We went to the MBRS with four other couples, one of whom has stayed there for years. it's the old Doral. The north beach area of Miami beach is quieter and more spread out than in south beach and it's actually a few degrees chillier in March. The hotel has been redone in the public spaces and our room was freshly painted, good king bed, and a beautiful view of the ocean.
The staff were pleasant but not great on the followthrough. We arrived at 2 pm. Our room wasn't ready. My husband asked them to call us when it was. We got back to the hotel 2 hours later and our room was ready. No call was made. We rented a refrigerator, and when we were done with it, I asked them to take it away. It took 2 calls to get it done.
On the plus side, the pool is very nice. I see some complaints about the shaded pool. Every pool in Miami Beach will be shaded for a certain amount of time each day because of all the buildings blocking the sun. The pool was delightfully warm and inviting. And this hotel costs a LOT less than others in Miami Beach. A big selling point. If you walk down 41st St. there are plenty of stores and restaurants. I'd go again.
