Being a big fan of Cincinnati Chili we had to try this place which is open for breakfast and lunch. It was great. Then we discovered they have Amish pies and baked goods that rival Yoders in Sarasota---all baked on site. You can sit outside with your dog and they even provide a bowl of water. A great casual place to relax in Mount Dora.

Their chili and home brewed tea is exquisite and the sandwiches are just great. The use of a former home is right on for turn of the century feeling in Mount Dora

We drove by Ken's Place and I remembered that I had seen good reviews so we decided to stop in for a quick lunch. The outside has country charm with a front porch that offers a few small tables. Inside it is an ice cream shop featuring Big Olaf ice cream which is very good. It is also offers a few candy items etc. for sale and freshly made pies and cookies. Then there are 3 small dining areas that are quaint and intimate. The menu is a combination of specialty sandwiches boasting fresh Amish meats piled on their freshly baked breads and or on their freshly baked bagels which are soft and delicious. There is also chili, a soup of the day and hot dogs available served on freshly baked buns. We decided to try "Ken's Reuben Sandwich". It is described as being served on an everything bagel with hot sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, melted swiss cheese on corned beef with an added note, 'No Substitutions Please!'. We told our waitress 2 please and when she asked what kind of bread, we laughed because we thought they were serious about no substitutions. We ordered it the way it is written and boy, was it delicious! The cheese was like a melted sauce, the bagel was soft and therefore easier to press the sandwich together and it was just plain yummy! We did see others who ordered it on regular bread and the bread looked homemade, thick sliced and lightly toasted. I think it is true if your bread is freshly made and your meats are high quality, a typical sandwich instantly becomes a specialty sandwich. They are open Monday - Saturday from 7am - 2:30pm.
