Our room was large and quite comfortable. The bathroom was a little dated, but it looks like they are all getting renovated. The rooms across the hall from ours were being redone. I was a little worried that the smell of paint and potentially construction noise would be a problem, but once in the room you could not tell.
The lobby is very elegant and the grounds are well kept and pretty with lots of spots to relax. Like all the hotels on the beach side there is a locked door that provides access to the beach and the boardwalk. The location is north of all the south beach action. It is a 10-20 minute walk to get to all the shops and restaurants. The entire way is wide sidewalks with pedestrian crossings, so it is easy.
We had the buffet breakfast and it was quite extensive and clearly catered to the international guests at the hotel. There were the usual eggs and fruit and pastries, but also all kinds of yogurts and meats, tomatoes, even brussel sprouts.
As noted earlier they were renovating rooms. While we were there one of the elevators was not working and there was often a line to use the one that was. We were only on the 3rd floor so we frequently took the stairs. The stairwells could use a coat of paint. They also had a huge water leak in our hallway. It must have been the sprinkler system, anyway the water was pouring out of the ceiling and the hall was flooded and we had to take a detour to get to our room. I was worried it would interfere with our stay, asked if we could move to another floor, was told the hotel was fully booked. As it turns out there was not a lot of noise from the workers dealing with the leak and there were no ill effects in our room. I guess all this is to say that the place is showing its age in a number of ways, but on the whole well worth a look. We got a good deal on price. I am not sure if I would have rated it as highly if we'd paid some of the higher prices I've seen online since.
