I've dined at Katsuya in Miami at the SLS twice now and both experiences have been wonderful. Attentive and informative service coupled with delicious food made our meal enjoyable and worth the money. It is pricey but you will find that at any of the restaurants on Collins Ave. in South Beach. My recommendations are the baked crab hand roll, spicy tuna on crispy rice, albacore tuna with crispy onions and their mochi for dessert.

We are Japanese fans and we appreciate Japanese food so we were anxious to discover Katsuya which had been recommended to us by a lot of friends. Everything was perfect from start to finish. We had the open sushi, tuna salsa, sashimi sampler, katsuya roll and 2 suki yaki maki and to finish the unbelievable mochi dessert. The katsuya roll is out of this world and the rest is absolutely perfect. We also had a FarNiente chardonnay perfectly chilled.
A memorable evening.

We took the recommendation from Tripadvisor and we're not disappointed. Can highly recommend the crispy Brussel Sprouts and the black cod - awesome. Japanese ice cream also pretty cool. Waiter was superb - really helpful. The staff were all superb and could not do enough to help.
Thought the design of this restaurant could be cooler. Phillipe Stark not really noticeable in this part of the hotel.

5 hopeless hostesses try to deal with the reservations and table assignments while a mustached maitre d' move chairs and tables across the room but he clearly lacks the basic skills for the job.
The food is - just to be nice - mediocre. The chef has clearly never tried what Nobu serves. Otherwise he would feel embarrassed by the comparison. What about suggesting that he takes a plane to NY and learns something from Sushi Yasuda or Morimoto? But he can just walk two blocks north to learn really a lot from Nobu.
In any case if you do not care about the food or the service, come here, wait for one hour for your table and then have fun watching a crowd of bridge-and-tunnel people (NY definition) acting as South Beach queens and kings.
I have done twice and will not come back.
