Good Service small portions - somewhat authentic and very South Beach - Very expensive but somewhat intimate.

“Its Fun!!”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

This is my favorite spot in south beach. A trendy restaurant in a Beautiful hotel, great food, good service, its just where you need to be. With all the great restaurants in south beach I went to Katsuya twice during my 10-day visit to south beach.
You defiantly need to call for a table.
Dessert was not my favorite.

“Sushi in a Huge Space”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

Everything about Katsuya is out-sized:the space with its white whiteness and 20 feet ceilings, the ambition to conquer the world (Dubai, LA and on and on) with high-ish end Japanese food , the giant eyes as a tableau peering out from behind the sushi bar...

So, you are promised at least a scene.

The food was overall quite well executed and the service was crisp and schooled. Katsuya has some interesting riffs on items (the Stripped Baze, for instance, is superb and the vegetable tempura light and fine ) . The squid was unfortunately very chewy. When noted, we were told- you should have told us before you ate it. That may be a fair point, but not really a good response at this price level.

I suppose that Katsuya did not disappoint, but there is this weird juxtaposition of traditional Japanese dining as an intitmate experience and this kind of warehouse style thing. They try and bridge that gap by announcing guests upon entry as in a more intimate restaurant. In the huge room, the calls simply disburse into the ether.

I would come back, but I will not rush back.

“Amazing Sushi”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

Lots of great choices for dinner! It was a busy night and we sat at the sushi bar. Service was slow and thought we had been forgot about. The General Manager came over and apologized and everything we chose was delicious and our server was very attentive after that! The fish was fresh tasting. Try the Baked Crab Rolls, they were tasty! We will definitely go back.

“Great food, but LA location is much better”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

Crispy Rice With Spicy Tuna - enough said! The location in LA is much better but this will curb any sushi craving.
