I've been to the Raleigh many times before when it was run by Andre Balzas and this is the first time I've been (end of Nov-dec) since it's been under new management.
Pros: 1.It has maintained many of the Deco elements that worked well and it is still one of the most laid back hotels of it's class. No loud music by the pool and not at all scene-y like the Delano.
2. Turn down service is nice.
3. Great room decor though after a number of years it could use a little freshening.
4. Improved beach chairs.

Cons: 1. The Pool- it was FREEZING cold and all we were told was that the heaters had been broken for a while. No ONE was swimming during our stay and we had friends who went two weeks later who told us it was still unheated!. . Kind of a bummer for a hotel with a great pool and when you want to escape the cold of the Northeast. Everyone kind of acted like nothing was happening and we would not have even been told had we not asked. Pool was also very dirty and painted chipped off in many places. They seem to be neglecting this aspect of the hotel which is a shame.
2. Rooms are not quiet. You hear everything in the hall which includes the maids who shout to one another at all hours of the morning.
3. Food- nothing special. In fact, we felt the bar drinks were noticibly worse which was odd. Pina Colada tasted off as did other drinks so we stuck to bottled drinks after that.
4. Staff-mixed bag. Rather nice and try to be helpful but a little clueless as to the art of service but in fairness you are not paying Setai prices here. So for less money I guess it's ok to watch as the waiters talk amongst themselves before deciding to come over and talk to you.
5. The middle "pit" area common to all the hotels in this area like Setai, Delano and National is the least appealing. I've never seen anyone hang out there and for some reason it just doesn't work. Staff also don't walk through it so you never want to hang out there because you won't get service. The other hotels manage to integrate this middle area between the beach and the pool better and make it look nicer.

Went here with my boyfriend for the weekend, and got a really great deal. The hotel had such charm, such history all over in the pictures and the way they decorated, oh and the keys are a nice touch never thought I would be so excited to get a real key to a room instead of a card! The room was big ( for south beach) and kept the hotel room with the theme of retro art deco but had modern amenities like ipod doc and flat screen. The hotel was very romantic, we are younger and mostly would stay at The Shore Club or something if we went to miami for a birthday party or something else but this was perfect for our romantic weekend together and too be honest liked it a lot better then the craziness of the luxury boutique hotels, The Raleigh was more relaxed. We walked around a little the outside restaurant was pretty with the lanterns but we didn't get to eat there. Oh and the pool is GREAT! The walls were a little thin though so we could hear the people next door that had a large group . Besides that it was a perfect getaway wish we stayed longer!

I suspect the Raleigh isn't oo everyone's taste as the rooms are quite minimal and old fashopned and there isthe (still cool) Delano next door.

But i like the location, the pool and the charming staff and have stayed a number of times over the years and always had a good stay.

Good:
- service
- location
- swimming pool (although not heated)
- beach
- breakfast/lunch

Not so good:
- rooms are old: dated bathrooms and rooms (ugly carpet and curtains)
(on the other hand large TV, IPOD doc)
- rooms are not isolated (noisy)
- rooms with a side sea view mainly look out on another building (we changed to a room with a view to Collins Street)

The Raleigh has a classic Deco personality, making it more appealing to my family than some of the generic alternatives. My near-teens had a great time in the terrific pool and the hotel, of course, backs onto the beach. Beach chairs and service were a treat, our ocean view suite was a delight. Restaurant food and service were superb. The furnishings are a bit more beach practical than deluxe. We were in the hotel for what appeared to be a fantastic Halloween Party – our kids we too worn out for us to attend. The party noise didn’t keep us up, but the roar from dismantling trucks on Monday morning shook me out of bed for the day at 5 am! That was the only hitch in an otherwise delightful stay.
