My wife and I spent 4 nights the second week of February. Used points. It's worth separating individual aspects of experience and providing a little background.

Location: Hotel is at the corner of Ocean Drive and 1st Street in the South Pointe district of South Beach. This is a quieter area than several blocks to the north, where the famous art deco hotel district is located. It is nonetheless an area with its own architectural character (the oldest hotel in Miami Beach, Browns, built in 1915, is across the street) and continues to be built up further with luxury condos. It also has its own set of higher end restaurants (e.g, Joe's Stone crab) and boutique hotels next to or within walking distance to the Hilton Bentley. There is a nightclub located to the south of the towers on a large great lot without a multi-story building, allowing for ocean views. The hotel, being located on an ocean front parcel, has direct access to its own wide swath of beach, with white powdery sand fronting sandy bottomed, fairly shallow and turquoise colored warm water.

Accommodations:The "hotel" is really a condominium built in 2004 in two adjoining 10 story towers, one facing the ocean and the other Ocean Drive, connected up to the 4th floor by a parking garage beneath, with a fountain, seating area, jacuzzi, and spa/massage rooms placed over the 4th floor for recreation/relaxation, and to enable access from the elevators running up the ocean side tower to the street side tower (which doesn't have direct elevator access). Each tower is roughly the same dimensions, but each has a somewhat different placement of exterior balconies, which are included on some but not all rooms. All rooms in both towers facing the south and east sides have ocean views (direct oceanfront on the east side of the east tower). Interior rooms facing west or north (except for the east side ocean front rooms) do not have or only have a head twisting ocean view. If having an ocean view is important, then these characteristics need to be taken into consideration.

Built as a condominium, each room has an owner (there is active selling and buying of the units). Hilton manages the property, renting out the individual owner units for vacationeers. Each room has its own decor and furniture. The room sizes vary from about 300 square feet to the penthouse suite which functions as a huge, luxury apartment. Marble floors and bathroom tiles distinguish the units, as do light filling glass walls on all outward facing sides, which are covered by adjustable opaque and transparent draperies and curtains. All rooms have a mini-kitchen or full kitchen, depending upon size, with fridge, microwave, sink, toaster, and glassware, plates, and utensils. The mini-fridge units are stocked with chargeable soft beverages, beer, liquor, etc. plus dry package foods placed on a bureau in the room.

Our room, which was an upgrade on the 6th floor of the beachside or east tower, and faced south, was over 400 sq. ft., with ocean view from the south facing windows, had a sizable balcony facing street side with city views looking to the west, but with ocean views when sitting on the south side of the balcony. Two rattan like armless chairs and small table are provided for enjoying the views. The bed and linens were comfortable, the case goods were in decent, matching condition. The bathroom had a nice marbled shower area and flooring. The sink area was small, and required my wife to put her cosmetics, etc. on the round glass top dining table in the room. The shower leaked at the glass door edges due to the design (we had the same problem at a Hilton in Florence, Italy), and soaked the bathmat. The bathroom towels and provided bathrobes were of good quality. Our stocked mini-fridge had a freezer section that had not been defrosted for months, but probably wasn't essential anyway. The space to put our own water, beverages, was very tiny.

Features: The hotel lobby is on the ground floor of the ocean side tower, and taxi/private car drop-off is directly in front and guest parking garage adjacent (parking is expensive @ $35/day). The check-in area has concierge service, complimentary daily papers and local magazines. The ground floor of the hotel also has its own third party vendor, cuban themed bar and gourmet restaurant (De Rodriguez) on the ground floor, and another upscale third party Italian restaurant is located on the ground floor under the street side tower, accessible only from the street. The ground floor Cuban restaurant serves as a hotel breakfast and cocktail area with seating inside and outside next to the pool and the southside hotel drop-off area. The hotel has an outdoor, ground level heated pool on the east side of the ocean facing tower, with complimentary padded and towel covered lounge chairs, outdoor cash bar area, nearby restrooms, and four adjacent elevated, privacy curtained, padded and pillowed couple seating areas. Butler service is available for these areas, charges can be signed to the hotel room. This area is accessible from the beach by the room plastic card controlled gate. Privacy hedges keep the entire area closed off from the beachside. The sandy beach has its own padded, toweled lounge chairs, most with umbrellas, and several cabanas with lounge chairs, plus a kiddy area of built up sand walls. The beach front area is run by a third party vendor, and there is a daily charge for use of the facilities as follows: $10 lounge chairs; $10 umbrellas; $20 cabanas. The vendor will allow users to break a couple hours for lunch and reclaim their space, if told beforehand. There is hotel butler service for beverages from the beach, which can be signed to your hotel room.

Staff: The hotel has a well trained group of porters/door people, housekeepers, bar and restaurant personnel, check-in and concierge staff, and pool/beach butlers. Every one we dealt with throughout our stay was uniformly helpful and pleasant. The fact that we were staying on points made no difference.

Overall recommendation: The stay was a first class experience for us. The upgraded room (points award only guarantees a city view, 300 sq. ft room). The full breakfast was also comp'd daily for us (we are gold Hilton members), and the food and selection was more than satisfactory. We dined in the Cuban restaurant one evening, and our excellent server Laura, gave us very good main course and dessert recommendations (paella and cuartro leche flan). The hotel provided two complimentary mojito coupons for the bar, which was small, but acceptable. The housekeeping staff made up our room in the early afternoon each day, based on our requested time ranges. The porter we had, Lazaro, was very responsive on both arrival and departure. Our pool butlers, Jesus and Brianna, were very friendly and responsive. Staff responsiveness really depends on two things: training, for which the general manager John Lacle, deserves kudos, and the way the guest interacts with the staff. We tried to be pleasant to all the staff and tip on the generous side, and this was reciprocated fully.

If one were staying at this hotel on a paying basis, you will pay no less than $400/night for a room in season, and that price goes up on the week-ends and for larger, ocean view rooms. For us, staying on points, and paying only for evening meals, bar and beach facilities and service, it was a bargain. We would go back, as they say, in a New York minute! Thanks to everyone at the Hilton Bentley for making our stay memorable.

Room Tip: Always ask for an ocean view room, in the beach side east tower, if possible. Best if request made directly to the hotel before arriving. Hilton point status may afford additional privileges.

Dear Guest,

Thank you kindly for your highly detailed and objective review of the Hilton Bentley. I am especially pleased to learn our team took great care of you during your visit. I have shared your feedback with the team members mentioned. We very much look forward to welcoming you back to South Beach soon.

Reviewers: The Hilton Bentley (like the great majority of hotels on Miami Beach) is a condo-hotel. Being a condo-hotel has no relevance to the resort experience our guests receive.

Best regards, John Laclé – General Manager

Having stayed at a number of hotels in South Beach over the past few years I've come to expect the hotels there to be rather tired and dated with mediocre staff and amenities. The Hilton Bentley, however, was excellent and surpassed all my expectations. The staff were exceptionally friendly and always happy to help while the room we stayed in was fantastic - good size, very clean, comfortable bedding and an effective air conditioner (which is actually hard to come by in Miami). Breakfasts in the restaurant were amazing (extensive selection and of good quality) while the gym facilities are far better than many other hotels I've stayed at. Overall a great experience so will definitely be staying again on my next visit.

Room Tip: If given the choice to upgrade to a 'full' breakfast then consider taking it as the food selection is far greater and the price difference insignificant.

Amazing place in Miami Beach. I love this place. A little bit expensive but you know what you pay for. Friendly staff. Amazing food in Cuban restaurant. Nice and cozy rooms. Oceanview is amazing. I always stay there when in Miami Beach. Nice garden with a cozy swimming pool. Good drinks. You feel very welcome. As a Hilton Gold or Diamond member you are welcome with a letter from the manager and a bottle of very good red wine. You feel appreciated and welcomed. Highly recommended. Good job !!

We had a truly wonderful stay at the Bentley. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The pool area was immaculate with ample pool side furniture. Beach facilities were really good as well and the staff there were friendly and effecient. Both the concierge staff and the front desk staff were helpful and made some graet suggestions that made our stay very very enjoyable. I visit Miami annually and next time will also be taking our children.

I had a wonderful stay at the Bentley. This a hotel where I stayed a few times and I like to come back when rooms are not too expensive. I was very lucky this time and was upgraded to one of their West Tower rooms. My room was large and felt brand new with a very nice balcony. The service is outstanding and very attentive. Don't need to say much about the location, this is just perfect, right on the beach and so close to all the fun places.
