“ROACH INFESTATION!!!!!”

When we first got here we heard other guests complaining to the front desk of roaches, but hoped it was an isolated event. It, unfortunately, was not. This place is filthy, our room reeked of raid and there are roaches everywhere!! On the walls, in the bathroom, crawling on our bags!!!!! On top of that, the room was VERY tiny and dark. There was nothing pleasant about this experience. Do NOT stay here!!!

Your feedback is greatly appreciated! We are extremely sorry to read that you didn't have an amazing time while staying with us! I apologize that your impression of the hotel was what it was. We are definitely not a roach infested hotel. We have our maintenance guys fumigate the hotel several times a week. We also have a professional company come out on a weekly basis and do a deep fumigation. We you able to speak with a front desk agent about your room, and the situation? If so, they would have definitely moved you to another room! We are indeed a boutique hotel therefore our rooms are a bit smaller then the average.

I've stayed in MANY hotels in South Beach and South Beach Group has never let me down. Front Desk Agent Dusko, was very friendly, and made us feel at home, and any question we had, he answered and went out of his way to help.The door man was also exceptional taking care of our bags when we arrived to early for check in, and brining them to our room when it was ready. The room was up-2-date. Big Bathroom, great shower and the Queen Bed was was very comfortable, considering it was used for about 4 hours a night. The open bar for an hour was a great way to meet and greet before heading out into the town. The bartender came outside if we were sitting making sure we were ok as well. Overall, our stay was outstanding and I look forward to go again! Big plus was leaving 20 degree weather and going into 80's in South Beach. DELIGHTFUL!

Room Tip: Rooms on third floor seem to be updated and back of the building were very quiet

We visited Hotel Shelley on 1/28/13 for one night after we departed our cruise. We just wanted to enjoy South Beach for a night. We had a wonderful time. This is a great location if you want to go to the beach. It’s a little bit of a walk to Lincoln Road, but a nice one.
The Upside - Even though our room wasn’t ready (we got there way before check in) the morning staff was nice enough to give us towels so we could relax at the beach if we wanted to. I can’t remember his name but the blond front desk clerk was very informative about the fee that was going to go on the credit card and our bellman Chris was really helpful with our bag. Now, Warning, the hotel doesn’t have any elevators, but I knew before I booked the hotel. Our room was very small, but that was fine with us, because we were only using it to sleep not to hangout. Kristina the bartender, who is extremely beautiful and nice (great combination) was so much fun and during happy hour.
The Downside – The changing of staff! The evening staffs were awful. Once our bartender Kristina left we were replace by another female bartender who was more interested in her phone than serving us drinks. At that pointed we headed out to another bar who wanted our money. When we got back we wanted to unwind and watch T.V. in our room. Well our T.V. wouldn’t turn on. After 10 minutes of ringing the front desk, he never answered. I hung up and called again and he pick up immediately. The maintenance man came in to try to fix the T.V. but at this point we were buzzed and tired. When my cousin is buzz and tired she wasn’t nice and was pissed off to the max! When the maintenance man told us we can use the remote to change the channel but we had to get up and physically turn off the T.V. my cousin was pissed off and let him have it.
Our room is dark. There is only one lamp in the middle of the room and one on the wall. Not enough light.
Check out was easy. We had our lovely morning staff again.
P.S. When you book online there is a resort fee. It would seem more and more resorts are doing this the only downside is the wi-fi is only in the lobby not in your room.

After reading some of the other reviews for the Hotel Shelley I was a little worried, but still optimistic. I was not disappointed with our stay, but it could have been better.

The Pros:
~very reasonably priced
~location is outstanding. One block from the beach, in the heart of everything!!
~Yes, rooms are small - this is what you get in a boutique hotel and it was exactly as we expected. Those who complain about the small room are doing it wrong. You're in Miami. You should be spending minimal time in the room! Get out and have fun!
~ Our room was very clean. Nice, white linens, plenty of clean towels and white bathrobes. Floors are a fake hardwood, Pergo-type floor. At first I was like "ick" but then I realized that that type of flooring is way cleaner and more sanitary than carpeting (especially in a place so hot and humid) They can wet mop after every stay unlike a carpeted room. Floors were clean. This was nice.
~Our room was a little further back from the street noise of Collins on the South side of the building. It was very quiet.
~FREE airport shuttle on the hour to/from the airport. Driver was safe, courteous and professional.
~ Most of the staff is friendly and professional. Bartender (did not get her name - tall, young, long hair, pretty) was super helpful and helped me find a nail salon.

The Cons ~
~ My first contact with the hotel was an email I sent about 4 days before we arrived. I sent it to the Concierge/Social Director and asked him to recommend a good nail salon, close to the hotel. His reply, 2 days later, contained simply a link to a google search for nail salons in Miami. Not another single word like "hope this helps" or "hope you enjoy your stay, here" Nothing. Just the google link. which to me, is like "Hey, dumb**s, it's called 'Google"...try it." Gee thanks. I kinda thought that the concierge was available to RECOMMEND other local area businesses. Even seek out preferred vendors and services to help cultivate relationships??? It was rude.
~ This hotel is owned by the South Beach group. The family of hotels includes The Catalina and Chesterfield and others in South Beach. The only drawback is a central booking office, which appears overwhelmed. We had originally booked 2 rooms for ourselves and another family memeber. He was unable to go at the last minute, due to a medical emergency. We attempted to cancel his room using the toll free # earlier in the day. We were on hold for a long time and ended up leaving a voice mail message, which was never returned. When we arrived at the desk to check in, we explained the situation. The reservation was secured with our family member's credit card for both rooms. We wanted to pay for our room with OUR card and cancel the other room. They just could NOT cope with this. They told us we had to be on the guys "guest list", which we were not. They implied we were trying to charge the whole stay on the dude's card, we werent. We were standing there with our card begging to be checked in and charged.
They told us to call the central booking office to straighten it out. After 15 mins on hold, they answered the call and we were promptly hung up on. It took them a FULL HOUR to get us into our room, and ultimately the front desk clerk had to run to the Chesterfield across the street to find the manager to help us out.
~ Beds are a platform type. There is a mattress on a frame. One mattress in the room was all wonky and had a huge dip in it. If you lay in that spot, you roll out! They need to replace a few mattresses! Beds were not very comfortable.
~ One thing that would be great is if they put a small light into the closet, its SO DARK and we were using our cell phone light to get clothes out.
~ Chain locks on the inside of the room on the doors would make me feel better about security. There is one lock on the door.

Overall, this is a good, clean, nice place to stay. Next time, though we will be trying another hotel.

Nice clean rooms, A little bite small but with really comfortable beds. It has a pretty good location, surrounded by nice stores and a few blocks from Lincoln Road Mall and one block to the beach.

The service desk staff was excellent, very friendly, accommodating and helpful. We were able to leave our luggage when we arrived early and left late. Bus to airport was OK, they pick up at several properties. The free drinks were enjoyable and not stingy on the alcohol. Rooms were OK, worn out but bed, towels and linens were clean. Hallway was dark and floor was not well maintained. It's a good value for its fantastic location, good service, ride to airport and yummy free happy hour.

Gret price, Great location, Great staff are a few of the reasons why I return to the Shelley Hotel
when in South Beach! Proximity to Clubs, Bars, Restaurants, shopping and the beach make this
a no brainer. The staff goes out of its way to assist you in any way that they can and the happy hour is also a great time. If you are looking for a great place to stay, I suggest the Shelley Hotel.
