The Standard was a lovely place to stay, the hotel is very clean and has a very natural feel about it. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was delish! Although it is nice to go out and explore, you could happily spend a long weekend without leaving the hotel. There is a really nice pool that is right on the water, great restaurant, huge spa area, juice bar, breakfast area, etc. if you want to explore Miami you can borrow bikes from the hotel. You are walking distance to Lincoln road and lots of restaurants and shops. Great place to stay, and more laid back than most of Miami.

This hotel is prefect for coupels who like good food and a relaxing time. The hotel was the first stop on our honeymoon and what a start! The rooms are small but with charm and great design. The pool area is the best part with great pool, music and drinks. The staff is very helpful and attentiv. The hotel dosn´t allow kids to stay there (just in the restaurant) but dogs are welcome witch was prefect for us. We give the standrad our best recommandations! Hope you have great stay!

Room Tip: Get on the second floor, which allow for more privacy.

My husband and I came for our honeymoon in december 2013 because we saw amazing pictures of the hotel and we loved the idea that it was away from the touristy part of South Beach.

When I sent an email prior to our arrival to tell them it was our honeymoon and I was pregnant we received back a list of prices for the most elevated rooms of the hotels. Of course no amenities of any kind waited for us in our room when we arrived...

The food and service were poor. Houskeeping was never completely done. A shame for the pick period price we paid!

It is a shame because the location and spa definitely make this place a special one. It just requires some extra work.

This isn't my father's Spa in Baden Baden or Abano Terme. This is the Spa of Tomorrow. It attracts a laid back young crowd. It offers an uber extensive spa menu, some of which is free for hotel guests, like the different parts of the Hammam or the Hydro therapy by the pool. There's also that free mud body mask I didn't have time for. Of the other treatments provided, I had the best Reflexology ever, which says something since I've lived 8 years in Southeast Asia and have had them in Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia. I also had 2 not 1 awesome needle acupuncture sessions. Add to that a Private hypno coaching session, Thai massage and a "foot worship" Pedicure. My father's spas don't offer such a broad spectrum of treatments... and you don't hear music when your head is under water in the pool! at the Standard you do! Finally, the food and juice. The Menu features many terrific vegan options and there's also a juice bar which serves cold press juices. There is enough variety between the restaurant and the bar to make you want to have a cleanse during your stay. For a full Juice Cleanse (Fast/Detox), the Spa offers a nutritionally complete program comprising shots & 16 ounce juice meals. One last thing the service is exceptional. We absolutely adore them all!

Room Tip: Get a Room with Bath Tub. Borrow a lounger to be more comfortable in your private space (see my phot...

For those who go to Miami and willing to stay relaxedly not far away from crowded spots of Miami beach. This place is so delicious and idilliac that you won't miss them. With rooms only at ground or first floor (far distant from the megabuildings on the coast) the atmosphere here is simply paradisiac. But, on top, the crowd of the hotel! Mature people who have seen the world and have quite enough of it. A family with worldwide connections who meet at The Standard Miami and stay happy with its.... simplicity. They prefer to stay hidden in their corner and enjoy life as it is with a touch of glamour. Food is nice and pays attention to each diet. Smiling and professional waiters are part of the family. SPA service always available. What do you want more? A bigger room? Who cares? My friends are waiting for me at the pool!

We were looking forward to enjoying a five-day stay at this hotel given our past positive experiences staying at the Standard NY and LA hotels.

To start, I was instructed how to walk to my room by their staff - which had me walking down an empty tree "garden" and through a creepy pitch-black long hallway (!) to arrive at the room - a Bath Terrace Medium room with a bathtub located outside. My spouse had gone ahead with the bellstaff to bring our bags. Here is where excitement turned to disappointment and what made us flee the property post-haste. This room should be called a cell and would be a claustrophobic's worst nightmare. The postage stamp-sized room sorely lacked the following:

A closet that fits more than two hangers. American Girl dolls would be challenged to fit their clothes in the cubby they provide their guests.

Nightstands or counters. Besides the fact the cell had no space for two people to turn around in place without bumping into a wall,
there was nowhere to set down anything. There was a flimsy plastic table that was hung off the wall to use at your peril. So, the bed and a dirty Ikea futon that is crammed next to the door is your everything. Minimalism in design does not mean lack of basic necessities.

Privacy.
This hotel seems to tout their relaxing environment, but in the first 20 minutes we realized that relaxation would not be possible given that the paper-thin walls and windows let in every. single. noise. The reservations staff confirmed that our room had a private outdoor space. In reality, it is a grass patch separated by bedsheets tied to a clothesline. Your neighbors are right there smack next to you on either side. Oh, and that's where your tub is as well. No privacy whatsoever. We asked before we made the reservation if this would be a quiet room and we were told yes by their reservationist at the hotel. The thisclose neighbors behind the "chic" hanging sheets could be heard word-for-word. We thought the windows were open! Not so. As we were also traveling with a pet, we knew that our dog would likely bark because of every little sound coming from the thin walls separating the rooms. Thankful we didn't hang around to hear the errgh, night soundtrack.

Space.
The online information is deceiving. When we called to ask questions about the room, we were told it was a nice accomodation and to look at the non-bathtub having room of the same type online for more information. You cannot have more than one person walk around the room at a time without bumping into each other. And yet, jamming a dirty futon into the room seemed like a great idea. In addition to making clear how small the room is, they should clearly emphasize the amazingly compact storage space. You should be told that you should not bring days worth of clothes that require removing them from your suitcase. If they would mentioned at least some of this on their property's website, it would have given us a chance to look elsewhere for a better experience.

All of this said, we left the property and had the fortune to stay with relatives nearby. We left our belongings - two carryon size suitcases, laptops and two totes - in the room.

We were charged for the full night stay, valet and pet fee, even though we left that shanty mess about as fast as the valet could get our car back (about 15 minutes). Unacceptable that they were unwilling to at least wave the $150 pet fee, especially for all of the inconvenience we experienced.

When we came back to our belongings the next morning, we talked to the manager on duty. After going around in circles, we were told that they would have to charge us as noted above, and would reverse the hold they placed on our card. We were given the lame "lifestyle" excuse as to why the hotel room did not meet our needs. I think "lifestyle" here must equal a sucker with low expectations.

We were by no means planning to live in our room, and we were looking forward enjoying ourselves and booking spa treatments, but couldn't stay in a tiny, cramped cell of a room for more than mere minutes. There are not enough spa treatments to have lulled me into forgetting how painfully lackluster those sad accomodations were.

Come to hang out in their smelly lobby restaurant, but you would be wise to check your room expectations at the cell door. In short, relax and don't do it.

P.S.: Later in the trip, we had a relaxing stay at the Four Seasons Miami for less than the total cost of a night of the (sub)Standard. Oh, and no pet fee, impeccable room service, free and fast valet at the Four Seasons Miami. I'd take that "lifestyle" anytime.

I was under the impression that I was going to a chic place. The standard is old, dingy, over priced and the service was the worst that i'd ever experienced (and i've traveled a lot all over the world).

Inside of the rooms and the garden are cute. The exterior is falling apart, dirty, super old fashion (think Brady Bunch) and just gross in some parts.

The strangest thing was that the people there (staff and guests) were all stuck up as if they were actually at a nice place worthy of such an attitude.

The service, price and facilities were grungy and bad. If that's what you're going for (over priced vintage grunge) then it might work for you. If you think the place is going to be upscale in any way whatsoever then pass and go to almost anywhere else instead.
