Description: Overlooking Ocean Drive from the veranda of the Avalon Hotel is the 25 year old, acclaimed restaurant, A fish Called Avalon. Cuisine features local seafood prepared with a sensuous, tropical flair. An extensive wine reserve and full service bar naturally compliment our great food.

Originally we were headed to another restaurant but it was closed. We were referred to Avalon and decided to stay. Although we did not have a reservation we were accommodated with a table outside. However, you don't want to sit at the table next to the door for two reasons: all the servers are coming in/out along with hotel guests, and the musician seeing can be quite loud so it was difficult to have a conversation or hear the server. The food though is the star and it was delicious. I had the sea bass and my boyfriend had the Mahi Mahi special. Both were fantastic. We split a salad which was good since it was so large. If you are a bread eater you will love the warm bread they provide. Overall, I was pleased and would return. Also, be aware they will add the 18% service charge (tip) to your check. You can leave more, but your intent may not be to leave a 36% tip or higher.

A party of four of us really enjoyed our evening. The food was really well presented and well cooked - was not quite sure about the flourescent green light under the prawn cocktail but i guess it is Miami Beach!. We sat outside on the patio and it was a warm balmy evening - lovely way to spend our last night in South Beach!

Our first night in South Beach we had dinner at A Fish Called Avalon. We were a little late for our reservation, so our table location was not the most desired as we were placed right in front of the hotel front desk, but that is the only negative we had. The food from start to finish was wonderful and our service was even better. I would return every time back in South Beach.

Our 2nd time at AFCA, for NYE, it is much classier than other restaurants on Ocean Dr. The salad might have been plated a little too long, but our sea bass was cooked delicately cooked to perfection. With pre-fix you never know about service, but ours, Torbjorn was so great we added tip to the already 18% added - he was so kind to advise us, and we said, we know! With fireworks right across the beach - this is a reasonably priced place to be for NYE.

We read the reviews and thought this sounded like a good spot for dinner. As others said they were pretty much the only restaurant without a hawker and that alone impressed us. They took reservations but accommodated us and the food and service was great. I had seafood risotto and my wife had snapper. Both were excellent. Of all the restaurants along Oceann Ave this is one wholeheardtly recommend
