“Great Staff, Pool and Environment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

My friends and I had a great time. We sure took advantage of the complimentary drinks from 5-6. Marco(s) and the rest of the guys around the pool were awesome, they treated us like family. The people inside the hotel were pretty cool as well.

Only problem for a guy my size, the bathroom upstairs was mighty tight and bed was for the size of my friend 5'5(little person status)

The location of the Surfcomber is unbeatable. We moved there for just one night after not getting the room we had originally booked at a nearby "posh" hotel. We couldn't have been happier. The staff was so pleasant it was like switching from a dark, stuffy dungeon to a best friend's home. Jackie, who helped us check in and book the room was so charismatic and friendly. Not to mention we arrived at 5:00 pm which was just in time for a pool party and the free wine hour. What more can I say? The room was clean and the bed was comfy. It was small, but not any smaller than we expected. And, even with three girls with two double beds it was just fine. We weren't really in the room that much anyway. We were definitely pleased with the pool area. Again the staff there were super friendly and helpful, finding us some chairs even though it appeared that they all were taken. The DJ was there and the music was great. I'm not sure if they have music every weekend. We ate breakfast the next day at the onsite restaurant and there were mixed reviews. My breakfast burrito was quite good, but my friend's egg white scramble was not the best. But, free coffee in the morning after my run was a huge bonus. I would highly recommend the Surfcomber and I will go back with my husband on our next trip to South Beach. I would not recommend this location if you had children, although we saw them there. Singles, friends and couples don't hesitate. You will not regret your decision!

Room Tip: We were on the third floor and I still heard some street noise at night. I would definitely suggest...

Our room was pretty small, (that would be my ONLY complaint) but clean and with lovely surprises every time we came back to our room. It was my friend's birthday while we were there so one day we got back to the room and there was a nice card signed by the entire staff and a giant red velvet cupcake. Also, there was a bottle of sparkling wine left in the room every night! The entire staff was friendly and helpful and really wanted you to enjoy your stay. The pool was beautiful and having Marco there bringing fresh towels and refreshments was a nice bonus! Really close to the beach and Ocean Drive. We walked everywhere. We add the $1 / day and got the free continental breakfast and cocktails. Really worth it! Croissants were amazing (made fresh each day) and who can beat 5 pm free cocktails!

The location of the Surfcomber was perfect for our stay in Miami Beach. The hotel is a total in-place, has nice staff and the rooms are nicely appointed. The pool area is quiet small though and there were not enough umbrellas for all of the guests that wanted to hang out at the pool (including us). We would definitely stay there again.

I checked in on the 12 of September for 3 nights and I must say it was an excellent stay. The staff was awesome, all very friendly. I wish I had names for the front desk staff but right now it escapes me. But the young lady that checked us in and the gentlemen that checked us out and the overnight lady, were outstanding. They're were two other gentlemen by the name of Eric and Marco who were especially amazing. I really don't know what there titles are but there usually by the pool area attending to any of the guest needs. As for the hotel itself very nice and clean, rooms a bit on the small size but that's expected considering the amazing location. They also offer complimentary wine from 5-6:30 I believe, which really adds a nice touch. Overall I highly recommend this hotel, if your looking to stay in South Beach.

Free wine everyday from 5-6pm, Bill Kimpton started that tradition and we won't ever let it die!

This is a great hotel. From our doorman, Ghulam to the hostess in the Social club ( i think her name was LaToya) the people were friendly and really seemed to like their jobs. In my world that speaks volumes. Our room was spotless and we ate all of iur dinners there. We recommend the Miami Spice dinner deal but, we also ordered from the main menu ( beef shanks - OMG) and we really were happy with everything. OK we even started out wirh a little trouble in our room but the fixed it immediately and the head of housekeeping, Chris A. personally apologized, who does that? Someone who cares. We shall be back. Thank you for making our mini vacation a great vacation.

We absolutely loved this hotel! Location great, just back from the beach and around a 10 minute walk to Ocean Drive so close enough to enjoy it but not so close that you feel like you can't get away from the hustle and bustle of the restaurants and bars down there. If you come out the back of the hotel to the beach turn right for Ocean Drive, there's not much to the left to be honest other than what seems like a lot of hotels under construction, if you go much further then i guess you get to Miami Beach but South Beach is much better so turn right for sure! Much better to walk along the boardwalk to Ocean Drive than along Collins Avenue on the main road, much quicker. We were expecting beachfront restaurants and bars along the boardwalk but it was all hotels which was a little disappointing, seems to be a more European thing to have seafront restaurants, maybe because of the extreme weather the US gets on its coasts. But Ocean Drive has every type of restaurant you could wish for and if you walk down there around 7/7.30pm the restaurants are desperate to start filling their tables so offer up to 50% off the menu which can make an expensive meal a complete bargain!
As for the hotel itself, the pool is lovely and the pool guys in particular make your stay perfect, they just look after you so well and are always on hand for whatever you need. The complimentary chilled water and suncream much appreciated. We only went to the beach once as we're more pool people but the sun chairs and service down there was just as good as at the pool.
There is also a free wine hour from 5pm to 6pm every day which is just the most amazing touch i wonder why more hotels don't do it! The quirky touches like the statue cows and sheep are just cute and the rooms are a pretty good size i thought with gorgeous shower rooms (i think with other rooms you can get a bath too so if that's important to you then request it on booking)
You do pay a resort fee of $20 per night of your stay (plus $4 tax) but you get $10 per day of this back if you spend on food and drinks at the hotel, so if you have one round of drinks at $15 say then it will actually only cost you $5, they take the money off when you check out. If you sign up to the Kimpton In Touch loyalty programme then you also get free wifi in your room and a $10 minibar credit, oh and a glass of bubbles on check in!
The SLS hotel next door did have a pool party the afternoon we arrived but it really wasn't loud and seemed to die down quite early. I would guess in peak season it has more parties but Monday to Friday for us it was so so quiet there that we really didn't see what the fuss was about that some other reviewers have mentioned. It definitely didn't make any noise whatsoever during the evenings, almost everything on the beachfront (well the couple of bars that we found) seemed to shut at around 8 to 10pm which we found a bit odd to be honest but is good for those wanting to get an early night!
Oh and the hotel hires out bikes for free i think, we didn't realise this and paid for bikes at the back of the hotel through the machine there but if you ask at reception i think there are free ones.
Kimpton should be really proud of this hotel, it's one of the best i've stayed in and i have stayed in probably over 100 hotels around the world.

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard room if possible, or away from SLS hotel as i understand that hotel gets quite n...
