“Great movies on Wednesday night”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

The New World Symphony building has a large white exterior wall where movies are shown on Wednesday nights. You can sit in the park in front of the building on blankets. Call ahead to confirm which movie and check weather delays or postponements.

You are totally right! Wednesday night at 8 pm is movie night, sponsored by the City of Miami beach, at the New World Symphony "Soundscape". It's a wonderful way for the family to watch movies outside - for free! Here's the schedule for the month of May 2013:

May 1 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) Directed by Mike Newell

May 8 Sunset Boulevard (1950) Directed by Billy Wilder

May 15 Jaws (1975) Directed by Steven Spielberg

May 22 Bend It Like Beckham (2002) Directed by Gurinder Chadha

May 29 Wreck it Ralph (2012) Directed by Rich Moore

“You have to go!!!!!!”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

A symphony comprised of some of the county's best young musicians. The Frank Gehry designed building is worth the trip alone. Concerts are incredible. Also have free huge video wall concerts where you can picnic in their park. Make sure to go!

“For all music lovers”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

New World Symphony under the inspirational direction of Michael Tilson Thomas a pupil of the legendary Bernstein, now housed in one of the custom built premises and concert hall designed by Frank Geary is the ultimate modern facility for training and performing of young musicians and no visit to Miami are would be complete without attending a performance there. The video-casting of the performances into the surrounding park adds another dimension to the creativity and expanse.

Go to their website and find out when the students present free concerts. The students are superb musicians so their concerts are terrific.

“Plan your trip around the New World Symphony--AMAZING”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

We took a guided tour of the Gehry-designed building on an afternoon before we were planning the Symphony. Our tour guide "Marty" was excellent, fun, well-informed, courteous, helpful and "upbeat." We enjoyed every aspect of our tour and then the pleasure of the Symphony. What a wonderful centerpiece of Miami Beach. Plan ahead for reservations for the tour and tickets to the performance. The projection of the performance on the outer wall of the building is also amazing--you'll need a chair--unless you can score a seat on one of the cement walls.

Thank you so very much for your kind words about my tour - much appreciated! There are 4 docent-led tours per week (Tuesdays/ Thursdays at 4 pm and Fridays / Saturdays at Noon) and this is a wonderful way to viewevery aspect Frank Gehry's architectural genius - from the Atrium, to the Roof Garden with arguably the best views in South Beach, to the wonderful 756-seat concert hall. Guided visits are particularly useful if visitors are here for only a few days and their visit does not coincide with a concert performance, as these are the only two ways to gain admittance to the building. But you, as the title of your review makes clear, planned your trip around both tour dates and performances, so you got the best of both (New!) Worlds - and caught a Wallcast, to boot! Kudos all around!
