“Nice, but too cool for school”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

Recently spent a 4 day weekend here with my wife and another couple. I was planning to stay at either the Loews or the Ritz Carlton, but my friend had a corporate rate at the Setai, so we agreed to stay here. Got off to a rocky start when I arrived at 3 pm and had to wait one hour before getting in to my room. The manager said they would comp my lunch but that wasnt done until I said something upon checking out. To be fair, it's a beautiful hotel. The small size meant everything was close by and you never felt crowded anywhere even though the hotel was fully booked. The room was nicely decorated and spacious, but not much of a view. Breakfast was amazing though expensive. Beach was great, with very good service. Gym was terrific. My only issue was the overly dim lighting everywhere and the prices reflected the quality. Most of the guests were from Europe and not many kids. It was very nice, but for some reason, I would not feel compelled to go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a seaside view but it might cost more.

The rooms are very spacious with seating areas and a very large bathroom.

Plenty of seats at the pool and the beach. Service overall is on the very slow side. It has taken in average an hour plus to get a drink at the beach and an additional hour to track down a waiter.

The restaurant for dinner and brunch were ok. The room service for breakfast was better than the restaurant.

Very quiet hotel, great place to relax!

The Setai is certainly a unique experience.

Pros: The tower condo apartments are gorgeous and offer great views of the beach and water. Rain-head showers are relaxing and the bed is super comfortable. We enjoyed the two-person tub. The pool and beach service are amazing!! Each of the three pools is a different temperature. The workout facility is small but clean and overlooks the pools. This resort is in a perfect location. Easy walking distance to shops and restaurants on Lincoln Road.

What's not to love? If you are American and in the 30-40 age range, you stick out like a sore thumb! Most clients are European. Many older men with much younger women. Although there is a designated "family pool", children are consistently in all pools. The concierges in the tower side are rude and not interested in assisting guests. We finally figured out the hotel side is (a special thanks to Daniel) so we chose that side for services.

If a pretentious atmosphere doesn't concern you, Setai is a fabulous choice.

from the time we were seated to enjoy our iced tea at check in i knew we had arrived at a special place. the hotel is beautiful but so are the people and by the people i mean the staff. they know your name and get to know you so they can add to the splendor of your experience. highlights not to miss include the beautiful relaxing spa and services and the breakfast buffet. there were so many little things that were done to enhance our stay like asking us what time would be convenient for us to have house cleaning. the music and the ambience enhane one's sense of relaxation. this hotel truly gets it right.

Not a big fan of the area, but this hotel certainly takes the burn out of it. Upgraded to an enormous two bedroom suite with full kitchen, balcony overlooking the beach, etc. Didn't want to leave the place. That said, it's expensive and gets insanely expensive during events like Art Basel. And even though I'm not a big beach guy, their beach is nice, as in the pool setup.

My wife and I used to live in South Beach until very recently. We had seen all the hotels around Collins and Ocean and thought they were just overpriced tourist traps. So, when we decided to visit our old hangouts we found ourselves in a difficult situation. We needed to book a hotel!

Out of all the offerings, this one looked the most appealing and different. When we arrived we were not disappointed. The facade was a bit hard to find as the driveway was not as elaborate as other places, but this was not a huge problem. The hotel section of it was much smaller than the residence side, but it was in a great location and facing Collins Ave and 20th Street.

Immediately upon stepping inside we were greeted with floral smells and soothing sounds. The concierge staff quickly checked us in and they gave us a short tour of the facilities and explained our room. Our car was parked (keep in mind valet is $40/night if you bring one) and our bags brought up to our room very quickly. We faced the inner courtyard for a quieter experience and blackout shades were available to shield us from the sun in the early morning.

The breakfast was amazing! Fresh fruit, delicious pastries, strong coffee, and omelets made to order every day. The pools were very well maintained and the pool side bar served healthy and delectable food and drink options. The free bottled water at the gym was a nice touch, although if you're a huge workout buff some of the equipment was a lacking, albeit functional. The spa was extremely relaxing and our couples' massage was well worth the price.

The Asian theme and flair was evident everywhere and really provided a nice respite from the normal South Beach hustle and bustle. The rooms were spacious and immaculately maintained. The staff was more than helpful and frequently went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of. If you can afford it, this is THE hotel to stay at in South Beach. I can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Check for specials such as free nights and free breakfast, they can really help to save money and en...
