“Island Retreat in South Beach. ”
Reviewed December 8, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I stayed at the Standard Lido Spa in August for the first time. As an art consultant, I am always sensitive to the design and details of rooms and general areas. The effort put into preserving the original design of the hotel was incredible. Capturing and maintaining the integrity of the hotel's original design was obviously the intention. At every turn throughout the hotel, I was smiling at the thoughtful attention given to the period details. It's a time travel experience back to the heyday of Miami Beach. When we used the spa, I thought I was in a 1960's Bond movie. This was originally a spa retreat so while the rooms are not large rooms, they are designed well, utilizing the space creatively. This hotel is more about the outside and the spa. The rooms evoked the feeling of being at an exotic island. The grounds were lush and romantic, the pool is just incredible and feels like it seamlessly blends into the bay. The staff was professional and attentive, especially Jorge who is the restaurant manager. We were extremely pleased to discover the focus on healthy, organic and non processed offerings which made up the menu. My wife is a strict Vegan and Nutritional Counselor. Finding a restaurant in Miami that offers good vegan dishes is a challenge. The Lido Restaurant recognizes this and blesses vegans with a delicious living lasagna. We enjoyed the food so much that we returned to the restaurant a couple of days ago during Art Basel. Jorge remembered us and greeted us warmly. He remembered our vegan preference and sent us an incredible fresh vegetable sushi roll with a peanut dipping sauce. The wait staff exhibits the influence of a good manager. This oasis on the bay is now our number one hotel choice in Miami, away from all the crowds but still in South Beach.

This is the most fantastic and relaxing hotel I have stayed at in Miami. The staff are great and attentive and just the general feeling and atmosphere of the hotel is fantastic. The pool, the food and the complimentary spa.

Excellent care from all the staff. especially the manager "JOse Ignacio" greeted us like kings the hotel is spectacular, for resting is the best option. It is a unique hotel in Miami.
This Hotel has the most beautiful social areas. they have a unique decoration, and exclusive. the spa is unisex and it is really beautiful, starting from the shoop where you can find the best products.

Room Tip: Unique Hotel to relax, peace and Fun.

Back again for more spa treats and the unforgettable massage and scrub! This time we were well planned, stayed the whole day. Had a blissful time with friends, an awesome place to feel 'away' yet not far from home. Everything was great but the constant construction going on during the massage was a bit unsettling, if not for the great service we would probably be a little upset. Parking is bit of an issue, expensive and a long delay but we soon found out it is far cheaper to park at the garage on Prudy Ave, a walking distance from the hotel. Now the good stuff ... Standard Spa by far the best place to treat yourself and still feel casual, relaxed and almost at home, my husband treated me to a KISS package by sharing his massage therapist! I get massages all the time and the same package first time we were here but my husband was lucky enough to have Fonzly as his masseur, this time it was my turn! Let's just say it was awesome! A true definition of therapy and good fixin, perfect ending with a superb scrub!
I highly suggest a well prepared trip to The standard, park at the city garage! a short walk and splurge on spa treatments, on our next trip mani, pedi and facials!

After a week of meetings in NYC, The Standard was a perfect option. Very comfortable rooms, relaxed but efficient service and a great location make this an excellent option for business and holiday travellers. The bar and restaurant vibe make you feel like you're on holiday, even if you're not and the short walk to some great local restaurants make this hotel an option I'd be happy to take again. Concierge helped us organise a rental car we could walk to pick up and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: ground floor rooms have a curtained off patio and are a good size.

I was so torn about where to stay in Miami. I had stayed on Sth Beach previously and loved The Hotel of South Beach and liked elements of Le Meridian on Miami Beach but fancied a change, somewhere chilled out, on the water but not necessarily on 'the strip' I chose 2 nights at the standard and 1 at Soho beach House which I will review separately.

The Standard was simply fabulous in my opinion and their greatest asset is the staff who were courteous and friendly and downright fun to chat to from start to finish. My room was one of the basic ones but big enough for me and equipped very nicely although I do miss not having a bath at times but I knew it was just a shower so prepared for it. great linens, great comfy bed, fab wifi free and everywhere, even poolside. The pool by the way and the gardens, never mind the state of the art uber cool spa are les pieces des resistance at the standard. the food isn't cheap but it is high quality and nicely prepped and presented.

if it's an uber slick 5 star lux establishment that you are looking for where you need to dress for dinner and evokes a formal atmosphere then jog on....the Standard Miami isn't for you but if it's true relaxation with a great spa and wonderful therapists and great yoga teachers never mind a wonderful pool and cool attentive staff then book now and it's also great value for money.

I would return in a heartbeat

Room Tip: if you want a bath then select a room that specifies it has one! The garden rooms with their priva...

The Standard Miami is definitely a place where you get what you pay for.
the service from every employee working there is top notch.
the rooms are plain but comfortable, whats cool is that you have your own little patio in front of your room.
small bathrooms. good water pressure.
the ground are nice, very clean and safe.
the pool is very nice, there is also a hot tub with a waterfall and a cold bath which is really different.
did get to use the spa but heard it was very wonderful.

now to the expensive part...
after making some friends at the hotel they informed us that we should try and eat something at the hotel because there food was really good.
we decided to have breakfast at the hotel the following day.
$9 for a glass of orange juice? I'm from Toronto, $9 would buy you 3 jugs of orange juice!
the food is also ultra expensive.
once my wife saw that she said forget how good the food is, shes not paying $9 + tip for a glass of orange juice. lol

reason we stayed here is because it is very close, within walking distance to the excitement of south beach.
