“Minimalism and Bedbugs”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2009

While I appreciate the minimalist approach, I also want some comfort in my hotel stay. The bed was completely uncomfortable, the lighting was dim. As soon as the sun came up, my room was flooded with light - robbing me of hours of sleep. When I arrived there was trash in the sink and the toilet. The positives: the staff was nice and the patio bar was beautiful. Biggest negative: I went home with bedbugs. Will never come back.

I've been to this hotel a few times, most recently a few months ago - and each time is better than before!! I've reccomended this place to so many people...The pool is so much fun, hotel staff is amazing, and Nobu and Ago are always great! Just planned a last minute girls trip back and can't wait to return!

We had heard that this hotel was the trendy place to stay. If your idea of trendy is dirty, run down, and inneficient to non-existent service, you have come to the right place. The rooms themselves resemble a prison cell...concrete floors and futon like beds. Because the entire hotel is concrete, it gets very noisy, especially early in the morning when the staff is walking around. But I was never quite sure what they were walking around doing, since our room was never actually cleaned during our stay.

The location is quite good, on the strip in South Beach. However, for the price, you can stay at much nicer hotels.

The bar area is very nice, and is a great place to go at night. However, you dont need to stay here to get into it.

The pool looks amazing. The problem is that when we got there at 1pm there was nowhere to sit, and we were told that to enjoy the pool we would need to rent a bed for $400. We just went outside to the public beach instead.

The one belhop who stored our bags for us was very nice. Other than that, I found the service to be extremely lacking.

This is the first time I have written a review for anything. Usually, things are within the general range of what I expect. But this was just so off from what I thought it was/should be. There is a Days Inn close by, and the joke among us was that we would be better off there. I dont think that the joke is probably the truth.

Pros: Convenient location, on the beach, nice pool.

Cons: Concrete floors. These really feel cold and dirty. The concrete in the bathroom of our room was turning brown in multiple areas.

Noisy hallways. The staff is out around 9 am talking loudly in the halls which echo bc of the concrete.

Needs upkeep. The hotel wants to be "stylish" but they sacrifice the comfort for the style and they haven't kept up the place very well. The lavendar leather panels in the elevator are permanently stained and quite tattered. The room furniture looks old and cheap and does not fit with the rest of the room decor and color scheme. Flat screen tvs have wires hanging from them (again cheap job).

Expensive Drinks. $15 pina coladas... but all drinks seem to be expensive in SoBe.

Dirty beach. They have nice lounge chairs and towel service for the beach, but the staff fails to pick up trash. So many plastic straws litter the beach. We watched someone's garbage sit on the beach (water bottles, dinner container and cups) sit on the beach for 2 days without the staff even looking at it! If they want to provide food and drink service on the beach they should pick it up. The ocean is not the Shore Club's dumpster! Granted, guests should be responsible too, and picked up much trash on our stay....

Lame Skybar - Not a cool place. The bar was somewhat busy one night. We did not see it on the weekend. It's a rectangular red room off of the pool area. It's small smokey box. Definitely no need to go out of your way to have a drink there. Also, the outdoor "lounge" are off of the bar, by the pool, is overgrown with all sorts of ugly unkept weeds. The outdoor bar is like something out of someone's basement man cave bar bought on overstock.com.

Miscellaneous comments:

The restaurant inside of the hotel off of the skybar area is a joke. We did not eat there, but went to look at it, and basically there are about 9 small tables inside all flanking the big bathroom where the skybar drunkards go to pee. The "restaurant' is set up like a giant latrine...icks. Wouldn't want to eat there anytime no way.

Kiddie pool - There is one, so this can be a plus or minus depending if you like to be around screaming wet brats on your vacay.

Parking was $42 per day. $87 for non-guests.

In sum, we thought this would be a fun trendy hotel like the W. It was so not. I would not stay again and would not recommend it to others.

Well our vacation first started us off at the Whitelaw ( eww...dont stay there) and we ended up moving over into the Shore club which cost more money and we got what we paid for. The hotel was clean, the staff where friendly, room service was quick and the pool area was awesome. The loungy outdoor bar space is decorated with a moraccan theme, there are beds, sofas, chairs and giant pillows to sit on. Its a very cool place to sit and have a few drinks. The only thing I would complain about is that the food/drinks at the pool and the bar where expensive, but I guess thats just south beach. I will stay there again no questions asked.

Although I stayed at the Shore Club over a year ago, I just wanted to post a review now that I have joined Trip Advisor to say what a GREAT experience this place was. Fantastic staff and efficient service. The rooms are minimalistic but very clean. By far the best thing about this hotel is the atmosphere around the pool bar. If you're a young group of friends I would definitely recommend this place. I'm going out again in September with my boyfriend for our anniversary and I cannot wait!!

See you out there! xxx

I really was so disappointed with my stay at The Shore Club. The service was frightfully bad. For example, I asked the concierge to take down my bags on the last day, stayed in the room for an hour waiting, ran the desk three times to no avail, went down to investigate, was kept waiting another half an hour at the desk, while they found someone to bring them down, went for a time pressured lunch, and came to collect them before leaving only to discover that they had not been taken down so a further 20 minutes was spent waiting while it was discovered where my bags were. I had mentioned at this stage that i was now running late to no interest whatsoever.

This was one of many incidences that i mentioned on check-out. Response: no interest. By the time, i got back home from my travels a feedback form from from the hotel was waiting for me in my inbox. I filled this out extensively, with an accompanying letter detailing each incident. But I never heard back from them.

P.S regardless of service, and services provided, I was kept awake each night by high heels clip clopping on the cement floor outside our room very night. Not the loud music from next door (night one) or people shouting down the corridors (night two) but every female that walked past in high heels, i.e. every female.

P.P.S I am a late night drinking party going high heel wearing female, and i still thought it was ridiculous. My apologies to those i woke, clip clopping myself.
