Our family recently stayed at Loews Miami Beach for two nights prior to a cruise and had a fabulous time. We had balcony rooms overlooking the pool and ocean, and the view was fantastic. The rooms were not huge but they were nicely decorated and the balcony helped to make them feel slightly larger. My young teenagers were treated very well by all the staff and they thoroughly enjoyed the heated swimming pool that was open 24 hours a day. Although the hotel was quite expensive, we really enjoyed our stay and would consider staying there again.

Beware the "plus plus plus" syndrome, even with a $500.00 room -- internet extra, fitness center extra, automatic 18% gratuity plus 3 taxes, fitness "classes" one per day, They nick you at every turn. When we had to change rooms because Animal House was next door, they tried to charge us $30. more for the new room than their own listing on the internet. Hotel food is okay, except for Emeril's restaurant which is really terrible. When we asked concierge for seafood recommendation, he recommended hotel restaurant when very good Grillfish is a block away. etc etc. Great location, elegant old hotel, cheezy beneath the surface. Buyer beware.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in March. My husband had a conference there so my 9 month old baby and I joined him. None of us had spent much time in Miami so we didn't really know what to expect. We were overall satisfied with the Loews, but didn't like the big city feel of Miami Beach as a whole and would not return.

Good things about the Loews:
-Service is excellent. Upon check in we were warmly greeted. Our bellman, Billy, escorted us to our room in the main building. The room was very nicely decorated but TINY for the three of us plus all the baby gear. Billy was nice enough to call and get us moved over to the adjoining St. Moritz building where the room was a lot bigger. It also had a huge bathroom where we put the baby crib.
-The lady who checked us in waived the fee for the fridge since we had a baby.
We had a wonderful waitress, Viviana, in the sushi bar. She was so helpful and nice.
-Location is good. Its right on the beach. It was a $40 cab ride from the airport. There is a Walgreen's right next door if you need anything.
-The hotel was very family friendly in the midst of South Beach, which to me was not a family oriented place.
-There is a Hertz rental car desk in the lobby. We rented a car there to drive to Key West.
-Since we had our baby with us, we didn't venture out that far for dining. We did eat several times at the hotel restaurants for dinner. You can sit in pretty much any of the dining areas and order from all of the menus (Sushi and American Food). Although the atmosphere is kind of boring compared to the ultra modern chic hotels that are nearby, the food was really good. Also if you like good margaritas, try the Agave.

Not so good things-
-By the weekend this place was PACKED. Granted it was spring break and the weekend but good luck getting a chair at the pool. And the Loews area at the beach charges $20 a chair. When we walked by other big hotels on the beach they seemed empty, I guess everyone was at the Loews.
-They play loud, awful Muzak in the lobby and by the pool. Irritating, American Idol reject type music 24/7.
-We did not have a good dining experience at Emeril's. The (lunch) food was delicious, but the service was not what we'd experienced at other Emeril's locations where the service was top notch. We only went once.
-Over the weekend when the hotel filled up there was a lot of noise during the night. Doors slamming, people being loud, it was very annoying. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything.

We did walk over to the very deserted/quiet Ritz Carlton which is very close to the hotel. They have a very good restaurant called the Del Lido which faces the ocean. Beautiful setting for lunch or dinner. We thought the food was excellent and the service was very, very good. We were treated so well even though we were not staying at the hotel. I think they were happy for the business!

If you are driving to Key West, the drive takes about 3.5 hours--this was on a Sunday w/o any traffic. We rented our car at the Loews and turned it in at the Key West airport. On the drive down make sure to stop at The Wharf restaurant in Summerland Key. It was outstanding! Overall we thought Key West was nothing more than a cruise ship stop tourist trap w/ a party atmosphere--but that's another review! We stayed at Casa Marina then moved to the Westin.

The following info is for people traveling with babies. This was our first time flying with our 9 month old for a trip.
-We checked our car seat. Delta does NOT charge to check your car seat.
-Delta does not count a diaper bag as carry on luggage for the parents.
-Used our big stroller in the airport and gate checked it on the plane.
-TSA website lets you know what you can bring on plane as far as liquids. You can bring bottles, just let them know.
-We installed our car seat in the cab from the Miami airport to the hotel, then walked everywhere once we got to the hotel. Then installed the car seat in the rental car for the drive to Key West. Didn't need a car in Key West. Put car seat in cab for ride to Key West airport. We think this worked out well but wrestling the car seat in and out can be tricky.
-Called ahead and reserved a crib from Loews. Baby slept fine in it. Also reserved fridge.
-They have swimmy diaper covers for the pool. Not sure it really worked.
-Again, Walgreen's VERY close to hotel if you forgot or need anything! They had some baby food and the obvious diapers, etc.

I hope this review was helpful.

I stayed at this hotel with my family this past February and will not return for several reasons. When we arrived at the hotel, on time as planned, we were told our room was not ready and to come back to the front desk in an hour. We had just gotten off the plane, waited at baggage claim at MIA for an hour and were really tired. We went to the pool to get some sun, only to find that there were no pool lounge chairs available and the ones that were not occupied by people had towels thrown on them and someones shoes left underneath. We went to the outdoor cafe to eat. When we finally got to the room, we discovered that the sliding bathroom door was broken; it did not close at all. My mom signed up for Loew's preferred customer club so we could get free Wi - Fi, but found out upon arrival that we were "misinformed". They were smart to give it to us without too much of a fight. Another obnoxious fee customers are slapped with is the fitness center fee. They charge something like $10 per person per day to use their single level, averag size fitness center. The good part of the hotel is the centralized south beach location (on a clean, beautiful beach) and the ice cream parlor in the lobby is fantastic. We went down for ice cream nightly.

I've been to Miami Beach several times but last summer (July 2009) was the first time I stayed at the Infamous Loews and I must say I wasn't impressed at all. The highlight of the hotel is the pool. On a scale of 1 - 10 the pool gets a 10! The rooms were a different story. For the price I paid I expected an amazing room and it was average at best. I've stayed at other hotels in Miami Beach who's rooms were a bit more modern and paid much less. Most of our stay we didn't have hot water which was a real turn off and the staff weren't as friendly as I'd expected. Again, the hotel itself isn't that bad but I believe you can get more bang for your buck at other hotels in this area.
