“Fantastic Sunday Brunch!”
Reviewed June 9, 2012

My husband and I have brought friends here on two occasions from our holiday home in Delray Beach for the Sunday Brunch. We have not stayed at the hotel but can say the location is great, right on the beach. Both times, we have sat outdoors overlooking the pool with the beach beyond, people watching while enjoying a leisurely 4 hour brunch. The all inclusive price includes champagne, mimosa's, bloody mary's as well as port. This hotel offers a more extensive selection of menu items than the Ritz in Palm Beach, including fresh oysters, shrimp and crab claws. There is sushi and caviar, a fantastic breakfast buffet with omelet station & waffles, meats, cheeses, desserts - just too many items to list. It is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon with friends or family. The hotel lobby is huge and modern and there is a gift shop off the lobby with many nice items for purchase, including a good selection of "Ritz" merchandise.

This is an update from our 2009 review. Since our last visit it appears that the hotel has focused on improving the guest experience (which was great on our last visit). There seemed to be more and even better trained staff in all departments.

This was our first stay at the club level. The club provides breakfast, lunch, snacks, water, soda, juice, coffee, tea, beer, champagne, wine, cocktails, private concierge, and internet access with printing capabilities in a private, well-appointed room with beautiful views. Based on the cost of food and beverages at the Ritz and in South Beach, the higher rate of staying at the club level did not seem excessive. We really enjoyed the variety and quality of the food and beverages offered. We will definitely stay here again and most likely at the club level.

The masseuses at the Ritz spa consistently demonstrate a higher level of experience and competence compared to typical hotel spas.

Although over priced the quality of food is good. We found that the trek to get to our room was not quite up too five star standards as you have take two lifts and share space with staff and the dirty linen

Do yourself a favor and disregard all of the bad reviews on this site. We stayed here for 9 days in February and loved every minute. The rooms are spacious, the room service is decadent and the entertainment is unbeatable. The pool is clean and stacked with chairs for tanning. Also, service is almost always attentive. Walking distance to everything in south beach. Really the only hotel to stay at in South beach

Except for the rainy weather, my stay at the Ritz Carlton was all that I expected and more! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were exceptional. I would definitely recommend this hotel based on the friendliness of the staff alone!

We stay at RC's because of the level of detail, the level of service and the quality of the property. This RC is a mixed bag of "meh" with a limited number of high level qualities that are expected.

We stayed here over memorial day check in. We needed a room with a balcony. We wanted club level. We were there to relax and enjoy a weekend at the beach (note - we live in DOWNTOWN MIAMI, so we are locals on a staycation).

The Good: Location Location Location - right on Lincoln Road, walk the "boardwalk" to SoBe nightlife, right on the beach
The Bad: This seems to be an RC in Name and Price Only; Average $1000 per day, for what was a $100 per day experience
The Ugly: The "AirConditioner Farm/Nightclub/Employee Nap Area/Blunt smoking area" at hotel next door (Balconies at this RC are the worst experience ever)

The hotel:
- The hotel is part of Miami Beach History - built in the 1950s - there are just some aspects you cannot change (ilke the fact from the street and pool area, it looks more like a run of the mill cheap hotel than a ritz)
- The lobby is very nice and open, pleasingly cool. The doormen can be too busy sometimes to get a door for you - but it was a busy weekend. Checkin was quick and efficient.
- Once you leave the lobby, well - this is where I started feeling like i was in a Holiday Inn rather than an RC
-- Rooms are old, tired, run down and dated
-- Room amenities are also run down/dated and need to be replaced
-- In room cable is fuzzy on most channels, service freezes, most channels are not in HD
-- This one is VERY important: Walls and doors are as thin as tissue. Since the hotel was crowded, there was constant screaming yelling and partying from the other rooms at all hours of the day and night - even after front desk sent someone to stop the party at 2AM, they still continued. I did NOT pay $600+ per night for this, there is a level of decorum that is DEMANDED by RC Guests - and this hotel does not enforce that at all (I don't care if it was Urban Beach Week)
-- Towels were threadbare, loose weaves, strings hanging off them, dingy bathmats and a dirty trashcan.
-- Lotions/shampoos were not replaced consistently
-- Instead of replacing broken lightbulb in lamp in room (was flickering) the maid just turned off the lamp

The Balcony
- You have a choice of club room balcony - overlooking pool or overlooking partial ocean view away from pool). We chose the non-pool view because of the hotel being packed and the noise from the people (the pool doesn't ever really "close" so there is always noise)
--- MISTAKE NUMBER 1 - failed to tell us that non-pool balcony overlooked shady hotel next door where there were 72 AIR-CONDITIONING UNITS ON THE ROOF (I have pictures) do you know how LOUD 72 air-conditioning units are, running 24/7? It was impossible to sit on the balcony without having to shout at each other even though we were 2 feet apart. Disgusted with this (I know there is NOTHING that RC could do, but WARN THE PATRON next time?? I would have preferred to have had the CHOICE (i would have picked screaming-children-pool-view over this).
--- The notel that these club level balcony rooms (on north side of hotel) overlook is prop a 1-2 star hotel. The employees can constantly be seen on the roof of the hotel, napping in their black work suits, smoking and texting. There are also guests of the hotel that seem to use this area as their own personal party space (Ganja included). Once again - an informed guest is a happy guest - a surprise guest will go somewhere else next time and will NOT recommend the hotel to other guests)
-- Balcony was not cleaned, ever, during our stay

Bed
- The bed was tired, lumpy (mattress cover needs replacing big time)
- Pillows were as thin as a dishtowel
- bedframed squeaked with slightest movement

Noise
- you CANNOT escape the noise (the hotel next door, the street, the people in rooms along side you, people in the hall way, its just not soundproof at all

Bathroom
- do i really need a see through door on the toilet room?? and a see through wall into the toilet room from the shower?
- Towels need to be upgraded - falling apart
- shower water was hot and powerful
tiny little shelf in bathroom needs to be replaced with something that can actually hold the travel stuff people bring with them for the shower

Pool
- Antonia (The young woman running the kids club) is a saint. She is amazing at her job, engages the children and was just an amazing employee - and we didn't even have kids with us. That woman ran at the pool and beach all day (seemingly without a break) - she was a delight!! What an asset you have with her!
- Natalia (our server at the Day Bed on Sunday) was just a delight! Wish more servers were like her!!
- Danny - my umbrella man - you made our day so much better - thank you!!
- George - our chair man at the beach - thank you!

Pool & Beach warnings:
-- You will die of thirst on the beach before someone comes and takes your order. You will then wait another 15 minutes for a beer (which is now warm). Bring bottles of water with you from room
-- The umbrellas/chairs on the beach are far too close together. You will spend all day moving your chair because someone moved their umbrella which is now covering half of you, so you move, now you are messing with the person behind you's sun - never ends. So frustrating we went to pool (and no, chairs are NOT part of your $600+ per night room charge, even for club level peeps)
- Same umbrella logistics at pool (when you can find two chairs with umbrellas). Packed in like sardines. They also do not use the cool decking paint that would save peeps rom getting blisters
- don't wait for servers, go to bar and get drink (wear shoes)
- placement of bathroom so far away from pool area down slick hallway is an accident waiting to happen
- For Gods Sake - clean some of the cushions!! There are nasty biological-like stains on the back ottoman like beds - ewwwww

Club Level
- you get breakfast (good); light unch (decent); hors d'orves/booze and then sweets and booze for free. Bad part is, this RC allows young children to run a mock in this club room while parents sit oblivious sipping champagne. there seems to be NO other benefit to club level (even the club level concierge fubar'd our daybed reservation) You are not supposed to take food and drink out but we watched the parents of said screaming kids taking out a ton of food/drinks

Food -
- The blonde lady with the accent and pony tail who is a bartender at Lapidus is wonderful and very sweet - thank you!
- The restaurants we dined at on property were 3 star with 5 star prices. Food was bland and overcooked; service was ungodly slow (over an HOUR between appetizer and entree - at 10 at night with only 3 other parties in the entire restaurant??)

All in all - this was mostly a waste of a good vacation. We will be trying the other RCs in Coral Gables, Key Biscayne and FT Lauderdale on our next weekend breaks, but we will not be going back to this one unless there are no other hotels available.

Room Tip: balcony rooms are not worth it - you either have screaming at pool or the horrible north side air-co...

I put 4 stars only because of the price, but all of the rest: location, service, quality...is perfect! It's one of the best hotels i've visited!
