Description: Bringing the best fried chicken and freshest farm ingredients from Florida and Georgia to the table since 2011, Yardbird has since garnered the praises of the James Beard Foundation as a semi-finalist for "Best New Restaurant South" and as one of Bon Appetit's "50 Best New Restaurants" in 2012. Yardbird sticks to the values of tradition, family, and community with a menu of "soul-nurturing" dishes intended for sharing. A warm, comforting environment lets guests feel relaxed and at home while dining at Yardbird. Southern touches add to the nostalgia, like antique candlestick holders, wildflowers on all the tables, and handmade light fixtures outfitted with Edison bulbs in Mason jars.

I used to visit for specific occasions or hosting friends and now I pretty much go any time I'm dying for Mama's chicken biscuits and 8Ball Stout. I could go on forever about all the other share plates and bourbon cocktails but it's redundant at this point. Excellent service, great vibe, cool décor and great southern comfort food. Let's not forget the brunch on Sundays that knock you out. As a concierge, this joint has saved my life many times when it comes to hitting home runs with out of town guests.

Thanks Again YB...killing it.!

Cheers

Made reservations for a Friday night (recommended) and here is my take...

Atmosphere: Modern, steam-punk/country style decor. Not a huge restaurant but the space is used well--which is to say, youre not sitting right on someone else. The bar area is good and displayed very well. Outdoor seating is fine and closed off from the road via hedges.

Service: Team-style and very well versed in the menu. Never had to ask for a refill on my water and a server was always within reach and ready to assist if I had a question. Perhaps the one "con" if any was the our main dishes werent brought out all at once (a couple minutes between each--there were 3 of us).

Food: We were told portion sizes were large, which was correct, but we didnt care. We wanted to tase as much as we could. Started off with Fried Green Tomato BLT, a creative spin on a classic (3 pieces so we each got one) and Atlantic Fried Oysters, while tasty were quite small (3 small pieces) and probably wouldnt do again. Entrees were Duck, Duck, Duck (beautifully prepared, creative and very tasty), Shrimp N' Grits (shrimp were fresh and not overcooked and the grits were ground so fine/well it was almost like a delicious mashed potato) and Chicken N' Watermelon N' Waffles (juicy chicken, not too greasy, with a wonderfully cooked "sweet" waffle--great syrup and spicy sauce on the side) with a side of the Whole Roasted Acorn Squash (delicious with just the right amount of blue cheese crust). For dessert we all shared the Lemon Buttermilk Cheese Pie (very good, like a light keylime pie).

Drinks: Known for its bourbon we did try the flight of homemade, infused bourbons (a nice array of taste) and we each had one of the home cocktails Old Confederate, Yardbird Old Fashioned and Southern Revival (all excellent and unique in its own respect).

All in all, the food was just as good, if not better, than expected. Service was on point. We would (and will) come back again!

We used Open Table to book the reservation and we were not disappointed. We picked this restaurant to have our anniversary dinner based on a good review from a friend and one from Thrillist. Please be aware that this is a sharing portions kind of meal which makes it difficult because there are so many great choices on the menu. We agreed on Llewellyn's Fried Chicken and chose grits, macaroni & cheese along with the buttermilk biscuits as our sides. Everything was great, but we were definitely impressed with the honey butter that came with the biscuits. Also, we're both not huge bourbon drinkers, so it's telling when we say that Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade and Southern Revival cocktails were a hit with us. Sharing a slice of the Mississippi Mud Pie was the perfect way to end our dinner. We'll definitely be on the lookout for Yardbird during our next trip to Miami.

Sat at the bar and had Matthew serve and entertain. Great job!! The restaurant and the staff both have a great personality. Had the Fried Chicken and it is the best. Also shared the House Cut Fries, Fried Green Tomatoes, and the Fried Mac & Cheese. Too full but the desserts going past were killer looking so shared the Lemon Chess Pie.....it was the best dessert I have ever had. You can never go to Miami and not eat here. I need to try Sunday brunch next!
