On a recent hunting trip, I decided to take a chance on the Rice Motel after hearing the great rate (under $50 when we stayed). The owner was sure to warn us that the place is from the 40s and is no Ritz. My expectations weren't high, but for under $50, I'd be happy to have a roof and a bed.
I can say that we were very pleased. The rooms were recently tiled and painted. The bathroom was clean. There was no hiding the fact that it was an old building, but it was very well maintained. The A/C, TV, minifridge and microwave all worked fine. The shower was hot and roomy.
The owner was a delight. She checked up on the progress of our hunts and frequently asked if we needed anything when we ran into her outside. She offered the use of a storage freezer. There was plenty of storage for our boat and truck. The room was cleaned daily, something we didn't expect for the rate.
It's not a Holiday Inn. But if you want a friendly, comfortable place to stay in the area on a budget, it is perfect!More
