Arrived at noon room was not ready, so I was advised the usual line "check in is 3pm" we went for lunch back at 3.30pm and the room was not ready. After I got a little annoyed at the clerk a room was found.
Concept for the hotel is a great one rooms all contempary white wall, white carpets, white furniture etc but in the short time since opening the entire place looked worn and run down. The furniture had fur balls the size of ping pong balls.the shower had a ceiling panel with duct tape the moisture was turning the ceiling black the door frame in the bathroom looked as if it was rusting away. There were little bugs in the sitting room and when I called the room supervisor I was told it was ants and why was I so surprised being it was summer and it was Florida. The overall condition of the rooms were just not what I expected seeing the reviews and the online details about this hotel. Being the hotel is less than 2 years old and the suite overlooking the ocean had so much potential but it was just not for me. I understand that family style hotels at the ocean have certain drawbacks like sand, ants, and gets run down so soon but what happened to room and hotel upkeep and maintainance.
First evening I asked the concierge where the closest Starbucks was and was told in the Fontainebleu Hotel 5 or 6 doors down. Turns out it was not it was in the Eden Roc hotel which was 4 doors down the road.....hhmmmmm. Next evening asked for the directions to a local restaurant and guess what the answer was, he had no clue. Good thing there is a web to check for this info. Turned out the concierge was also the bell hop. Day before he was dressed in a suit and tie the next was in the regular uniform. I see no harm doing double duty but get to know the city you point and steer hotel guests too. In general the hotel staff try but come up a little short compared to other type hotels.
I really feel the hotel has or had potential to be a good place but somewhere there seems to be a lack of focus to details. On my next visit to Miami I will be staying at a different hotel.
