I went to loews last year and it was a fabulous stay, we spent most time at the beach, which is beautiful but the pool area was also nice. WATCHOUT!- the pictures that are advertised on this page of the orange sunbeds are in a private VIP area that you have to pay 800$ to access. For breakfast there is a starbucks which is overpriced, along with most things in the hotel, but in general it is in a great location and has a fantastic atmosphere!

Room tip: Rooms with balconies tend to be much more expensive, and they arent worth the spend

Wife and I stayed at Loews for only 2 nights before a cruise on Aug. 11th to 13th. What a wonderful experience. Our limo ride dropped us off at 1 am at Loews driveway and we weren't sure which way to go since there is major construction going on in and around the property. A Loews door man told us to head into St. Moritz to check in which is right next door. We were greeted by Jessie at the front desk who was very helpful. He told us that we got an upgrade to a room with a ocean view which was a great surprise. To get to our room we walked back outside from St. Moritz bldg and walked across to Loews Bldg which shares a common walkway, entered thru the side and into the hallway leading to the elevator. There is nothing to see inside Loews since the whole lobby and surrounding area is under construction. We saw signs saying that construction should be done Nov of 2016. Do not worry about the construction noise. It's only during the day. You'll sleep very soundly at night.

Our room was up on the 5th floor in the Loews bldg, room 558. The room is at the far end of the "L" shape bldg, towards the ocean, the elevators is in the center of the "L". Room have great full ocean view (not partial side view), pool below, South Beach walkway and beach and ocean beyond. Balcony have 2 metal chair and a small table. Room have a king size bed, arm chair (which need some cleaning) , glass top desk with lamp and 2 chair, glass top cabinet with drawers and table top 42(?) lcd tv, cable tv, closet with 2 comfy bath robes, safe, ironing board and even an umbrella, a hutch with small frig, keureg single serving coffee machine with Loews brand kcup of tea, decaf and regular coffee (which we did not have any because room service forgot to restock). By the way, don't try the decaf coffee, it tasted terrible! BLECH! I really doubt the regular coffee kcup is any better. The coffee/frig hutch right side door would not slide into it's pocket. That should be fixed. Room was very clean except for glass top night stand that had standing water under the telephone from previous guest and the dirt build up on the arm chair from guest resting their hands. No free news paper which some other hotels provide at no cost. As far as I can tell, Loews was cig. smoke free, which I loved. Even the room did not have any cig. smoke smelling residue.

Bath room is marble tiled and have a sliding frosted glass door to enter from the room. Frosted glass door looks nice but not practical. Frosted glass door do not close tight to keep all the bath room noise from reaching the room - showering and use of the toilet. It's almost like not having a door there. The frosted glass itself will let most of the light into the room. Something to think about in the middle of the night. You'll need to keep the light to a minimum or you'll wake others in the room. You could use the built-in lighted make-up mirror or just use the led night light under the sink cabinet to keep light to a minimum at night. There is no tub but a good size glass enclosed shower stall with marble walls and tiled floor. There is a slight mold problem on the ceiling right above the shower glass door, around the shower faucet and wall where the shower is mounted. Exhaust for the bathroom is very slow, maybe that's why there is a mold problem. The exhaust vent in the bathroom was full of dust which need to be cleaned. There was bar of soap, small bottle of shampoo and conditioner and lotion. I did not like their shampoo. It was hard to lather up to wash the hair. There is no retractable clothe line to hang wet bathing suits. Bath room had only 1 hook to hang towels and/or clothes.

Pool area was fantastic with lots of lounge chairs and umbrellas but will fill up fast. You'll be greeted by a pool host who will set up your lounge chair with a cloth cover for the lounge chair padding and set up the umbrella. There are other pool staff to help with your food and drink cravings. PLEASE TIP THE STAFF. My wife notice that hardly any one tip the pool staff who help set up the lounge chairs. Just because you're paying a pretty penny to stay here doesn't mean you don't have to tip the staff. One negative about the pool - pool closes at dusk, no night time swimming. For a Florida hotel with no night time swimming is very surprising. There is no life guard, so keep on eye on your own kids. There are free floaties and noodles for people to use and alligator inflatables ($). There were complimentary smoothie shots, ice cold water, etc.

Loews is right on South Beach! Very easy access, just walk thru the pool area, thru a beautiful walking path lined with trees and grass then you're right on the beach! Nice wide beach with plenty of hotel's lounge chairs and umbrellas ($). Atlantic ocean water temperature was like bath tub, nice but wasn't quite refreshingly cool, a bit on the warm side. Great waves. Loews have beach lounge chairs and umbrellas ($?) for use but at dusk Loews puts them away.

Loews is only 3 blocks from shopping district Lincoln Road Mall, which is pedestrian friendly. Lincoln Road Mall shopping stretches for about 8 blocks. It's full of restaurants and high fashion clothing and bunches of Starbucks. CVS and Walgreens is only 2 blocks away on Collins Ave and Lincoln Road. I recommend CVS to Walgreens. CVS had better prices and more selections. Both stores are open 24 hours.

If your looking for a great place to eat that's near by, I highly recommend Chalan on the Beach. They are on 16th and Washington Ave., only a block from Loews. Great Peruvian dishes. We went there for dinner around 8pm on a Friday night and the place was packed by 9pm. Great seafood and meat dishes. You won't regret it! For pizza, check out Pizza Bar. They are just up the block on Collin Ave. HUGE pizza slices at $6 for cheese and a bit more for toppings. These are the biggest slices I've ever seen. And it tasted pretty good.

The day we checked out of Loews to go to our cruise we got a taxi. I've heard there are set prices and no set prices for taxis from Miami Beach area hotels to the cruise terminal. Our taxi ride from Loews to the cruise terminal was charged via miles, not a set rate, which costed us $30 plus tip. Taxi driver said that there are no set prices between Miami hotels to the cruise terminal.

Our previous stay was at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Miami area which is very close to the cruise terminal, our taxi back then charged us a set rate of $27. He said that was a rate for Miami area hotels to cruise terminal. Which is false. I bet if they charge via the mile, it would have costed way less than $27 set price. In reality there is only a set rate between the cruise terminal and the airport at $27. There is NO set rate between cruise terminal or airport to area hotels. My guess is that taxi will charge you at what they can get the most out of you. So, travelling between cruise terminl and hotel - if your hotel is close to the cruise terminal, they'll charge you with the cruise terminal to airport set price of $27. If your hotel is further away they'll charge you regular by-the-mile fee. Which ever is greater.

One huge Loews negative - The Rum Line bar outside of St. Moritz. We got continental breakfast at the St Moritz and took our food outside to sit at The Rum Line. The Rum Line need some serious work. The wood benches and chair's finish were pealing and chair fabric padding were falling apart. Bird droppings were on some of the paddings. It may be used as a bar at night and no one would notice it's short coming because people are drunk or it's dark, but during the day for breakfast, it's very noticeably nasty and disgusting. This is not Loews standards but more to Howard Johnsons.

I hate it when people complain about the hotel cost in their reviews. They knew what they're paying before hand. We loved Loews and thought it was worth every penny. My wife and I were very happy with it and was very sorry to leave.

Please remember to tip the staff.

To hotel management - the only major issue that should be addressed is the mold problem in the bathroom of room 558. Lesser issues like no night time pool swimming would make people happy if there were swimming, at least up to 11 pm. And The Rum Line furniture should be looked at. It's very disgusting to sit on peeling wood finish and torn up chair pads covered with bird droppings.

Room tip: Ask for balcony with ocean view.

I loved my stay in the Loews Beach Hotel. You will be received promptly at the reception desk, have a very nicely decorated room and have a great location. The hotel has a boutique where you can find all sorts of clothing: swimwear, shoes, casual wear, eyewear and even makeup. Don't forget the beach. You have everything you need.

This Hotel is under major renovation at the moment but the noise of the workers was hardly noticeable in the room or down at the beach. It is very noisy at the pool but the staff's attentiveness more than makes up for the inconvenience. there are also inconvenient stairs to the temporary lobby which doesn't seem to be attached to the hotel tower rooms. some areas do not seem to be very accessible. though we were impressed to see the staff actually testing the pool lift which appeared to be in good working order should someone need to use it.
