“So worth It”

Joe's is only open a few months during stone crab season. We visit when we are in Miami at this time of the year. I love their seafood bisque, creamy and just a touch of sherry. Stone crabs come in all sizes and with their special mustard sauce. I ask for warm drawn butter on the side. They also serve steaks, seafood, hamburgers, and a wide variety of side dishes. We also had a lobster roll which was delicious. Joe's doesn't take reservations and is very crowded at night. Expect a 2 hour wait. We went during lunch and only waited about 30 minutes for an outside table. It was pricey for lunch, but well worth it.

“Take-Away is the place to eat quickly”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2014

I have a difficult time understanding these popular restaurants that don't take reservations and force you to wait for hours. Thankfully, Joe's has an alternative...the Take-Away is really a cafeteria-style place that allows you to try the food without the wait. We stumbled upon it after putting our names in for a two hour wait at Joe's. We decided to go for a walk instead of standing in a crowded, ridiculously noisy bar or lobby. Well, next door was a sight for sore eyes. at the take-away, you place your order at a register, when they call your number you pick it up and bring it to your table. There are lots of tables and chairs and even a bar. The food is the same as the restaurant, according to the waitstaff. We enjoyed the stone crabs, which were phenomenal ($42 for 6 select claws) , but the conch fritters were nothing to write home about. The key lime pie was really excellent, very limey.

“Order take out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2014

The food is good but I not a fan of the ambiance or chaos. I like to order take out and dine elsewhere.

“Not what it used to be”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2014

Joe's is good for their fried oysters and chicken, Their cold seafood dish is pretty good, as well.
But the last few times we have gone for stone crabs, they have been frozen. Now when we want stone crabs, we order from george's or just pick them up from Epicure or Fresh Market. It is a fun place to go if it's not too crowded. The wait staff and ambiance is very old Miami Beach. If you have never been it's very worthwhile. And I do enjoy the take out restaurant.

“Long wait, but great legs.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2014

My wife and I ate on a Friday evening, so the wait was about 2 hours. This was not our first visit to Joe's, and it was on my wife's mind, so we had to go even if we had to wait. We met many friendly people and the bar, so the wait did not seem bad. Once seated, we ordered the colossal sized stone crab legs. They were great.
