Wow!!!! This place lived up to my standards and up to the reviews mentioned on trip advisor. I flew in from Toronto and stumbled upon this great restaurant, we walked in with no reservations and quite dressed down compared to the south beach crowd... We did the omakase menu and I highly recommend to try it on your next visit!!! We began with the ceviche truffle amuse bouch and each course was better then the next ****rock shrimp-delicate shrimp bites with spicy aioli (addiciting!!) *****baked crab crack rolls - soy paper crab special chef sauce_ok..***BRUSSELS -Must have ! We ordered two. The dessert was doughnuts but I was so full so they packed it for me. Our waiter Ricky was very helpful with his wine pairings and suggestions. Please open in Toronto Katsuya!!

I eat Sushi/Japanese all over the world and typical to Miami, this was totally overhyped. First off, the menu was dirty and raggedy. Not a good sign for a place that seems itself "fine dining". Service was "ok" but they aren't employing culinary experts. The food itself - miso cod was WAY too sweet, and the rolls were dry and average at best. If you want sushi - head over to Sushi Samba a tried and true basic sushi joint. Didn't go to the other restaurant here although the menu looked intriguing. Would give that a shot before Katsuya if you want to eat at the SLS!

Hello Exeter95,
We are so sorry to hear your experience with us wasn’t perfect! The situation you encountered at our restaurant was pretty rare, but that doesn’t make it any more right. We always try to do our best and hope you will let us prove this to you during your next visit. We greatly value your feedback and will make sure to follow up with the culinary team regarding the Miso Cod. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly if I can ever be of assistance here at Katsuya.

If you like to dine in north pole, lets go. Food is very good. Service, like almost every where in Miami beach, not so professional...

Great restaurant, food and service. Even better since we did not get a kiddy menu for the kids.
We love to teach our kids to eat well young. The crispy brussel sprouts, miso black cod, Japanese tuna salsa and Sunset roll, excellent. The crispy rice tuna and halibut Usuzukrui, sublime. Skip the wagyu ribeye. The staff was great. Ryan, server did well with the kids and food
recommendations.Support staff was great. Do not try to order all your food at once. Go with the flow, order a couple of dishes every time the staff brings something over. Not inexpensive.

This is a great style restaurant as you would expect from an Starks design. The food is Japanese and with a very varied with 4 different kitchens. Very tasty and well presented.
Two buts, it is not cheap and while service was very friendly it is very inconsistent at times and a bit disorganised.
Overall a very good experience
