Owner description: The Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU is the only Museum dedicated to telling the story of 250 years of Florida Jewish heritage, arts and culture. The museum is housed in two adjacent lovingly restored historic buildings, at 301 Washington Avenue on South Beach, that were once synagogues for Miami Beach's first Jewish congregation. The museum's focal point is its core exhibit, "MOSAIC: Jewish Life in Florida, 1763 to Present" and its temporary history and art exhibits that change periodically. A Collections and Research Center, several films, Timeline Wall of Jewish history, museum Store filled with unique items and Bessie's Bistro complete the experience for visitors of all ages and backgrounds. The museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.

we visited this wonderfully interesting museum created from 2 former synagogues and were given a guided tour by Howard which was both insightful and informative.. the background to the settling of the Jewish community here on South Beach and the anti-semitism they experienced was fascinating and the restoration and conversion of the synagogues has been done with care and class...many exhibitions on view and the short video played was excellent. not in the best of areas however that was historically why Jewish people settled there, it was cheap living.. the little local south beach bus will take you almost to the door so is very easy to reach either by bus or on foot and very well worth the visit

Two beautifully restored synagogues, now physically linked, house the Mosaic collection of Jewish Floridian memorabilia and documentation. The history, culture and contributions of Jews in Florida goes back to the 18th century and should be honored and respected, not ignored now that Southern Florida has become the destination of people from many cultures and nations. The Jewish Museum honors the past as well as showcases the artwork of current Jewish Florida artists. It's well worth a visit.

At the museum there is so much great historical information and interesting items from the Jewish culture over the years that they keep preserved there. If you are also interested in learning more about their faith they’re very courteous and open in explaining and addressing many different aspects of it. The museum was formerly one of the original synagogues in Miami Beach. Now refurbished it still keeps to date with its traditional architectural design in the interior as well as the exterior of the building. Tours are available and for me overall it was a wonderful experience.

This museum and former shul has a wealth of materials. Take the time to see it all. A guide will give you a free tour and explanation of Miami Beach's Jewish history, if you like. We happen to arrive on Saturday when entrance was free. Saturday? It was open? Strange, but true.
