“Wonderful location and great experience”
Reviewed May 1, 2012

My husband and I just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel after exchanging our timeshare, and we had an entirely enjoyable stay. The rainy weather not withstanding, our time at this small Hilton property was well spent.

The hotel is located on Ocean Drive between 14th and 15th street, directly across from the public beach and park. Location was spectacular - we could walk to the beach, shopping, dining, and nightlife, but it was far enough away from the truly "happening" section of Ocean that we could retire to our rooms and sleep peacefully if we chose to do so, without being bothered by street noise. Since this is one of the original Art Deco boutique hotels, there aren't many amenities to speak of, but they do disclose that quite frankly on the website. The lobby is cute, with a front desk, coffee bar, and computer nook. There is a roof-deck and hot-tub on top of each building (the hotel is 2 small buildings next to each other), and there is also a very small gym, and laundry facilities. No restaurant or pool, but being across the street from the beach and offering a limited room service menu, this really wasn't an issue.

We stayed in a 1-bedroom suite, which was a really nice size for 2 people (it can sleep 4, but it would've been a bit crowded). There's a full kitchen, a breakfast bar, a living area, a separate bedroom, and a large bathroom in about 600sf. The rooms are done up nicely with Art Deco inspired decor, and everything was clean. Note that there are only 3 rooms in the Ocean Plaza building (not sure how many in the other building) that face the street. So, even though it's across from the ocean, most rooms have no view. One complaint - the bed frame was ridiculously wobbly, and every time you so much as rolled over, the whole bed shook. The bedding was comfortable, but it would've been better had it not moved so much.

Check in and check out were both timely, pleasant, and hassle free. When we checked in, they put us in the wrong room, but realized and rectified the problem before we got in the elevator. Everyone was very nice and treated us well. My only complaint would be that there was no housekeeping included in the stay. I understand not cleaning every day, but maybe every other day? And, if you wanted housekeeping, it was $30, which I thought was outrageous.

The front porch and roof deck were both small but comfortable places to people watch or sunbathe. The hot tub was clean and very hot, and the gym was well air-conditioned and neat. This hotel was everything we needed with nothing more, and was a great choice for a long weekend in Miami Beach.

Our first stay at this hotel and can recomend without hesitation. Yes it is not grand but is clean ample size rooms and had everything we needed and steps away from the action on South Beach. A laundry on top floor is a bonus for anyone with youngsters. With an open area on the roof to catch the sun ? In reality this is two hotels next to each other,we stayed in what was Ocean Plaza. The main reception is in the other hotel next door. You should not be put off by the looks from the outside. Our room was at the back and although we had no views it was very quiet.
Aleksander (yes with the K) was a great help, everything from taking our luggage,to PC problems ,restaraunts, where to go etc. He really does put himself out for all the guests and would like to believe the management realise this.We trust and hope he is still there when we return in August - we have booked to return.
My only niggles are that sometime it took a while for our car to appear, as we used the valet parking. Also the porch area at the front seemed to be used by all and sundry, believe the hotel managent should discourage this ! But these are minor issues as on balance this is agreat place to enjoy South Beach.
There is a huge choice of places to eat along Ocean Drive but we came to conclusion the menus where all much the same - fish, pasta and pizza. Maybe more choice at Espanola Way, just a ten minute walk inland and in particular the fish restaraunt at the top, also the tapas restaraunt at the far end. The best meal we had was at Bistro 555, about twenty minutes walk and not the cheapest,(and slightly more up market than the rest),but well worth it.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room ask for a room at the back - but then you will have no views. Your choice!

The hotel is located in the middle of the Art Deco historical district, next to a wide variety of restaurants, sites and activities. The staff is very friendly and helpfully, the rooms are spacious and very clean, kitchenette has all utensils with a large fridge.
Overall a great experience.
Our rom was located at the back end of the property by the delivery doors in te back alley and was noisy in the morning one day. Other rooms should be quieter.
One area for improvement is the bed, it was a double due to the smal proportions of the bedroom.
The building was beautifully renovated and is very well kept.
I look forward to coming back!

If you are able to exchange your timeshare or book this hotel...DO IT!!! We arrrived late since we headed straight to Garcia's Seafood to visit our cousin....drank too much so we had to wait a while. Our room was ready as soon as we arrived...around 8pm cause we stopped at Whole Foods on Alton rd. and 10th st to pick up snacks, cooked food, and bottled water. Valet parking is $35, which we took adavantage of since we didn't want to walk to find parking...it rained on and off this wknd. You call front desk and tell them your number and they'll have your car ready in 8-15 min...depends if there's a line. TAKE 15TH ST & TURN RIGHT TO OCEAN DR TO VALET NOT 14TH! YOU CAN'T DOUBLE PARK...NO PARKING BESIDE ANOTHER CAR SO START LOOKING AS SOON AS YOU SEE BLT, WHICH IS BEFORE THE HILTON. If we didn't visit family then we would not have rented a car.

Took us 2 min to get inside. Our room was 2101, right on the first floor in the building next door. We thought it would be nosy being the very 1st room next to elevator but it wasn't nosy at all. I think our building is on the quieter end...it's nosy btwn 11th-12th near the Palace Bar.

Some of the furniture is a little worn but everything was clean and tidy. It's more like a 1 bedrm apt. There's coffee for 1 use with sugars, creamer, and salt and pepper. Fridge was stocked with water, beer, wine, and sparkling wine. The closest convenience store had the same price as the our mini bar so we took advantage. Lots of drawers to store all your items in the room, TV stand in living rm, and bathroom undercounter. We unfolded couch and sofabed is comfortable. They have nice soap, shampoo & conditioner...which is free, we asked for more at front desk. If you stay less than 7 nights then you have to pay $30 extra for housekeeping. We stayed 4 nights so we did it ourself. Beach towels are available at front desk for free to use. We asked for extra pillows cause they're too soft for us...we had 3 pillows when we arrived.

Coffee and Water is available at main lobby where you check in. There's a roof top area with a small hot tub and some lounge chairs...we checked it out but didn't use. Also, a washer and dryer on the same floor, 4th I think... There are comfortable chairs in the front porch area...we loved hanging out there to people watch! Beach is open until midnight but many left when sun was on the other side...I think sun rises on the beach side and sets behind our building. Water was chilly!

Walking distance to all the restaurants, shopping, and BEACH! Not too crowded this wknd...lots of Europeans. Ate at David's and Charlotte's Bakery for Breakfast. We could've eaten Lunch everyday at Jo's Takeaway (stonecrabs to die for) but they are pricey! Front Porch for brunch/lunch and bar area is awesome...check it out, on the left right past BLT! Ordered pizza by Starbucks (on the left across st), which was very good!

Will definitely return to this hilton if we can exchange our timeshare again....limited availability...prime location!

Room Tip: I guess you can call in advance if you want a certain location. We never took the elevator since w...

Having moved to Hilton GVC from a week in a dreary bedroom community condo in Weston, FL it was as if we had died and gone to heaven! As soon as we pulled up outside Alex from the front desk took our bags and gave advice on parking. We opted for the car park round the corner on I think the corner of 13th and Collins, $1 an hour then $20 dollars for 14 to 24 hours. We were actually early and Alex suggested we help ourselves to coffee and took us up to the small terrace with hot tub at the top of the Mcalpen building, offered freshen up facilities, use of the Business Centre and gave us the wi-fi code. I have to say his customer focus was second to none throughout our stay and he gave us all sorts of useful advice and local travel information.

Our apartment was beautiful, fully equipped with all mod cons, comfortable bed and nice touches like the towel fashioned into an elephant shape in the bathroom. No view but we are RCI and know not to expect one with the way the allocation works, just a narrow gap between us and the next building. During our week there was just one night when we were kept awake by very loud dance music, god knows where from, but then this is prime location at South Beach, the place to party!

So fantastic choice of restaurants, we liked Grillfish on the corner of Collins and Espanola Way, good food without gimickery or people trying to lure you in. We often went out to dine while people were still wandering round the streets in their swim clothes, anything goes in South Beach! I liked the fact we could go for a stroll along Ocean Drive after dinner and just soak up the atmosphere, people sharing fishbowl cocktails, expensive sports cars, classic american cars, live music.

It was not a surprise that although we had a late check out our bags were stored, all hotel facilities were available to us and we were bid a very warm farewell.

Highly recommended.

There really can't be a better value in Miami Beach than here. The rooms are huge suites with a kitchen, full-size refrigerator, & stocked bar. The location is ideal across the street from the beach and Starbucks (no rotten hotel coffee necessary). It is an historic Art Deco building (2 actually), that remains true to its original exterior and size. The building are small by today's standards, but the rooms are massive (without paying a massive price).

This hotel is not, however, a luxury resort. It feels more like your own apartment on the beach, with a friend at the front desk, great restaurants every few feet (BLT Steak next door), scenery galore, and your own maid service, too.

I travel for work, but I would also bring my family, with three kids under 11 here for a long weekend at the beach. The area is vibrant, fun, and feels very safe. Thankfully my work brings me here once a month so I'll definitely be back, as long as the price stays right.
