This is one of my favorite places in Miami. Food is awesome! I take all of my guests to try this place and everyone I've taken there loves it.

Vacas Gordas used to be our favorite restaurant in Miami. When it was smaller, it had character, charm and really honest food. It had a neighborhood vibe too- you were in Miami but not dining with the tourists most of the customers were natives. The owner was gracious and made sure that the place was running well.
Last night we came back to eat, one year later and couldn't believe the difference. We had seen the newly expanded and renovated restaurant on our previous visits (beautifully done). We were not prepared for the menu changes- prices through the roof! Service was poor and with a "who cares" attitude. We felt as if the waitress was trying to push us into ordering more food - appetizers, dessert, sides, more wine for one reason only and it wasn't for our enjoyment. The food was very mediocre- mixed vegetable grill was bland and boring - only the red pepper had taste. The rolled steak (house special) used a poor cut of meat and was very tough. All in all, a very poor experience complete with panhandlers coming over to your table and loud music blaring. We did not see the owner (who we have always liked speaking with) and could only remember with nostalgia when Vacas Gordas was a great place to enjoy a Miami evening.

We were a party of 9 and they made us wait over 1 1/2 hrs! The Owners private table was available but they would only give it to us if we ordered minimum 2 bottles of wine over $150! To boot, i was raining and they made us wait outside!! Owners did not even have one friendly jester towards our group. Didn't want to make a scene with the other couples, therefore we did not
leave. The Owners were reprimanding one of the servers in front of everyone! Totally uncalled for!!!!!! NEVER, NEVER , NEVER again will they see our faces!!!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

Food was good, portions were large...maybe a little over priced.

The waiter we had (tall and bald) was rude and pushy...

1) Criticized food selections of several people at the table (all in a not too veiled attempt to sell, sell, sell.)

2) Made a sign to his fellow waiter to signify that our table was full of homosexuals... at which time they shared a laugh

3) Without offering dessert or coffee, the waiter threw the bill in the middle of the table... obviously trying to push us out for the next customer

4) As there were multiple parties paying, he tried to get an extra $45 out of us... and only after our insistence that he recalculate did he admit his error

A bottle of their house wine fell off the table behind us (super narrow tables) and their waiter and the manager forced the customer to pay for the bottle.... it was obviously a poor set up on the restaurant's part... they crowd the wine on these narrow tables... trying again to sell, sell, sell. The place felt more like a nicely decorated used car lot than an upscale Argentinian steakhouse.

I won't be back.
