we only had drinks - my husband enjoyed his margheritas very much. The view is spectacular. At sunset it is particularly beautiful.

“Sub standard service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2014 via mobile

Like one of the other reviewers I have travelled to a lot of fabulous restaurants across the world and this one has possibly the worst service I have ever experienced.

The evening started with us checking in with the hostess 1/2 an hour earlier than the dinner reservation with the plan of using the bar area first. The hostess took not interest in our name or locating the reservation then just told us to come back at our allotted time. The bar staff were far friendlier but then when the hostess realised she didn't know who we were and came over to work out that out table was indeed ready she asked one of us to follow her to the table whilst the other waited for the bar bill as they wouldn't transfer the tab.

Once at the table a waiter came over to ask if we wanted water, which we did and we also asked for an ashtray. The waiter disappeared and we didn't get the water, ashtray or any menus for at least ten minutes. Eventually the water turned up, but still no ashtray or menu. We did get a menu five minutes later but it took asking our own and another two waiters before the ashtray finally arrived.

We ordered a shared starter, a glass of red wine, a turkey burger and the blackened squid. The starter did turn up within a reasonable time but was delivered by a different waiter than our own who didn't hang around long enough to allow us to ask for a fork for my friend, he also didn't ask if we needed anything else - like the wine we ordered for instance! After trying to attract the attention of a couple of different waiters my friend had to get up and ask someone to get the fork and wine.

We then waited an extraordinarily long time for our main meal. We asked our waiter about 30 minutes after we had finished the starter where the main meal was, he got distracted on the way to the kitchen and never came back to tell us. We asked another waiter - he too disappeared without coming back to us. The third waiter at least had the decency to come back and tell us it was on its way. Only then did we get our meal delivered to our table by someone other than our waiter. Almost 10 minutes later a waiter appears at our table with a plate of blackened squid and asks us whether we had ordered it, yes indeed we had ordered it, in fact I was already eating a plate of blackened squid with butter beans and olives - the waiter was holding a plate of blackened squid with cherry tomatoes and onions on it. As you can imagine we were a bit confused but the water suggested we take it anyway as we wouldn't be charged twice!

At the end of what turned out to be okay food, our original waiter came over. He asked how the meal had been and we explained our confusion at the double order of two very different presentations of blackened squid and the frustration at the time we had had to wait for the food. Quite incredibly the waiter responded that yes he had noticed a second meal being delivered and didn't know why but as one had the old accompaniments and the other the new he suspected someone must have just forgotten that they changed the menu.

Frankly at that point we were done with the restaurant, paid our bill and left.

Unfortunately the poor service didn't stop there. As with the bar and restaurant there is a beautifully inefficient process of paying for the parking at the reception then waiting an unbelievably long time outside with the valet before the car turns up. It would have been helpful had there been a notice of the process for valet parking which differed so much from the other hotels we visited or indeed had there been someone at the valet who had service on the mind and was looking to find out if they could help us. But sadly no. Luckily we had a sense of humour and simply laughed and put it down to a bad experience we could share.

Interestingly the next evening we met up with people from New York who are regulars in Miami beach who told us that the Miami Standard Hotel is known amongst their friends as the "sun-Standard", a nickname I see someone else has already use in their review. Surely such a well known hotel chain has the staff available with a service focus who can retrain their staff?

“Good Food and amazing sunset view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

This is a cool place for friends, business and date night. It is right on the bay so it is really beautiful. The food is organic and the restaurant is vegan friendly. The chef has been there a long time and has a good following. It is a bit pricey for the portions, but keep in mind you are paying for the ambiance as well. :-) They have a nice cocktail menu and I love that they are made with fresh ingredients.

“ONLY THE VIEW WAS WORTH THE TRIP”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2013

I find the menu disconcerting as it does not seem like a menu for a half way decent restaurant. The service is not even average and everything seems to be below par except the bill. They certainly charge as if they were serving really good food.

“Wow, what a view. Oh yeah, food's good.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2013

The view, the view, the darn view! The intercoastal of Miami never looked as good as it does when you are noshing away on some Mediterranean small plates, or a very good grilled octopus, or dowing a glass of their pinot noir. Complain all you want about the odd menu items that try to conform to the "chill" vibe of The Standard (a vegan lasagna? whoa!), the service is great and the walk from the front door of the hotel through the garden and out to the restaurant is nothing short of, yes, fabulous.
