“Beware of construction”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2012

We stayed in Miami a couple years ago at the Palms' sister hotel (Circa 39), and we had lunch in the Palm's restaurant. We liked it so much, that when we came back to South Beach we decided to stay there.

The location is very good, it's a 15 minute walk from Lincoln Road and 20-25 minutes from the crazy-ness of Ocean Drive. Very peaceful, the beach is nice. Like the hotel very much; my only criticisms were that the bathroom is a little small and the WiFi is terribly flaky. Generally service was excellent - except the receptionist in the spa didn't book my treatment properly, and didn't seem to remember us after we had been in there only hours earlier. Honestly, she seemed a little hungover. The spa is small but quite nice and that staff are otherwise very professional.

However, beware of the construction taking place next door. It's very loud, to the point that you would not want to use the pool or beach areas of the hotel *at all* during the day. We were not told about this during check in. When I went back to ask about it, we were told it was on weekdays only from about 11am - 6pm. Well, in fact, it also was going on for several hours on the Saturday morning. Since we were there over a weekend, we had a day out on the Friday and managed to avoid it. However, having experienced the noise, if we had stayed during the week, I would've cancelled my booking and moved to a different hotel. It really is too much, you would not be able to enjoy the pool or the beach while that is ongoing. So beware.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the north side of the hotel, away from the construction noise

Dear Guest,

It’s a pleasure to hear that you have given us the opportunity to host you at both of our properties. Thank you for your great compliments shared about our staff and the serene environment The Palms portrays. I apologize for the unfortunate experience you encountered with one of our spa receptionists, as well as the construction disturbance from our neighboring property. Unfortunately, we do not have a schedule from the construction team which makes it very difficult to provide accurate information to our guests, as they are usually off on the weekends. I have addressed your comments to our Spa Director, but please don’t hesitate to contact me directly if you wish to discuss your concerns further, and thank you again for being such a loyal guest.

Best regards,

Overall, this was a huge disappointment. The service was laughable. The deafening construction noises completely ruined the spa experience. The front desk staff is incompetent.

I regret to hear that we did not meet your expectations during your recent stay with us. A true resort!

We absolutely loved every single thing about this hotel! The food, room, pool and beach! The feel of the hotel is very exotic. There was live music on the porch one night and we loved it. The walk into the heart of South Beach on the boardwalk is incredible and takes about 15 minutes.

We are booking our trip back to Miami and absolutely going to stay at The Palms Hotel and Spa again!

Can't say enough good things!

Room Tip: We had a city view, which was fine. The room itself, was beautiful! Next time though, I'll d...

Our four day stay at the Palms Hotel and Spa was more than we could have hoped for. The staff was always competent and courteous, and our stay felt like we were in a family setting. The beach, dining and spa were convenient and enticing. A well organized operation from front desk and concierge to the issuance of beach towels. A caring hotel. Highly recommend for quality and value. A great alternative to the larger and largely impersonal hotels. Construction next door was not a negative---it is not the hotel's fault.

Beautiful hotel. However I left jewelry and toiletries in my room when I left. 4 phone calls and 3 emails later I still haven't got my property back despite the hotel confirming they have it. My children made some of the jewellery for me so I'm feeling very let down given the" first class service" they promote.

The hotel is beautiful and ideally located 5 min cab ride from Lincoln road south beach. Because of the construction next door there is no relaxing and quiet time at the pool or the beach. The restaurant at the hotel is nice but very expensive as is everything in south beach. And the gratuity is always added to the bill where ever you goin south beach. Wether it's a party of one or any number. That said. South beach is fun. The hotel is great. Not a place for 13-17 year olds. Almost nothing to do unless u love to eat.

Room Tip: Try to get an ocean view room. It's quiet worth it even though there are no balconies.
