We stayed here for one night as we had to stop in South Beach on our way to Key West. The hotel was clean and in a great location. The beach was a short walk across the street and at night you felt right in the middle of all the action. All of the staff we ran into were very nice. The hotel does charge for Valet parking and as we soon found out, parking is a bit of a "bear" in SOBE. You are better off just paying than trying to actually find a place to park your car. After the "resort fee" and parking fee you can tack on about an x-tra $50 onto your room rate. Even so , the base rate was cheap and the amenities offered we still worth the price we payed. I would stay here again.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review! I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay at the Catalina and agree with your advice on parking. We try to encourage guests not to rent cars if it can be avoided. South Beach is a walking town and taxi cabs are easy to find. Valet parking at the hotel is $32.00 per night. The City of Miami Beach also has municipal parking garages that offer parking for $1.00 per hour or $20.00 for overnight parking (however - note that you cannot take your car in and out). Street parking is metered.

Warm regards,
Linsey Harris
General Manager

My boyfriend and I decided to go to So. Fla. to celebrate NYE. I had always heard great things about Catalina from friends and with reluctance from my bf we booked two nights. We checked in and went to our room which was in the building to the left of the main Catalina building. When we exited the elevator, into a very dark hall way there was a nauseating smell that hit us both immediately. It was a mix between cleaning chemicals and fried food- utterly disgusting! When we entered the room (we booked an executive style room with a tempurpedic mattress) the room was teeny tiny and the mattress was about 3 inches thick supported on a rickety frame from Ikea. We decided to go back to reception and ask for another room. They gave us one in the Maxine Building; we were told it had a view of the pool and was significantly larger. We wheeled our luggage through Maxine Bistro (rather odd) and into the elevator. When it came to a screeching halt at our floor we could already smell the rancid chemicals (urinal odor blockers) and fried food as if it was being piped through the vents. We got to our room which was larger and came equipped with a tempurpedic mattress as advertised but had no view of any water source as the windows were blocked with numerous tree branches. We did however have a lovely view of the roof of a neighboring building littered with many empty bottles.
Rather then pitch another fit we decided to tough it out. We went to Walgreens and bought some fresh linen scented candles and it helped with the smell in our room significantly. Each time we had to walk down the hall way we breathed through our noses.
The customer service at the Catalina was as fowl as the smell. Aside from the front desk staff everyone in the Maxine was extremely unhelpful. We asked where to get ice and were told someone would be right up to our room with some, 1 hour later someone arrived with ice in a plastic grocery bag. By this point we had decided to have our drinks warm.
Because 18% gratuity is included almost everywhere you go in Miami customer service sucks- when it costs $60 for 4 vodka drinks I would expect the bar tender to be a bit more friendly and chatty with his/her patrons but that was not the case at Maxine Bistro.
Even if the staff had been on their A game, the smell alone is reason enough not to stay here. Go across the street to Marseilles or South Seas.

I had a wonderful stay at the Catilina. The Catalina is located in the middle of all the action on South Beach yet the room was very quiet to rest. Close to Lincoln Rd, restauraunts, bars, night clubs, beach, and the newest hot spot hotels such as The "W" hotel and the Gansevort are all within walking distance. The staff was extremely friendly, beds were like heaven beds, room was clean and comfortable. Ask for a room at The Dorcet section if possible that is where our room was located. The New Years Eve Party was outstanding with three venues to choose from. What a place to bring in the New Year!!

We stayed five nights in the Catalina's Grande Suite. The hotel is located right on Collins Avenue - main strip of South Beach. The hotel is trendy, roomy and comfortable with wonderful restaurants that are inside and outside with great outdoor seating areas.

The service was amazing with very friendly and helpful staff, by the end of the week we knew the majority of their names. The location can't be beat, just across the street from the beach. Loved the free access of bikes and Wifi. The concierge helped us throughout the week and the bartender always had a drink ready for us at happy hour. Can't wait to go back!
