The first impression of this Lincoln Road al fresco restaurant is the creative mixing of ingredients to invent some excellent dishes on the menu. Sure there are the regular pizzas and pastas, but the salads feature interesting combinations you might not prepare at home. And when I dine out, I want to see some dishes that I cannot create more cheaply and to better taste at home. So Spris is on my list of good food places in South Beach.
(On South Beach's Lincoln Road, there are too many tourist traps with touts [disguised as hosts] outside to entice you to take a table. The turnover of restaurants on Lincoln Road is great, so many do not live by a consistently good reputation, but by salesmanship directed to tourists.)
The service here can be spotty, as in many South Beach places, but generally smiling and personable servers. I have never gotten attitude by the host/hostess, as some places almost scare you away by some sort of haughty attitude. (It's a South Beach thing, rubbing off from the velvet-rope clubs I am sure, but having no place at an al fresco dining establishment.)
Spris is the kind of place to have a nice lunch or very casual dinner. I would not called it a "date place," as the atmosphere is "what-you-see is what-you-get on Lincoln Road." The indoor dining area is small, close, and somewhat noisy. I pass on by during inclement weather, as there are other places with much nicer interior dining space.
