“Two star hotel with a slick website”
Reviewed October 23, 2011

Usually Tripadvisor reviews match my experience of a place, but once in a while the generally expressed opinion is so far from my own that I'm left wondering if I stayed in the same place that others are describing. This hotel was one of those times, and in this case, I think that the rooms might vary tremendously in different parts of the hotel, resulting in widely varying impressions of the place. On the upside, the hotel has a lovely facade and art deco lobby. The continental breakfast is adequate and the overpriced bar is attractive and presided over by an entertaining bartender named John. The blackout curtains are a nice touch and a helpful porter named Alfredo was another highlight of our stay.

Our room was a deluxe queen in the north building, and I'll quote the website here "...highlighted by a distinctive carpet pattern of chocolates and tans. Dressed all in white, the clean lines of the modern furniture compliment the dreamy white walls, a charming contrast to the beautiful original black and white local photography." OK. In reality, the carpet was stained with large rips near the door, and the walls were more dreary than dreamy and the view was of a narrow alleyway. The bed was rock hard, the lighting poor, the bedding cheap and the pillows flat. The plaster in the small bathroom was peeling and the TV was of the pre-flat screen variety. There was no coffee maker or mini-bar, the "superior bath amenities" are by Bath & Body Works and their "super-soft cotton bathrobes" are of an un-luxurious waffle fabric in a cotton-poly blend. Don't get me wrong: it wasn't a horrible experience; we didn't hate it here; but between the rave reviews on this site and the effusive prose on the hotel's website, we were left feeling disappointed and a little bit duped.

Room Tip: Ask what room you are in, and if they say it's a Deluxe Queen in the north building, make sure t...

this hotel has quite wonderful pics on the internet. i selected through KAYAK and I must say it looked quite fabuloous. in reality the place is a bit drab and quite cheap. the rooms are OK and more or less live up to their intenet pics but the overall idea is a bit oversold. of coourse that is what every hotel tries to do and they did get two night out of me.

so just as a word of warning to fellow E-bookers be somewhat careful as hotels do tend to hire very good fotographers. no misrepresentation really but a false expectation.

Me and my friend stayed in this hotel for the first week of our 2 weeks in Miami. It is a pretty nice hotel in a very good location and pretty reasonably prices. If you are going to Miami not really knowing what its like (we picked the place because we wanted a nice beach) this is a brillaint place to go to see it all. Its only 1 block from the Ocean Drive and the beach and the hotel provides free wifi which is useful for holiday research while you are there.

They charge a cover charge per room per night, I wasn't quite sure what it was for but you get a $5 voucher to spend at the bar there each so didn't mind paying it.

Negatives - rooms are a bit small and me and my friend spent the night sharing a bed but overall good value and would go back.

Room was comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated, all the staff was really freidly, and you're in the heart of South Beach. I can't wait to stay here again!!

I left a rave review from the summer of 2010. I stayed again this past summer (2011), in a different, much smaller room with a pool view. While the room was much quieter, the room was not nearly as nice. (I guess I lucked out the first time.) This was in the south building. Instead of a sofa, there was a small very uncomfortable chair. The TV was smaller. The decor seemed more dated. The bathroom was fine. The Blue Moon has a pleasant, nice smelling lobby. The amenities are still good. The bed was OK, but not amazingly comfortable as before. We must have been upgraded (to a king-size bed and street facing room) last time. This stay the hotel was merely all right. Not bad, but lacking in the charm and comfort of our previous visit. Some of the staff were friendly, one concierge seemed to be a bad mood. These things make a difference.

I arrived at 1130, prior to 300 checkin. Eddy greeted me and was kind enough to say he would call me via phone when a room wa ready. He did within thirty minutes. Thank you Eddy.

Room was very clean and comfortable, though small. No view at all. Bed was upgraded to a king. It was very clean with top and middle sheet instead of a comforter or duvet.

Bathroom was small and tight. Clean but little room for accessories. Tub was art deco era.

They serve a wonderful complimentary continental breakfast. Waffles and fruit were great.

It's always a positive to see painters working outside. More preventative maintenance so the facility maintains its quaint style.

It summary, it really is a nice three star facility.
