i've been staying here for years. at first it was a little charming, if not dated. now it is
simply a dump and i incurr several issues that never resolve: overflowing toilets,
no a/c, run-down rooms.

do yourself a favor: if you want to stay on the beach buy yourself a tent and dig a
hole for a crapper. you will accomplish 2 things. first, you will have a dry clean
room. second, use the hole for a toilet and it will work better than the ones at the
sherry.

sure there are some positive things about this hotel, but right now they are severely
overshawded by the bad. best of luck to ya.

There is only one good thing about this hotel, the location. Everything else is so below standards, it is one of the worst hotels you could stay at....do not waste your money. There are two towers, a north and south tower. The rooms in the south tower are a little better, there have been some updates to these rooms. The rooms are not clean, and there have been reports of bed bugs.

I am an airline crew member who stays at this hotel as a result of an airline contract. In the over 20 years of flying, I have stayed at many "below average" hotels, as well as upscale ones.
This hotel is, without doubt, one of the worst in which I have stayed. The location cannot be disputed as ideal: directly on the ocean in North Miami Beach on Collins Ave.
However, if you are looking for a hotel in a similar location, spend the extra dollars to stay at a hotel which is decent with proper customer service.
In the last three stays, I have experienced a rooms which suffer from a great need for replacement or repair. For example: a toilet that overflowed, an inoperable air-conditioner, a shower without any hot water (at all!), a cracked sink which plugged up, and, finally, a supposed empty room which was occupied.
If you look at the pictures of the property, please remember those snaps were taken by a professional photographer trying to "upscale" the property.
Finally, the front desk staff is one of the rudest and inhospitable I have run into in many years. The supreme ruler of the front desk is an older women with a beehive hairdo who glares at you with such contempt if you so much as ask her for directions to the hotel bar.
The Sussman family, who own the property, should consider going into another line of business...one which does not include customer service.

This hotel is very close to the intercoastal waterway, which was the place to be because there was a yacht show going on. I like old hotels, and this is a really nice one. I really liked the chandeliers. My room was decent, and that was all I wanted. Nice staff (front desk, cleaning). Great location to take a quick bus trip to South Beach.

This is very much a hotel that caters to the airline industry. (they say that on other reviews and I witnessed the many toy airplanes behind the check-in desk). With the exception of a couple people, everyone staying there appeared to be from one of the many airlines that fly into Miami. For that reason, I think it is primarily designed for the overnight stay with the crew leaving early the next morning to get on the return flight back to where they came.

Pros-
-very friendly staff
- very large room. (stayed in 707- large corner room with view of ocean and next door property's pool). Had a desk, a large padded chair/footrest, fridge, king bed, large dresser along with plenty of "move around space"
-$1 beer vending machine at pool
-$2 beers in the bar with friendly mother/daughter bartenders
- steps to the ocean
- free pool tables and tabletop shuffle board in "game room"
- nice enough pool with plenty of lounge chairs in shade and sun
- bed was comfortable with soft linens

CONS:
- PARKING...2 blocks away in a small lot that I feared my car would get broken into at..(happily it did not)..and no valet service as an option.
- the hotel is dated.... it just did not look as "crisp and clean" as some of the other neighboring hotels I visited. Old carpet, outlet covers missing, extension cords running from the t.v. to a light fixture
- co-worker's room (#706) never got hot water.
- restaurant at the hotel was never busy..(not a good sign) and the menu did not look appealing
- location is not really near any "hot spots" for nightlife. Had to drive about 25 minutes to get to South Beach on Lincoln street for some entertainment.
- no "fine dinning" nearby. All the recommended eateries listed in the hotel information book were small sandwich/cafe type of locations.
- too expensive for what you got.. co-worker moved to a Marriott property 3 blocks south for a cheaper price and it was newer, cleaner, and nicer.
- neither one of the thermostats (yes, there were 2.???) turned the cold air off in the room. I was always cold in the room.
