“Ocean Drive and the Edgewater, a good combo”

We selected the Edgewater Hotel based on reviews and it was the middle of the road pricing for a hotel on Ocean Drive. We had two rooms on the second floor that faced the atrium or patio and found both of them to be clean and comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Edward gave us good suggestions of places to visit and went a step further to look up the entrance fees and the hours it would be open. We enjoyed the breakfast on the roof top terrace as well as happy hour in the evening. One of the pluses for the Edgewater is that it is not located in the rather noisy area of Ocean Drive. We highly recommend the hotel and would stay there again.

I was a little apprehensive at first due to the rate... But upon arrival I was instantly and pleasantly amazed. My husband and I couldn't believe the space of the room not to mention the service was stellar and the hotel was extremely clean. It was almost too good to be true. However, from the beginning of our stay until the end there was not one thing to complain about. The hotel rate includes complimentary breakfast as well as a complimentary happy hour on the rooftop which gave us bragging rights over our friends who stayed at a different hotel. If you happen to visit this hotel please ask for Dale... He is awesome! After posting a picture on Instagram and tagging the hotel in the picture, the general manager of the hotel sent a complimentary bottle of champagne to our room which was such a kind gesture. In addition, my husband and I were to leave the hotel extremely early in the morning and the front desk scheduled a cab ride for us to the airport! In all, our entire stay went exceedingly well and we would not hesitate to visit this hotel for future travel to Miami and I highly recommend staying here. The hotel is in a great location, has great service, very modern accommodations, spotless, complimentary happy hour, free wi-fi, and complimentary breakfast, what more could you ask for!!!

The Edgewater is a nice hotel, in a great location, with an amazing staff. It's not the best hotel in South Beach, there is no pool, and there is currently no restaurant operating out of the hotel, but it is in a great location. You are right across the street from the ocean, in between the Front Porch Cafe and the News Cafe, and in strolling distance to great shopping and dining. The staff is what sets this place apart. They were by far the friendliest staff I have met in a log time. They were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was always clean. Sure, there are swankier places to stay, but the experience here was very satisfying.

I have nothing bad to say about this hotel. The price was fair and my room was very clean, spacious, and the staff were all friendly. I thought the resort fee wasn't terrible because it included wifi, breakfast, drinks during happy hour, and free rental beach chairs.

The staff also recommended good places to visit around the area that were not tourist traps. I could find something to complain about but I would feel bad given everything was beyond expectations for the price paid.

If you need or want a king sized bed, forget it. The web site says the One Room Ocean View Suite "Features a private sleeping room with King Size bed", but it's a queen sized bed. If you're 6'4" and your wife sleeps curled up on her side, that matters a lot. The staff were nice, everything was clean, the room was large, the price was good, Starbucks is a block away, etc. It should have been a great vacation, but nothing can make up for not being able to get a good night's sleep.
Other details you may or may not care about:
* Valet parking is $30/night. Just something to know in advance.
* The closet is gigantic. It's seriously almost as big as the bathroom.
* The shower doesn't have a door, so water gets everywhere. That's a pain.

Also, this is another example of why you should never book a hotel through a third party web site. We booked directly through the hotel's own web site, so we were able to check out one day early and go somewhere else without paying for that extra night. As I mentioned before, awesome (and multilingual) staff.

Four of us stayed at the Edgewater in July 2014, two couples in two rooms on the third floor. I saw the ranking on TripAdvisor and suggested it to my brother and his wife for our short get-a-way. The price seemed right and the location is terrific.

Two of the staff made positive impressions on us, Talisa and Edward. Talisa was often on the front desk, and she handled our check-in and check-out. Talisa was very friendly and most helpful. Edward served the happy hour on the 5th floor, and was also very friendly and offered recommendations for a local Cuban restaurant. The price for this hotel was probably a good deal for South Beach. The hotel offered a Florida Residents Special on its own website which included the $18 Resort fee and $30 Valet parking. I'm not sure why they would charge a resort fee, because this is certainly not a resort. I’ll come back to this later.

My brother's room (311) looked fresher, as though it might have been renovated recently. Our room (303) looked rather tired and drab by comparison. Our room had a worn out carpet, a damaged wall corner, a silly window shade, a cramped closet, and a creepy looking cabinet under the sink. Overall, I'd say the room looked pretty tired and dingy. Not bad if your friend is letting you use it for free, but not great if you’re paying over $200 a night for room and tax. Our bathroom had a missing bulb for all three nights (I saw it missing on the first night but house keeping missed it?!?!) and the bath tub had no stopper for the drain, so my wife could not enjoy a bath. The sheets on the bed smelled of bleach, but at least they were clean and the bed was firm so we slept well. The cabinet under the sink in the main room was awkward and looked kind of creepy, so even though it had doors opening to storage, we did not use it. The couch and the chair were low and tired looking. The in-room coffee was Maxwell House, the tap water tasted fine, so morning coffee made in the in-room machine was good. Even better was the coffee from the 5th floor Continental breakfast (served 7-10), which also had terrific croissants, bagels and cream cheese, toast, nice jarred jellies, butter, and cream cheese. It also offered juice, milk, yogurt, and prepacked cups of fruit. The room also was stocked with a decent mini-bar, bathrobes, sunscreen package, and scent box. They weren't cheap, but they were there if you wanted or needed them. The hallways on the 3rd floor also had stained and tired carpets.

For some reason I'd thought the Edgewater had a pool. Sadly, that was not the case. The hotel also ad neither a bar or a restaurant. No problem, every other hotel seemed to have them, so we just went elsewhere for food and drink. Every time we exited the elevator on the 1st floor we would see one or two large plastic laundry carts. They were not very attractive and I don’t know why they kept them where they did. There's an odd little desk and printer in the main hallway in front of the elevators, but we never used. WiFi in the room was OK, and the TV had plenty of channels. The sidewalk in front of the Edgewater along Ocean Drive was littered with turned-over tables that were not in use because there was no restaurant. Too bad about that, it made the place look abandoned.

If you’re headed to South Beach and you need to save every penny, and if this hotel has the best price, go for it. If on the other hand you are able to spend a little bit more money you might find a nicer place that has better looking rooms, a pool, a bar , and a restaurant. That’s the sort of hotel that I would be willing to pay a resort fee for, a one-stop-shop. A hotel that has no pool, no bar, and no restaurant, has no right to charge a resort fee.

Please accept our apologies for not measuring up to your expectations. We have missed on quite a few details during your stay and that is not acceptable. We have already addressed with the respective teams. The restaurant is unfortunately not under our control, it is leased out and the latest tenant has departed.
We are in the planning stages of a soft renovation which will address the hallway carpets, wallpaper, lighting improvements in all the rooms and many other items our guests have brought up since we have opened.

This hotel was amazing the rooms where lovely and WOW you could not get a better location. We had happy hour on the roof terrace every night which was so awesome the view and atmosphere up there were incredible. However the most outstanding thing about this hotel were the staff they were so friendly and helpful especially Dale, he made happy hour the highlight of our stay every evening.
Overall this hotel has everything, do yourself a favour and stay here you will not be disappointed.
