“South Beach Gem!”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

An outstanding property situated in the heart of South Beach, The Surfcomber combines great amenities, with a relaxed, funky vibe and exceptional service. Every staff member was gracious, welcoming and committed to ensuring we had a great experience. The hotel is in the heart of South Beach's hustle and bustle, but manages to retain a cozy, hip vibe without being pretentious. The rooms are colorful, fresh and surprisingly spacious considering they are within the original art deco structure. The pool "pasture" is a beautiful oasis, just steps from the beach and boardwalk. Special kudos to Jonathan Hernandez, one of the poolside attendants who hustled constantly to attend to every guest's needs. He was cheerful, professional and helpful and was an outstanding ambassador for the Kimpton brand. I would highly recommend this property to anyone seeking a relaxing escape to South Beach and a first class experience. Be sure to try out the both hotel restaurants. While I'm not normally a proponent of hotel dining, the hotel menus feature a nice mix of creative and innovative dishes and the staff is always happy to customize a cocktail. :)

Room Tip: We stayed in a room overlooking Collins Ave and it was still very quiet. For a more "beachy'...

We stayed here for two nights before heading to Ft Lauderdale for our cruise. Perfect location on Collins Avenue, 5 minutes walk from the restaurants and bars on Lincoln Road. Lovely swimming pool area. Attentive and friendly staff.

just returned from three nights at the Surfcomber. loved the location, the great pool area, and the beach proximity. small rooms and bathrooms but well designed so not claustrophobic, and nice bedding and products. but the best part is the hospitality and the staff - thanks especially to michi at the front desk who was a gracious and caring hostess. and - just a short walk to casa tua and ola, two of the best restaurants anywhere. will definitely return - thanks guys!

Room Tip: coutyard facing room was extremely quiet.

Pros : service service service...the staff will do anything for you, including going out to buy you a magnifier mirror if that's what you need. Free coffee in the morning and free (not so great, but then again, FREE) wine at 5. Pool staff is always there to help with anything.

Cute pool area right off the beach.. Great beach lounges should you wish to sun on the sand ( free, which should not be taken for granted in sobe).

Great location on 17th away from the loud night life next door to the ritz.

Cons: room is small. Bathroom is very small. We had a deluxe king room on the third -top floor with a supposed ocean view...kind of like those Central Park views where if you cock your head left and look past a building you might see a tree branch. Could sort of make out some sky past a lot of other stuff. They desperately need block out drapes over the totally inadequate blinds. Sun woke me very early every day.

Restraints are an astounding rip off. $5 for a cup of coffee( free in lobby).. $14 for the smallest fish tacos imaginable - seriously they were hordervore sized bites.

All in all a good stay but could be great with room improvements.

The 24-hour heated pool is awesome first thing in the morning. The only thing to improve would be to have free wifi instead of 10$ a day. Super-friendly service. Great location. Hot chocolate every night from 8 to 10pm! Free wine hour every day from 5 to 6.

This is my third time here and the first time with my family - they loved it! The location is perfect, the service all good (sometimes over the top) and the whole hotel with its unusual decor and boutique chic is just charming. As usual, the clever little touches are memorable like the free coffee and wine/cider hour, sunscreen, flavoured water and the excellent pool staff - suerb staff ....if it wasn't for the automatic 18% gratuity on everything, I would gladly just put this in their pockets rather than those who actually don't care! The reason why I gave this 4stars this time is Lantao. The barman and waiter oversold it and we had a huuuuuge bill for what could have been spent in a Michelin star restaurant - no lie. As with the other reviewer, have breakfast and light lunch at the Lantao but do try out the really good restaurants if you are prepared to spend $300 on a good meal. Otherwise, I would still go back here next time I come to Miami....it is the best and we were made to feel welcome, no major problems at all for a very reasonable rate in South Beach (rooms, that is). Keep up the good work, Sean and all!

Room Tip: Non-city view are quieter

This hotel is a great value! It is clean, modern, and close to everything. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. In the future I would also check if there is a kimpton hotel in the city I am traveling to and stay there! I love that they are pet-friendly but are very clean and don't smell of pets at all!
