I stayed at this place with my friend. We were a little shocked when we arrived as the place looked kind of run down. We were similarly shocked when we saw our room. Small and a little shabby. However, after a while the quirkiness of the place rubbed off on us.

The biggest shock about this place however was the pool. 5pm on a Sat night, people having sex in the pool. It was out of control and in no way discreet. Furthermore, when we complained to the staff the manager said there was nothing they could do. So we sat in the hot tub, drank and tried not to watch the people having sex. It was kind of disgusting and ruined the trip for me.

I would not stay here again.

This was our third visit to the hotel, after a few years staying at other South Beach hotels, and really enjoyed it again. The pool is great, with the best bit by far being no kids. Staff serving food & drinks are great - always around. Food and drinks were good poolside also.

Rooms were okay. Not fantastic, but then you're not supposed to be in them beyond sleeping. Only complaint is with a wet room you only have 1 chair outside, which is kinda daft. Needs an extra chair.

Would stay again for sure

I just need to inform y'all of a few things. First of all, let me say the few pictures that The Standard (Miami) has on their website are the MOST DECEIVING PICTURES EVER. This horrible was grungy from the moment we walked in. I was honestly stunned because seriously nothing besides the pool really matched up with this hotel. Our hotel room was also disgusting and very outdated. It's funny to me how they give you the illusion that they are a "modern, retro" hotel, when in reality they haven't updated a thing in the guest rooms. Our toilet had to be straight from 1970 and the tile was dirty and nasty. I don't think the people were that helpful at the hotel or spa. There were 2 towels in our room. I had to ask twice to have more sent up. We had to pay additional for parking as well. I also got stuck in the elevator. The spa wasn't that nice, so I didn't even book an appointment because I figured it'd be a waste. At $236/night, I expect more. I would never stay here again. Also, it's off the beaten path. You are near nothing sweet in terms of walking distance. I also bought an additonal night through Travel Zoo with this hotel. We aren't even going to redeem our Travel Zoo coupon because it was THAT BAD.

Room Tip: No tip, because the rooms are horrible and grungy/dirthy.

Dear Brooke D,
Thank you for your comments. I am saddened to hear that your stay was less than favorable. Our hotel architecture stems from Turkish bath houses and is simple and clean. I apologize that the look and service did not meet your expectations and I hope you will redeem your voucher as we are committed to providing the service that you deserve and expect.

I didn't know what to expect when I made a reservation and thought it was a mistake when the cab dropped me in front of what looked an old outdated motel-like "resort".

Once inside, I was met by very friendly staff and was accommodated in my request for a room. Because of the weather, I spent most of my time indoors, but it was a nice, relaxing time for me. The spa was great with the hammam, steam room, etc. The food was a bit pricey but tasty.

I stayed only 2 nights but plan to return each year. In fact, I just recently purchased a groupon to return before the end of the year.

Miami is a great city with many hotels. The Standard is in a class by itself. I found the staff very attentive and amicable. Everyone seemed to greet you with a smile and a hello at every turn (which I really liked) poolside service was also great. Vanessa was very sweet and seemed to have a good sense of everyone's need and you never waited too long for her to get to you(with a smile) I always ask a lot of questions and everyone was helpful and jovial. one morning i wanted to purchase something before the bar was open. I asked if i could pay now and pick up the change later as I was i tent on heading back to my room. Naturally, i forget to go back. The following day I'm poolside going in and out of thew hot tub waterfall. The same gentleman comes up to me with my change. my first response was 'i didn't order anything" he then reminded me of the previous day and I was very impressed. The front desk staff was always friendly and very helpful and quick to take care of anything you asked for.
There is a sense of tranquility that the staff seems intent on preserving. They explain all the spa services very well (I almost did the full body mud) If you are looking for a vegas style vacation, this is not the place. if your priority is classy comfort, beautiful visuals and spa-style relaxation, this place is for you. I can't wait to head back.

Room Tip: I preferred the bungalows that were close to the pool.

My two kids(19 & 22) and I stayed at the Standard for just 1 night but we had a great time. The spa services (a 99$ p[lus tax and tip special massage plus rub and scrub ) was excellent. I had Kevin and he really knew what he was doing. We enjoyed the pool as well. The gym was also well equipped unlike most other hotel gyms and the 7:30 am sunrise (outdoor on the dock) yoga class (90 minutes)was challenging but extremely well supervised. It was a bit out of the way in terms of South Beach for nightlife and the ocean (hotel is on the bay)and our room was a bit small and dingy but if you like great spa amenities this more than made up for the downside. I would go back and stay longer.

We booked a two night stay through Travelzoo. It included an upgraded room, two breakfasts for two and $150 spa credit. The not included $12.95 per day resort fee was specified in the ad. When we arrived, we were hit with a $37 per day parking fee and valet parking was the only choice. We understand that there is usually a charge for parking but we have never paid this much anywhere.

We were shown to our "upgraded room." It was small and spartan. The bed was comfortable but there was not even a night stand. The room was clean but it did not appear to have been updated since the place was built with the exception of a fan and TV. There was wireless internet access provided as part of the resort fee. The bathroom was ancient. There was not bathtub, only a shower and it was hard to figure out how to regulate water temperature. The room was a disappointment. We did have to request wash and face towels.

We found the service in the hotel to be generally good. Staff was pleasant. There was a 20% gratuity added to everything. We generally give at least that, but we prefer having the choice.

The spa was good. We each went for a massage. It was exquisite. The atmosphere in the massage room was wonderful. It was pricey, about three times what we are used to paying and again there was a 20% gratuity added. But, I have to say that it was almost worth it!

The breakfasts included in the package turned out to be continental breakfasts. They were good and there was enough food. The standard breakfast fare on the menu was very expensive. We had one dinner at the outdoor restaurant. It could not have been a more gorgeous view. The service was very good. The food was good, the portions were decent and everything was ala carte. The menu was not huge, but there were enough choices. Dinner for two with one shared salad, two entrees, a beer, a large bottle of sparkling water and of course the 20% gratuity was $100.

The grounds are very nice and the infinity pool is spectacular.

The clientel was mostly young and fit, the opposite of us! It was a bit noisy when we were ready to go to sleep.

The Standard is within about 30 minutes walking distance from the Lincoln Avenue Mall and within easy driving distance of South Beach.

The Travelzoo deal was good value, but it just was not our kind of place. We would have rather had nicer rooms and maybe not as many of the amenities.
