When we first arrived at Congress Hotel we were so excited to see that it really was just steps away from the beach and that it was in the heart of all the action. We took advantage of the complimentary towel and chair, which was a touch we were thankful for. The bars and restaurants surrounding the hotel are very trendy and young, and certainly capture the essence of Miami. It was very, very loud at night into the morning but this is what you are signing up for with any hotel in this area.

The room itself was enormous with a kingsize bed, living area, desk, full-size fridge and freezer, microwave, stove, dishes, etc. It is moderately up-to-date as far as appliances and design, but there were some veryy dirty nooks and cranies. There was a hole above the shower through which a baseball-sized chunk of mold was growing. It looked like a giant patch of moss and literally made me feel sick to see it there. The ironing board was completely stained with brown splotches as if it had seen its fair share of beer pong so I could not iron my clothing. There was also a dirty bottle under the bed and the white curtains were very dirty.

It is too bad that the hotel doesn't take care with these details because we would have easily given it a four star if it had the same level of cleanliness as a Marriott would. When you see those details that can be easily fixed (and SHOULD be fixed in the case of the massive mold ball) it makes you wonder (and shudder to think) what else was skimped on and ignored.. You CAN be GREAT so put in that extra effort and pay attention to those details that MATTER!!

One last thing- the guy at the front desk tried bribing us to say how great our experience was with him in our TripAdvisor review in exchange for a future hotel discount. That rubbed us the wrong way considering the purpose of this site is to get honest reviews from real experiences (and it clearly violates T.A. policies). We hadn't even talked to him during our stay before we checked out anyway! Not impressed there...

My family and I stayed at the Congress Hotel the night before leaving on a cruise. I must admit I was not sure what to expect due to all the bad reviews however to our surprise it was magnificent. We arrived a bit early but were able to store our luggage till check in which is at 4pm. In the mean time we were able to use chairs and towels at the beach which was a plus. The girls at the front desk were very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. We called down for towels and the housekeeping lady I believe her name is Gladys was as nice as can possibly be. Overall we had no issues and have no complaints :)

Went to South Beach with my daughter for the BCS football game - this is an important factor in the review. When 100,000 plus football fans show up in Miami many of them will head to South Beach, as they should. It gets crowded, loud and filled with lots of fun. High points: fantastic pool area (6th floor over looking Ocean Drive and the beach); terrific service by Brandon at the pool; great location - literally South Beach Central. The room we had was not in the "main" building, and about as far removed from the street noise as could be possible. Literally just steps from the door to the sidewalks of Ocean Drive and across the street from the park and beach. A resort fee is tagged onto your bill, so make sure to take advantage of the beach chair/towel concession on the beach. The rooms are large and the appliances, etc. are very good. Negatives: I found the bathroom/shower to be nice and large. It appeared clean but some sort of odor was present; couldn't determine what or where. No views; you will want to keep the curtains closed if you are not overlooking Ocean Drive. Consequently, the rooms tend to be dim. Noise - this could go on until 4:00 a.m., so be ready for what you are getting into. Last - the weather - simply awesome. In the end, I would opt to visit SoBe instead of staying there, and would likely stay farther north next time.

Room Tip: Unless you are planning to spend a lot of time in your room, ask for a room at the back of the build...

Large suite rooms with appliances. Staff is very nice and helpful. Some of the rooms are above Ocean Drive restaurants which are very noisy at night. We moved to a quieter suite which was perfect for our stay. Pool and deck area overlook ocean and is very beautiful. Beach towels and chairs are furnished across the street at the ocean. Our family would positively stay at the hotel again.

Room Tip: music loud at night so stay in T or D building away from Ocean Drive

We arrived in SOBE after Christmas on Dec 26. It was pretty packed with people. We booked a room with an ocean view and balcony. We got an ocean view but no balcony. The desk gave us a different room because I asked for something a bit quiter. Our room had a kitchenette, fully equipped, making for a very homey feeling. The rugs should be steamed cleaned, however, smelled like smoke and some stains, even though we were told it was a smoke free hotel. This hotel is right on Ocean Drive in the heart of party central, loud music and lots of loud party folks at night. The music goes well into the night. It was a bit hard to sleep well because of this, but we knew it would be loud. The bed was very comfortable. The couch pulled out as a futon for our 3rd person. The room could use a floor lamp and end table for extra comfort. The desk folks were nice to give us comp. breakfast vouchers for our stay, since Expedia did not include this in our booking. They had free champagne , apples and cookies in the lobby. Our room was in the next building , so we had to go outside to get to it. The pool is located in the main building where the lobby is located. NICE POOL GORGEOUS VIEWS! Housekeeping was not good at all however. We rarely had enough toiletries and towels. The front desk did however respond to our needs when called, including a stopped up sink. They really tried to accomodate us whenever possible, and they were really pleasant to work with. Overall I would recommend this, in walking distance to everything, restaurants right on Ocean Drive, easy access to public transportation and shops. And of course the beach right across the street, very nice! This hotel is a good place to stay if you want to be centrally located. As for the issues it presented, the management was very fair and very accomodating whenever possible. We had a great time in SOBE . Thanks to the staff, for making our stay as pleasant as possible.

Room Tip: Side rooms have balconies, partial ocean view and not right on Ocean Drive, Might be quieter
