Mondrian South Beach Hotel
Ranked #37 of 212 Hotels in Miami Beach
Reviewed October 12, 2010

i liked the pool and the lounge, i wanted it to be closer tot he beach but it was not that bad of a walk to and from it, more parking would be also better welcomed. The views of the room i got were not the best, i guess i ws just out of luck comapred to other guests who probably got better rooms.

The Mondrian exceeded all our expectations without a doubt! Both me and my husband were visiting Miami for the first time to celebrate our first year wedding annivesary.
Once arriving at the hotel the reception staff were pleasant, efficient, and also upgraded our room to the penthouse suite as well as offering us free breakfast. This was a great gesture from the staff. The room was very spacious, funky, great views of Miami, a range of tv channels, great shower and a very comfy bed (always a plus).
Breakfast was lovely, especially sitting outdoors whilst glancing at the sea. Staff were more than happy to offer a great service. Anything you needed would be done without asking twice.
The pool area was awesome! The sun was always in a great position to get a tan, and it wasnt too overcrowded. You would get both youngsters and families relaxing.By night the pool area/lounge would turn to a more chilled out vibe whilst thedj was playing.
Location was very on point. No car is needed if you are staying here as South Beach/Collins Avenue/Ocean Drive are a 15 minute walk. There is also a row of shops ranging from a Starbucks to a salon not forgetting a supermarket only 5 minutes away from the hotel.
Decor in the Mondrain is not overrated in the slightest. It is very hip, vibrant, current and sheek from inside and out. It's not like your average hotel, if you want something different this is the place to be!
Overall me and my husband could not praise this hotel enough, we would recommend the Mondrian to anyone visiting Miami who is after a great experience. You will not be disappointed (I'm very fussy and even I couldn't fault it). We would also like to say a huge thank you to all the staff for being very welcoming and helpful. In particular Ryan, there was also another woman at reception who told us the best bars/clubs and restaurants to go to but we can't remember her name.
We are already planning our next trip to the Mondrian. Sarah & Avi

The Mondrian looks good from far, but is far from good. The hotel looks amazing on photos, the pool area is nice (afternoon only), and the rooms are spacious (this seems to go for most Miami hotel rooms). However, they're just one of those trying to hard to be hip, and it end up with not being elegant. If you get the plastic-feeling by entering the room, it doesn't save your image to put a eames chair in there.

The beds are terrible, the air condition or washing machine (something noisy) are built into your closet. And, the concierge is a joke (better of googling yourself).

If you've never been on a boutique hotel before, you will probably be blown away. If you have, don't go - It's just not as good as it seems.

I stayed a weekend after using hotwire (approx. 150) so I did not know the hotel until I booked. Although a native new yorker I did live in south beach for 2 years and am familiar with the area. I liked the hotel, it definitely has a young vibe, although you do see families. The pool is very happening and apparently on sundays there is a huge pool party (poured the sunday we were leaving).

The rooms are large and nice, yes the decor is "modern" there's a huge face on the wall but the bed was large and comfortable and everything worked. At night the bar area is very club-esque with music and drinks and a good looking crowd. As I told my girl, you really have no excuse to stay in since your living in a club. But thats why I chose to stay in south beach vs. mid or north beach.

I lived close to the hotel so for those not familiar, its on the bay side of south beach which is more residential vs. the beach side (ocean drive, collins, washington etc) so you have a lower concentration of restaurants (although lincoln road is close) and nightlife vs the ocean side. The hotel does have a whole foods and starbucks within a couple of blocks.

I booked my hotel on hotwire for $200 plus a night and had high expectations for this hotel. Just check out their website for the beautiful pictures of the hotel. http://www.mondrian-mi...

Unfortunately, it didn't really live up to my expectations but I did enjoy my stay here. It's right on West and 11th St, so you can easily miss the entrance. There are no big signs to indicate you're here. You simply see 1100 W. and know that you're here. Even the entrance to the hotel is beautiful. They have chandeliers on the outside and guys outside to valet your car and open your door. One thing I realize at this hotel is service is excellent. Everyone is always willing to help you in anyway, whether it's the bartender, pool boy, receptionist, etc.

Upon checking in, we went up to our room on the 7th floor. I had a studio with one bedroom and a balcony overlooking the city. It would have been nice if it were overlooking the bay but I didn't mind.

As you walk in, you come across a small dining table with the kitchen to your left and restroom to your right. As you walk forward, you have your living room with a moderate size tv and desk. The design is ecclectic. To your right, is your bedroom. The bed was comfortable. They had a tv in the bedroom too with unlimited channels to watch. Yay! The door connecting the bedroom to the restroom is glass with no lock. The restroom was nice as well. I liked the shower head in particular. It was like a mini chandelier with a shower head in the middle. Super nice and luxurious. The sink was pretty cool too. I can't really describe it. Instead of bowl shaped, it was flat with holes close to where the faucet is. They designed it so that it would not get wet.

The pool area was nice too with several cabanas dispersed throughout and music playing in the background. Since the pool was overlooking the bay, it provided a nice back drop to a nice relaxing day at the pool.

They also had a bar area near the beach and Asia de Cuba diners sat close by. They also have a lounge and bar area inside the hotel where you can drink, socialize, and enjoy the evening.

The reason why I gave it a 4 and not a 5:

-It's not really a hotel. They rent out studios, apartments, etc to people.
-The maintenance of the cabinets, upholsteries were not up to par. There were a few scratches here and there.
-Expensive Valet parking only
-No gift shops
-Expensive Drinks $16 plus mandatory 18% tip (standard rate in South Beach)

FYI
Lots of Tall Beautiful People.
You can park down on 10th street behind Starbucks.

The hotel is quite hard to find when driving as the signage is very discreet but upon arrival it's worth it.
The entrance is amazing and the bell boys and valet parking was smooth and check-in was quick and easy.
We sat by the pool whilst waiting for our friend to finish work and join us and the staff were very helpful. So all in all a 5 stars for staff! It's a little expensive though so I wouldn't recommend having too many beers/cocktail by the pool although the view almost makes it worth it.

Our room was really impressive and much larger than we expected when we booked a studio. They really undersell that so don't be fooled it's much larger than a usual hotel room and really comfortable. I loved the chandelier shower :)

The decor is a little over the top - the decal of the small girl seemed to always be staring at us wherever we sat.

All in all though it was a lovely hotel with staff that know how to provide great service.

Located on newly-fashionable West Avenue, Mondrian is a quiet enclave just minutes from the bustling center of South Beach, offering spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, Biscayne Bay and downtown Miami. Upon entering the soaring lobby, the floor-to-ceiling windows offer stunning views of Biscayne Bay. Immediately the eye is drawn to the masterpiece of the room–an iconic, signature "floating staircase." Black and gold patterned furnishings and oversized brass bell shaped lights add a touch of whimsy and welcome guests to sit and socialize or enjoy the view. ... more   less
