“Take the Tour EARLY in Your Visit”
Reviewed January 28, 2014 via mobile

South Beach (and especially Ocean Dr) is brash, loud, and really fun. But if you have the slightest interest in the marvelous Art Deco architecture, take the tour through the Art Deco Welcome Center early in your visit. It gives you the vocabulary and concepts to understand and enjoy what you see. It is not only architecture but the social history of the area. And as a bonus , Kent gave us many leads on restaurants etc known only to the locals. The walk is well paced and seeks out shade at all stops. Take water.

“LOVE the shop”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

I come here to check out the attached store... what great finds! Vintage clothing, rare finds on nick nax, cool gadgets that you want but really don't need, cool retro posters and post cards. Great 'window shopping'. I just love this place! (Actually my profile picture was taken here with the goofy vintage sunglasses)

“very unpleasant experience”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

To begin with, the staff is very rude, and they're only willing to give you information on the tours they sell, but they wont tell you anything if you don't pay. A tourist will hardly get any information.

“A great facility, excellent for new visitors.”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

I did the self guided audio tour from the Art Deco Welcome Centre on Ocean Rd and it was fantastic. Only $15 (with a $20 refundable deposit for the MP3 player and headphones), it gives a great overview of the beginnings of the Art Deco movement in South Beach, and a good cross section of hotels and buildings of note in the movement.
It takes between 1 & 2 hours, moving at your own pace, and you can even stop entirely for a drink or lunch, to resume at your leisure.
A great idea, well executed, and worth investigating as an alternative to a group tour. I enjoyed it so much I forgot about the time, and returned 10 minutes after closing. Thankfully, the attendants were very gracious, which just added to my experience of Miami, one of my favourite stops on my first visit to the U.S. from Australia. Highly recommended.

“The Gem of South Beach”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

I stop here each time I visit South Beach and it is never a let down. The staff is helpful and they always have the best gifts! Don't let the name fool you - it is not just for visitors new to the area. There is so much more than visitor info - stop by and you will see!
