Stayed at “The New” Clifton on Collins and couldn’t have had a more pleasant stay. Adjacent to a great sushi restaurant and a quick dash to the beach and Ocean Drive, it would be hard to find a better deal for the location. And while the rooms could be considered small by Vegas standards, by South Beach standards, they’re par for the course. Loved their eco-motif, down to the photographs in the rooms. Will definitely stay there again if the price stays comparable.

I was at this hotel it's second week open and appreciated it's environmental sensibility. The rooms were clean, bright, well laid out, very pretty and simply decorated (in an Ikea way not in a "needs more stuff" kind of way.) The location is a block from the beach, which is a very manageable walk. The staff was very friendly and courteous. There were a few minor hiccups (I was not given the wireless access code when I checked in) that were due to the fact it was only the second week it was open. I do have to say that this hotel has the softest towels! The manager said they are from a special type of cotton grown in India that is somehow requires less water to launder than traditional cotton. I would certainly stay here again.

We checked into a very, very tight room, but at least it looked new since they have recently remodeled the place. There isn't any place to sit but the beds and after sitting on the bed for about an hour, I noticed a few red welts on my leg. I didn't see anything on the bed or under the sheets, but saw a bunch of very small bugs scurry for cover when I looked under the bottom sheet. Yuck! We left even though we had prepaid for several nights. I didn't want to end up with bed bugs at home so we had to clean everything out of our suitcases and wash all our clothes before returning home. What a nightmare! Overall, the place actually looked clean, but the hallway and rooms were so tight and close together and the walls were so thin, that we felt like we were in a college dorm.

Dear Valued Guests - while we appreciate your efforts to leave a review the information in this review is patently false. The hotel is brand new and all mattresses were custom manufactured specifically for this hotel from natural rubber and bamboo. If this guest stayed in the hotel in January - they were likely the first guests in the room and if there were any type of bed bugs or bugs of any type they came with the guests or in their luggage. The hotel opened for business on January 26th and underwent a complete detailed inspection by the city of Miami Beach and the Florida Division of Hotels within 2 days of opening. Furthermore, we have not received any complaints at our front desk or via email about bugs in this property and we have not charged any guests for their stay if there was an early departure. This is the first and only truly sustainable hotel in South Florida and will be the first LEED Platinum certified building in the state of Florida and we take great pride in providing our guests a great experience unlike any other hotel - and this inludes making sure that there are no bugs or other issues that might detract from our guests experience.

We stayed for just one night. The room was small, but we weren't in Miami to sit in the hotel room! It was perfect for what we needed. The staff was very nice, the rooms were clean, "green", and trendy. We happened to walk in that day and were able to get a room at a decent price. Location was a block away from Ocean Dr. and convenient. We appreciated it's green qualities and think, if given the option, people should support the green hotels over others for the same price. Again, we only stayed for a short period of time, but I would stay again.

They claim to be a 3 or 4 star hotel. They had zero ammenities! You are REQUIRED to pay a resort fee which was supposed to include beach towels, 2 bottles of water, club passes and wi-fi service. None of this was automatically provided.

They also claim to have down comforters and a luxury continental breakfast. They do not.

When we checked in there was one person at the desk and one person at the door. There was no valet parking (even at the $27/day rate). We received no bottles of water or club passes. Had trouble accessing their wi-fi service. There was no mini bar, no sodas, no nothing! (not even to purchase).

It was cold so I requested a blanket of any sort! They gave me an extra sheet. I ended up going to TJMaxx to purchase a blanket!

There was no continental breakfast, not even a cup of coffee or bottle of water available.

The lighting both in the hallways and in the rooms was awful. In the halls they were flashing lights of different colors - looked like a cheap brothel! And in the rooms, the lights were so dim you couldn't see anything- not even to brush your hair, shave or anything.

They provided one bar of soap and two containers of something (unmarked) which I believe to be shampoo and conditioner, but who knows?! No body cream of any sort for your hands.

The bed was a mattress on the floor with cheap sheets and cheap dormroom furniture.

It's in a good location and was relatively clean (it had only been open for two weeks), but that's the only positive thing I can say about the place. There are much better places to stay for $215/night.

We stayed at the Clifton (eco-friendly) Hotel for one night because the rooms were on sale (99 dollars a night) and the "eco-friendly" objective of the hotel appealed to me. Too many hotels in the US do not recycle and are pretty wasteful. Though, after staying at the Clifton I would recommend trying to find a better place in Miami Beach and just recycle your bottles yourself.

Pros:
--Nice Bellman
--Supposedly eco-friendly. Though, the shower had the best water pressure of any hotel that I have stayed in...
--Clean, newly renovated rooms

Cons:
--Rooms are tiny! (I actually felt claustrophibic upon arrival)
--There is no elevator. So if you stay on the second floor get ready to lug your luggage
--Front desk staff were not quite as knowledgeable about the area and the hotel as I would like. Though, one or two of the front desk staff did attempt to make the stay pleasant
--The parking situation is horrible and must be changed. Valet parking is the only option and it cost 25 dollars and takes half an hour to get your car
--There is a mandatory resort fee (beach chairs, bottle waters) of about 15 dollars. I wish hotels would just include these deceiving charges in the initial hotel quote.
--All I could hear was slamming doors for a few hours in the evening and morning. But, I figured out how to crank up the AC high enough that it blended out the noise.

Thank you for your recent stay at the Clifton Hotel. I would like to respond to a few of the comments from the Guest. As mentioned by the guest - the Clifton is an eco-friendly sustainable hotel. The Clifton will be the first LEED certified hotel in South Florida and the first LEED Platinum certified building in the state of Florida. Whereas the rooms are small - this is a historic boutique hotel built in the 1940's and the room sizes are similar to all the other boutique hotels on South Beach. If you have stayed on South Beach before - the rooms sizes are similar to your previous experiences. Furthermore, we have done everything possible to design and custom build all the furniture to provide more amenities and useable space than most any other hotel on the beach - including a desk, ipod docking clock/radio, nightstands, chair, closet and well designed storage space in EVERY room - which many other hotels do not offer. The water useage in the hotel has been designed and tested to offer a savings of over 20% from current building code requirements. The savings are over 60% from the systems in place prior to the hotels complete 2+ year renovation and over similar hotels historic properties in South Beach. Whereas the property does not offer an elevator to the 2nd floor - as noted by the guest, the hotel does have a 24 hour bellman/doorman to assist guests with their luggage and we do offer a handicap lift to provide ADA access to public restroom facilities and to and ADA guestroom. In reference to parking - as with almost all hotels in South Beach - the hotel does not offer a parking lot, but we do offer valet parking provided by a contracted valet company. We provide this service at a cost of $27/night which is much more reasonable than many other hotels on the beach. The resort fee - which is explained on the hotel website and on other on line travel agent websites is $12.50 per night per room. This includes the use of high speed wired or wireless internet, beach towels, beach chairs, unlimited local and toll free calls, 2 eco-friendly bottle waters per day, and access to facilities at our sister properties - including pool, business center, and gym.
