We booked this hotel through hotwire when we planned a last minute trip to Miami over the Easter holiday. We requested a 4 star hotel on hotwire. The Pelican was fine and had many plusses, but if you are accostomed to traveling 4 stars or above, this hotel is not for you.

Pros: The hotel staff was extremely nice and accommodating. The shower heads are amazing. (We've talked about seeing if we can buy one.) The hotel offers complimentary beach chairs and towels. The location is in the middle of the SoBe action. The hotel offers a free happy hour from 4-6 p.m. for hotel guests and the drinks are good and strong. Did I mention how amazing the location is?

Cons: My biggest complaint was the bed. It was billed as a memory foam matress, but it was hard as a rock. The room we had was very small. While I love my boyfriend, we both get a little on eachothers nerves when we don't have space to spread out.

Dear Stefanie, We appreciate you taking the time to review your experience at the Pelican Hotel & we are truly sorry you were not happy with our mattress choice. Our sleep on green mattresses are hand made and consists of three layers . Beginning with a thick layer of Natural Latex, to keep the spine properly supported throughout the night, helping to improve back pains along with relieving extreme amounts of pressure. Some of our guests love them and some request an extra padding to serve as a pillow top. Stefanie, we selected this product because it's hypoallergenic, resistant to bacteria, mold, mildew, breathable, holistic, biodegradable and sustainable.

As a boutique art deco hotel with 29 rooms, we are limited with the size of our rooms but make it up to our guests with the many upscale amenities that we offer. Know that we also offer 6 beautiful spacious suites for those seeking larger accommodations. Should your travels bring you back to Sobe, please send me an email as I would like to extend a loyalty rate in suite accommodations.

Thank you for your kind review,
Lupe Castillo

We have just had a one night stay at the Pelican following a holiday in the Keys.
Firstly the good points. We had the Executive 50's room, which was the room I had asked for when booking - if you do want a particular room specify when you book and they will do the best they can to accommodate your request. We loved the room, and the views were amazing! Could have just sat in the window and watched the world go by, but far too much to see for that! Great location, and as we only had one night was perfect to see everything in South Beach and soak the atmosphere. We found the room surprisingly quiet - you could hear occasional music, or a noisy car go by, but that was all.
We arrived just as happy hour had started, so enjoyed the complimentary drinks on the terrace on Ocean Drive which was a pleasant start to our stay, after a 4 hour drive up from Key West.
The free use of beach chairs and towels was also good - though at first not easy to identify which was the Pelican area. You need to look for the 8th street kiosk.
Most of the staff were really helpful and friendly and willing to help.
The not so good. Although the staff in the restaurant were really good, the food service needs attention. We ordered a starter to share then two mains. The food was all good - but one of the mains arrived, and then it was about another 10 minutes before the other came out, and that was after we had to mention it no the waiter. I would have liked to have thought this was a one off, but when we were having cocktails we noticed this happen to another table.
When we checked into the room, the bin had not been emptied - small thing maybe, but you don't expect that to happen.
The day we checked out we had a 9pm flight, so asked whether we could pay to keep the room until 5pm (normal checkout is 12pm). We had looked online and could see that they were not busy that night. However we were told that this could not be done unless we paid a full nights room rate again. I'm not sure whether this is the normal policy, but in other hotels we have stayed at in the US we have had an option to pay for a few extra hours. We were given the room until 1pm, but would have been nice to have it until later to make full use of our day.
All that said we would stay here again, and as mentioned we loved the funky room you just need to iron out the small things guys.

Dear LoveourHolidays, we thank you for your review and glad to know you enjoyed your suite. We apologize for the delay in service at the restaurant and have shared your feed back with our executive chef. Due to the size of our hotel (27 rooms) it's quite difficult during the month of March to extend a late check out since the guest expects to have access to their room at 3PM. We hope this hick up will not discourage you to return and we truly hope to have the opportunity to make it up to you.

Best regards,
Lupe Castillo

excellent ocean drive location. was noisy at night though but same for all ocean drive hotels. music from hotel next door vvvloud went on past 4.30am, spoke to pelican hotel manager who was very helpful and offered to speak to the other hotel manager to turn it down a bit however it was sping break so i wouldnt advise coming to miami for a quiet relaxing holiday! free cocktails 4pm-6pm every day a good bonus. free sun loungers on the beach but had to pay $15 for an umbrella!

Room Tip: ask for a quiet room although limited for twin beds

The Pelican was awesome!!! A very cool room that looked out over South Beach and Ocean drive, a nice cafe downstairs where you can sit with a huge cocktail and watch the world go by. Very friendly staff, a resident's only happy hour, free sunbeds on the beach! What more could you ask for.
We will be going back and would highly recommend it to anyone else. Thanks Pelican!

Room Tip: The executive 50's and 60's room have a beach view.

This March was my 4th time staying at the Pelican. This time I stayed at "Stars & Strips". Fun hotel, great location on Ocean Drive, very close to night life and no need for taxis.
Happy hour from 4pm to 6pm is super.

We booked a room here through a deal on priceline or one of those sites, and we were pleasantly surprised by how cute the hotel was. Each room is themed...but spacious for the location, very comfortable, and has everything there! The staff went above and beyond during out stay. The location is perfect for nightlife and the beach access. You even get a beach chair and towel complimentary which is a great deal for what they charge per chair if youre not a guest. Cant say enough about this hotel. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

I would definitely recommend this hotel. It's right in the middle of the action and, yet, it was not noisy in the room at night and we were facing the street (Big Bamboo room). We had a dinner and a breakfast at the restaurant and enjoyed both very much. Also sampled the free drinks during happy hour one day.

For us, the best part was the staff - friendly, yet professional - always helpful. Made you feel like you were visiting friends. Thanks Lupe and Miquel for a memorable visit.
