand hotels of yesteryear. True, it did smell a little musty, but that added to the charm as far as I was concerned. If you are a hotel snob and like to the big new hotels, this is probably not the place for you. If not, you will love it. There are two Swan paddle boats for rent and we spent a lovely time paddling on Lake Dora. The food was good and very different. The grounds are lovely. The staff very pleasant, informed and extremely helpful. We thought there should have been a night table on both sides of the bed (not just one) and mentioned it to the housekeeper.....the next time we came back to the room we had an additional night table. Bathroom a little small, but clean and the towels fluffy. Try to get an end room for the best view of Lake Dora. Enjoy!

Room Tip: The rooms at the end of the halls have the best view of Lake Dora.

Lakeside Inn is ideally located in the heart of Mount Dora. Attentive staff, great menu options, delicious food, live entertainment, and the most comfortable beds!

There is a large (and relatively loud) stationery air conditioning unit that keeps the room cool. Could use some renovation, but is still a lovely place to stay. I will be back!

I've been here for over a week now and I must say this is a great place to stay. It is a very comfortable, easy going place. The rich history that comes with this Hotel is second to none in my opinion.
The people that run this place, from the Front Office, the wonderful Girls that keep our rooms in top shape daily, to all the Maintenance and Grounds Keepers have a love for the guest that come here as well as the the place itself. This love was displayed daily. They care about their people. And YOU are their people.
Yes this place is very old and not too long ago it was in poor repair. But the new owners have put their heart and soul into getting this back to the lovely condition that made it a favorite destination for so many travelers over the years.
If you take the time to see what is going on here you will see without a doubt that The Lakeside Inn is once again a great place to stay. It is right on the water of the beautiful Cain of Lakes. It's right downtown in Mt Dora and it's within walking distance to so many restaurants and shoppes I can't count them all.
There are other Hotels and Motels in the area. But none are as close to this lovely town and none will treat you like family.... Even better than family.

I love this place and it's People.

Ron......

My wife and I stayed at the Inn several days and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The staff were very accomodating and the food was excellent. Eventhough there was some renivation going on and the streets to downtown shopping area were being resurfaced, our time at the inn was wonderful..........Looking forward to our next stay.

It is an old establishment with quite a history. So one must expect that contemporary amenities are lacking; it has creaky floors, small rooms, banging pipes, etc. That is a part of the charm. I recognize that and enjoy it. I love places with a sense that sense of nostalgia and a past that includes a speak-easy hidden in the lobby floor, ghosts that roam the grounds, etc. From that standpoint, the facilities were glorious and fun.

However, there is no excuse for obvious hair in the tub at check-in; a 45 minute wait to be served after being seated at dinner; a registration attendant who could not explain a bill and did not know how to put through a credit; nor a breakfast staff that performed like keystone cops.

The Hotel is understaffed and the employees are ill-trained. No managers could be found, no hostesses,...and the help consistently blamed one another for what was obviously poor service. Dirty dishes left on neighboring tables, menus not collected...glasses not refilled, and so forth.
(I will say the food was good once it was served).

The menu in the lobby for the Beauclaire, promoted filet mignon, duck, lamb chops, ...but none were on the menu provided in the restaurant!! What's with that? And no specials for what is supposed to be their upscale establishment?

I was the hotel bill was overstated by over $100 as was the bill of 3 others in the check-out line. And I am still waiting from a call from the manager to correct the situation!

With all that (and even though we will not stay there again), Mt. Dora is a lovely place to visit for a weekend. Quaint, nice shops, nice folk. And good restaurants (try the GOBLIN MARKET... it's awesome.).

Oh, and beware the water,,,, it tasted like the water-softener filter had not been cleaned in a while. ENJOY!

Room Tip: If you want upscale, stay elsewhere; otherwise enjoy the good, down home southern charm that the his...
