Great hotel, friendly staff, not bad a location about 20min walk to the main area of South Beach. Rooms are very small however the photos on the hotel website do reflect this. Decor very funky and modern I would definately stay here again.

Hi,

My wife and I were in miami for a friends wedding. We booked our trip last minute so there weren't that many hotels to choose from. We came along this hotel. Let me start by saying we are in our early thirties and been to South Beach a few times and stayed at the Palms and W hotel the last two time (Both hotels were sold out for our trip.) When we checked in there was no bellman to take our luggage in, which was ok i just brought it up the stairs myself. The lobby was ok it was modern but you can tell it was very cheap decorations, they were trying to hard. Charlie at the front desk was very nice and helpful. We got into our room right away which was right across from a hotel that was remodeling so we switched to a quieter room. The rooms were ok with very small TV's and the beds were comfortable, bathrooms very small you can only fit one person in at a time. The shades in the room for the windows looked like they went through a lawnmower they were so ripped up. The elevators in the hotel were so old they sounded like they were going to come crashing down. And every time I needed a taxi cab to go somewhere there was no one to be found, we had to walk across the street to the palms so they could get us one. And when they were there they were usually on there phone texting someone and when i said excuse me they would put it in there pocket. And I highly recommend new shirts for the employees all the logos on the back were fading looked very cheap. And the smell in the hallways was very musty and made it hard to breathe. When we were checking out the employee who brought out our luggage gave us our bags plus someone else's. I had to remind him twice that it wasn't ours because he was walking away from us in the main lobby. I don't care how cheap the room rate is to me its worth staying at a hotel thats nicer and has a staff thats more helpful for there guests.

it is a great place if you are on a budget. the front desk receptionist was nice she helped us hail a cab and get a reservation at gotham steak house. she was very insightful on what places to visit in terms of nightlight. the room was adequate we had a 2 double bed pool view room. we were 5 women and the room suited us fine. we had a decent walk in closet, fridge, safe and restroom with a line in the shower which was great for drying things privately. the room was clean and we did not have any issues while staying here except for with the elevators but that is hardly an issue. they take FOREVER to come up when you hail them.

Stayed 2 nights in late January 2013 before a cruise. The location was good for us, as we are not nightlife folks, and we enjoy more walking on the beach/boardwalk than shopping/clubbing at the busier south beach area.
The poor rating is because of the strong cigarette smell in our room (ash trays on night stands although everywhere there are signs "no smoking"), noise from the neighbouring rooms (ended up sleeping with ear plugs on) and the thick, dirty wall-to-wall carpet we had in our room. It could look great (gorgeous red colour!), but let's face it, wall-to-wall carpets do not suit for hotel rooms. They are so hard to keep clean. We didn't want to walk on bare feet in our room.
So if you have dust allergies, asthma or just get annoyed by smell of cigarettes, choose another place.
As this was not the first experience in Miami area hotels with smelly rooms and poor sound proofing, we did not even bother to complain about the carpet.
The staff was professional and very helpful, no complaints there.
The continental breakfast that was included in our reservation was a nice starter for the morning. I would go for proper breakfast/brunch somewhere else, though.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the back yard are quieter. Rooms facing the pool also face the busy street.

We stayed at Red for 4 nights in mid February 2013. Our stay was pretty much what you would expect for the price we paid. It is your average 3 star hotel, comfortable, but not extravagant. The pool was very nice, lobby and restaurant were very nice. Guests get a free continental or a discounted breakfast from the restaurant menu(nice touch).
The staff was somewhat indifferent ( Charlie was very nice, and helpful )
Overall the hotel was clean and well maintained, we did have trouble with our air conditioning though, we were moved into another room after 2 nights. Not a bad place for the nightly rate we paid

Room Tip: I would stay away from their petite queen room, its tiny, but reasonably priced

We stayed at this hotel fpr 4 nights in February 2013. " Days befoe we crtuised and 2 days afterwards. Stayed in a standard roon the foirst two nights and upgraged to Pool room after the cruise ( cost an extra 50 dollars per night to do so) ( which is mutch better than the standard room). You are also required to pay a resort tax for use of pool faciltes etc at 11 or 12 dollars per day, compulsary. Pool rooms are much better with little areas out side to sit at by the pool, not to private but fine and the pool area is quite pleasant. This is a quirkey strange little hotel, but so well priced, in this very expensive city.


Be aware that Miami Hotels and restaurants at South Beach are very very expensive( in fact everything is very expensive as a rule). This hotel however is well priced for Miami, it is in South Beach, collins Avenue, just a little bit out of the main drag at South Beach(Ocean Drive) and Lincoln Road ( shopping and cafe areas). The beach is only a few minutes walk away though sun beds etc are dear, but cheaper at this end of sough beach, the nearer you get to ocean drive the dearer they become. You can walk all the way along the boardwalk at the beach to ocean drive a good 20 minute walk will take you to the main areas. A taxi to mian areas is about 7or 8 dollars about £5 or £6 and are readily available. The Hotel has a nice little pool and loungers, the cafe off the main hall is fine and breackfast was aslo good enough. It is not particularly cheap of eat and drink there but not too bad especally for Miami. The decor is stark white and bright red, brash and blingy but clean and the staff are friendly and very helpful. Room furnishings are an aquired taste, but OK with flat screen TV's. You can bring in pizzas and your own wine and drinks to the rooms, they all have emply fridges in each room for you to use. White wine at the hotel was about 8 dollars a glass and red around 12 dollars, bottles of 1/2 litre water around 3.5 dollars, service and taxes is added to every thing you buy, so the price you originally see in never really the end price. There is an ice machine also with ice buckets in all rooms. The air con worked well, so that was good.

It is very much cheaper to have a nice late lunch rarher than dinner as many restaurants do lunch deals ) be aware of drinks prices at resturants expecially on Ocean Drive, we were caught out when we went into a restaurant and were offered a free glass of wine with our meal, which we did get, however they asked if we would like a drink whilst awaiting our meal, we ofcourse say yes and had a gin and tonic each, this cost us 40 dollars, we also had another glass of wine each which cost 24 dollars, also they add tax and then service charge to the bill. The bill for 2 pizzas, and one creme brulee and the above drinks was 140 dollars. Ocean Drive should however be experianced, it is busy crazy and a great way to people watch. Food is expensive but not excessive, its the drinks prices that push up the bill, so just be careful. Lincon Road is the shopping area with lots of outdoor cafe's and restaurants, also great place to wander and people watch (and boy where there some sites to see!).Another little area near lincoln Road which is to eat at is Espanola way, there is a great Italian restaurant there, food brilliant and set menu very good and reasonable.

We also went to the everglades and it was interesting, lots of tours on offer, make sure you barter and do not accept 1st price offered. ( we payed 35 $ instead of 55$). You can also do a day trip to the Bahamas, which I think would be great, but as we had just done aweeks cruise we didn't need to do this. There are also lots of other trips you can do also.

We enjoyed Miami and felt quite safe there.

Excellent place to stay for two night's prior to our cruise. We did the open top bus tour which left from opposite the hotel - great way of seeing the Miami sights. Accommodation was fine. Restaurant and bar service good. Reception could have had more staff at times but good information provided.
