Step back in time at this 100 year old establishment. We were lucky, getting there around 6:00 and got the last available table. When we left the wait was easily 2 hours. But there is a large bar or outside area. Most people did not seem to mind.

Service is second to none. Ask, and it will be brought or done. Drop something and it is scooped up, seemingly before it hits the floor. The food is pricey. But combine the atmosphere, service and quality you know what you are paying for. It is also alright to order family style and share. Drinks were full pours and strong. The baked clams were delicious with 3 huge clams. Could be enough with a salad for someone who eats small meals. We found the snow crabs, Alaskan King Crab and the shrimp all tasty, prepared well and enough to eat. If you like brussel sprouts, give them a try. Dessert was great. The key lime pies was cold, fresh and creamy and the chocolate pecan pie ala mode disappeared before I got a second spoon full.

To bad the season is over. If you are in South Florida, October to May, this is definitely worth the time and money. Even for lunch, just to say you had the experience.

We have been to Joe's before (4 years ago) and I have a great memory of their chopped salad- which was as delicious this time as I remember last time. The experience was odd this time, the downfall was our waitress. She was extremely pushy. She had one goal and that was to make our bill as expensive as she could. It was annoying. She recommended the most expensive of everything. When we ordered our dinners, which were a la carte, she asked "What side would you like?" The way she asked made it sound like the side was included and we just needed to pick one. Another thing she said was, "Is that all you are going to get, you don't want to leave here hungry?" Interesting comment when we started off the whole night with the reason I came there was to get the chopped salad. We did have fish (which was small) and stone crab and salads. She was just overboard and ruined the experience. The food was good and fortunately the wait was not long that night, but with all the great restaurants in South Beach, this one is overrated.

Ordering is a little confusing, but the wait staff are excellent and help you through the process. We had stone crabs for the first time, and enjoyed them very much. They were served cold, and already cracked, so eating them wasn't a chore.

If you've never eaten there, Joe's classic plate is a good choice. It includes a bit of all the good stuff on the menu, and comes with a generous slice of key lime pie.

One in our party ordered salmon, and said it was the best she had ever eaten. Another of us didn't eat seafood, and had the sirloin burger. She said it was excellent. We heard later from friends that the fried chicken is great, too! But don't go if SOMEONE in your group isn't going to order stone crab claws. After all, that's what they're famous for.

As always, check your bill... It's a huge restaurant, and mistakes are made. :-)

My sweetheart had been wanting to go to Joe's for years, so we took this opportunity while in Miami to dine there. When we arrived we noticed there was a huge wait. It was a weekday evening and the waitlist was approximately 2 hours for us. A party of 2. We were able to order a glass of wine and an appetizer while sitting on the terrace while we waited.
The service was great from the start and food was delicious. We ordered the crab cakes appetizer and they were the most devine crab cakes we had ever had.
After waiting for what was about 2 hours we went to see how we were doing for a table. While waiting to speak with the Host calling the names on the list. I noticed a few gentlemen slip him money for a quicker wait. Thankfully when asked when our table would be ready we were only a few minutes away.

When we sat down we were greeted by a server who had been there for along time. He was fantastic in his discriptions and his service and he made our night fantastic. I wish i could remember his name. He was just superb and answered all our questions and even tied on our crab bibs on both of us. His reccommendations were perfect and we ordered the Stone crab and the king crab with a side of the tomatoes and potatoes. It was way too much food but we gobbled it all down because it was so delish! We ordered the key lime pie for dessert... Oh my God is it ever good. I love key lime pie and this is the best i've ever had.

We had a fantastic night that regardless of the huge wait was one of our most memorable nights in Miami. THanks!!

Unfortunately stone crab season is almost over, because the crabs were fantastic. Definately try the fried chicken as well. The service was fantastic and friendly.
