Gianni Versace's famed former South Beach mansion, now operated as a luxury hotel and restaurant by also-famed South Beach restaurateur Barton G, is a big splurge. The decor at this fantasy-filled Moroccan nights villa is justifiably worth the price of admission alone. That price is a steep one, be forewarned, rivaling any Michelin 3 star restaurant. Sadly, the food, while very good, does not match a Michelin 3 star. For a big splurge night though, it's a unique experience anyway. Just go with the proper culinary expectation, and it'll be a fun-filled night. Service can be hit or miss too regarding graciousness. Most staff is very warm, but others need to relearn the lesson that the customer is always right. We arrived 15 minutes in advance of our reservation, per the instructions of a telephone reservationist, in order to enjoy a pre-meal cocktail in the separate bar area. However, the first person to meet us advised us that the bar was not open and that the telephone reservationist had regrettably misinformed us. He then deposited us in an outside area, presumably to sit for 15 minutes. No offer even to bring us a drink there. Happily, within 5 minutes, a more senior staff came to our rescue and indeed escorted us promptly to the bar.
