Owner description: The New World Symphony (NWS), America's Orchestral Academy, opened its newly-designed 'campus' designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, in February 2011 (previously, the NWS was located in the Lincoln Theater on Lincoln Road). NWS's new home is a $160 million building with attached garage located in a 2.5 acre park at the corner of 17th Street and Washington Avenue in Miami Beach.

Frank Gehry shines in this beautiful venue and combined with Michael Tilson Thomas, Miami Beach is indeed fortunate. Our short stay did not coincide with a performance but we had hoped the tour would fulfill some of the void. Unfortunately our docent, while we'll meaning, did not have the knowledge to impart much information. If you sign up in the future ask for Mart Mueller, read his commentary in this topic. His knowledge about Miami culture and Art Deco is captivating. We know by experience as he coincidentally was our guide for a local tour.

Was in town (by chance) and saw the outdoor evening concert--what an awesome experience to not only watch the concert projected on the building, but to see everyone relaxing and enjoying art in busy Miami Beach was very cool too.

great local symphony that is an interesting contrast to the dance beats of the south beach clubs. Cool new concert hall

South beach has really grown from its drug fueled nights to a city with something for everyone including fine arts

The New World Symphony (NWS) could not agree with you more about the sophistication and culture that has come to South beach in the last few decades - and NWS has had a major role in these happy developments. We celebrate our 25th anniversary this year in Frank Gehry's splendid facility, but most of our past was spent in the old Lincoln Theater on Lincoln Road (which has juist re-opened to much of its former grandeur and houses the H&M department store). NWS was an early arrival in Lincoln Road Mall in the 1980s when the former "Fifth Avenue of the South" (as it was called in the 20s and 30s) had fallen on hard times. NWS' presence there helped to spearhead the area's renaissance. and it is once again one of the most fashionable retails streets in the country - if not the world!

This is the most amazing concert hall in Miami...the building is beautiful; the programs they have are very varied and very affordable. The have mini concerts, free concerts, wallcasts, regular concerts, kids concerts...there is something for everyone. It's my favorite thing to do is to go there for a concert and relax. The acoustics are perfect and it has two parking garages next to it.
