“Should not miss this one in South Beach”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

If you are interested in art and you happen to be in Miami, or in Miami Beach you should not miss this tour by Art Deco Tours. We found them on internet and unlike other touristic events we went to that disappointed us completely, Christine, our knowledgeable tour guide, made the two hours of our tour interesting not only for us adults but also for our teenager and pre-teen kids. With a combination of deep artistic knowledge and trivia (yes, now we know that Miami Vice really made a huge impact on South Beach) and quite a bit of marketing, Christine managed to keep our attention. Getting into hotels, not only at reception level but even to the rooftop swimming pool was quite unique. This tour proved us, that there is something more than beach, sun and water to this beautiful city.

“Detailed and Interesting Walking Tour”
Reviewed March 9, 2014

Today we took a very interesting, detailed Walking Tour of the South Beach Art Deco District operated by Art Deco Tours (Miami Art Deco) It was a two hour tour that covered a lot of history about South Beach and the Art Deco Buildings. We went into many hotels, and our Tour Guide Robert had many surprising facts for us. Robert was a wonderful guide and very knowledgeable about the colorful history and architecture of the area. Well worth your time and money

“Superb Tour”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

My wife and scattered kids were all in Miami for a wedding. We've been on similar tours all over the country. This was the best. Our tour guide (whose name unfortunately escapes me, but he was the heavily tattooed heavy metal guitarist guy) was both informative and fun, providing not only an excellent overview of art deco architecture, but plenty of juicy tidbits about South Beach/Miami history. He was also highly opinionated and amusing. I think I'll be able to spot "fecal deco" buildings years from now. If you're looking for a bland, just-the-facts approach, this isn't the tour for you. But if you're looking for a lively, informative, and fun two hours, I can offer no higher recommendation. Educational fun.

“Better than art deco center's audio tour”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

Our purpose in visiting Miami was too see Art Deco. I am glad that we decided to take this tour. As other reviewers have said, John was very enthusiastic and passionate about art deco. His stories were interesting and he made sure to teach you the basics (as another reviewer wrote, symmetry, the rule of 3, and embellishment), painlessly! Without his explanation about the terrazzo floors, I would never had known why they are impervious to salt water (thanks to goats milk), and would not have really appreciated their coloration and design (even when some hotels covered them with rugs). We visited the Astor, Palmer, Essex, Kent, Clevelander, York and maybe even another hotel. He had interesting information about each one, and it was obvious that the hotel staff welcomed him on a regular basis. There were only six of us in the group, and we were able to ask questions and chat about our homes and travels. The tour lasted over two hours, I think because we were all having such a good time. The pace is easy and there is plenty of time to sit and rest. The next day we took the Art Deco Center's audio tour. Surprisingly, there was hardly any overlap. The hotels they concentrated on were different. However, the insights that John brought and the cohesiveness of his presentation made this much more enjoyable than the audio tour.

“Symmetry, "The rule of 3" and Embellishment - Awesome tour!”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

I was in Miami for a week with 3 girlfriends, and we wanted a quick way to learn about, and see, the highlights of the Art Deco district - this tour was perfect for that! Our guide, John, was great fun and managed to give the tour a personal feel whilst sharing his vast knowledge on the area. We were really lucky in that we were the only ones on the tour, so I think that made the experience even better.
It was great to get to see inside some of the hotels we may have otherwise overlooked, and we loved being able to enjoy some of the roof top pool areas too....free cocktail in the last hotel was a nice touch!
The tour lasts about 2.5 hours, and is done at a really nice pace - don't worry if you think you will be trekking long distances, its comfortable and easy (just a tad warm - even in Feb!), just make sure you have comfy shoes on.
I love that the tour is run by a small company - they all clearly love the area, and it definitely gives it that personal touch! Would recommend it to anyone visiting South Beach! Thanks guys :-)
