Owner description: We are a small Garden, just 2.6 acres, with a very big mission! We call ourselves an urban oasis in the middle of the glitz and neon of South Beach, a place where locals and visitors can come and enjoy the numerous cultural and artisitic programs that the Garden has to offer. Created as a Miami Beach city park in 1962, the Garden was rejuvenated in the fall of 2011 with a $1.2 Million landscape renovation by acclaimed South Florida landscape architect Raymond Jungles. We invite you to discover the new features of the Garden – a wetland with red mangrove and pond apple trees, an expansive water garden with cascading oolite fountain, a welcoming entrance plaza, and diverse collection of flowering trees, palms, cycads, orchids, bromeliads and Florida native species.

“Refuge in a very hectic city”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

We read about this botanical garden in TA and were excited to visit. Certainly it has received criticism because of its size. I think that's an advantage. The Japanese have demonstrated the value of small gardens in a very crowded environment, and this park provides a wonderful oasis. The plants in this park were beautifully cared for, and we saw a number of varieties we were unfamiliar with. Finally, there are a number benches strategically located so you can enjoy a very small space or sit in the shade and view a large clearing surrounded with beautiful species. Wish I could spend time in this (free) garden every day.

We totally agree with you, Lone Star: we think our 2.6 acre size is a great asset and not a limitation. As you correctly point out, the Japanese specialize in small gardens in the middle of dense, urban settings and that is exactly what the Miami beach Botanical Garden has to offer residents and visitors from near and far - a beautiful refuge or oasis from the glitz and glamour of South Beach. We hope you found your way to our Japanese Garden, tucked away to the immediate left of the entrance and to the Florida Native Garden just beyond that. Thank you, as well, for commenting on the excellent condition of our plantings - we have a super horticulturalist and assistant who work hard at maintaining the Garden's quality six days a week, Tuesday through Sunday, from 9 am to 5 pm.

This place is amazing. The gardens are small but very beautiful. You can also have a picnic inside. The entrance is free. Really nice place for an outdoor small wedding.

Thank you so much, Carlina. for your 5-star rating! We think your review touches on many of the aspects that make our Garden a wonderful place for both local residents and out-of-town visitors to see. 1) We are FREE (no admission charge, ever) and we now have FREE WiFi! 2) The Garden, as you point out, is a wonderful place for a picnic - bring your own, or stop at nearby Lincoln Road for sandwiches & salads to take to the Garden (where we have a drink vending machine, water fountains & bathrooms availalbe) and use one of our many tables and chairs for your picnic - or sit oon the grass!. 3) The Garden is one of the most popular venues in Miami Beach for weddings, receptions, & parties of all kinds. See Diana, our special events person, for information and available dates. Of course, this package is all wrapped in a very special ribbon - the wonderful plants, palms, orchids & bromeliads for which South Florida is famous for. Come check us out soon!

“Lovely respite”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

I was killing time in the Miami Beach Convention area and just happened upon this little oasis. There is no charge to go through the small garden. There are orchids mounted in the trees, wonderful tropical plants that are well marked, a pond with a whimsical sculpture. Lovely place for a quick visit.

“A Lot in a small space”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

We walked through the Botanical Garden after closing time (5PM). It's only a couple of acres but they have many beautiful displays and interesting plants and ponds. Learned a lot about tropical plant life that I had never seen before. And there wasn't a fee! Very relaxing place to sit and rest.

Thank you so much for your kind - and, we think, accurate - review. You are exactly right: we have a lot in the small 2.6 acres allotted to us by the city of Miami Beach. Some visitors, unfortunately, just see this small size and can't see beyond it; others, such as yourself and many others Trip Advisor reviewers, see the wide array of botanical specimens, water elements, the Japanese native garden, edible gardens, and the Florida native garden and celebrate our Garden for what it is - an urban oasis and and educational & cultural platform in the middle of the glitz & glamour of 'America's Riviera'. Oh, let's not forget to mention that there is NO admission - and free WiFi!

Better to go to Pinecrest of Fairchild. This place is small! This review requires a 100 character minimum, so that is why this sentence is here.

Ouch! We think you are being a bit harsh here, and certainly mixing apples and oranges. We ARE small, and don't deny that we have only 2.6 acres allotted to us by the City of Miami Beach, but we have a BIG footprint in the Miami Beach educational and cultural scene that you have not yet tapped into. Please come back another day -- the entrance is free, unlike the other garden you reference where you will $20 per person - and check our web site in advance for special events and demonstrations that may be of interest to you. Note: this response is more than 100 characters, because we have so much more to offer than your review implied - just check our other glowing reviews from more sympathetic visitors..
