My boyfriend and I wanted to just get away for a weekend and relax. We made our reservation for this hotel through an online booking site and when we arrived we were complimentary upgraded to a beautiful suite. Not only was it very spacious, it was also very clean and trendy. We were right in front of the Ocean and the weather was amazing. We were able to relax just like we wanted to the entire time. There was a band downstairs in the evening which we enjoyed entirely. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

The worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Hallways smelled of human waste, cockroaches in our room, loud dance music playing until the morning with the speaker outside our window. We did not get a second of sleep. No staff anywhere, beds and pillows uncomfortable, the entire hotel dirty. This 'hotel' shouldnt even be open to the public. We left after one night and booked into another hotel for the same price and 10 times better. They refused to give us any refund or discount on our absurdly priced $200 a night room. Avoid!

Chose this hotel to be on the strip of Ocean Drive in a Deco hotel. Well it is in a great location, but the hotels was at best OK. Arrived with a band playing in the courtyard to the dinner guests and asked for a quiet room. The front desk area had multiple chips in the black paint and very ..... seasoned. Given a room card that had a hole punched into it with a key attached. Went to my room which had two locks and no keyswipe. The primary handle was missing and learned which lock the key actuates. The room was recently painted, including light switches. Rooms was nicely apportioned.

The evening didn't get better as the music was quite loud in the room, louder than my normal TV volume. Thankfully, the band stops at 11P. Disappointments continued in the AM when the shower had the handle missing from the valve and it took a LONG time to figure out how to set it to HOT. Then the black mold around caulk...

Lastly, leaving for a 730A meeting and the breakfast doesn't start until 8A?? Blah, at least Starbucks is everywhere and opens early.

Miami beech was fun, but this hotel was rather disappointing in the attention to details. It was clean and in a great location, so 3 stars is what I think it merits.

I did a lot of research for our long weekend and thought I had chosen a ‘happy medium’ hotel. A good mix of price, location and amenities…. Sadly I am terribly disappointed.

At check in we were immediately offended by an extremely surly valet. The valet company are not owned by Hotel Ocean but are employed by them and so I think it only fair to mention them. They are terrible! Only a few hours ago I refused to pay them because they took 40mins to return our car and assumed that as a tourist I didn’t deserve respect and that I didn’t speak enough Spanish to understand when being insulted! Every single time we have had to interact with them we have left disappointed, angry and delayed.

The first room we were given we walked straight out of. There was a bed and very little other furniture but the overwhelming stench of damp was too much. Without fuss they upgraded our room to a suite. (I wonder how often this complaint arises?) The suite is better but not by much. If I was paying the extra for this room I’d be very angry. It is right over the bar and is very loud until very late. The smell of damp is still strong but bearable. However the general feeling of sparseness is irritating.

Only two crumby pillows for a king bed. The lighting is surgical. The towels are few, thin and small. They just about fit round a ladies size US10 waist!!! The bath plug doesn’t plug so water goes out faster than in and forget about having it hot! Would you like a glass of water by your bed at night? Good luck trying to find a glass. Mold a blue cheese maker would be proud of in the bathroom and on the aircon vents. Hmmm, airborne spores. Leaky windows and god only knows when they were last cleaned! Curtains that don’t keep out the sunlight which is invaluable as you’ve been kept awake half the night by the music directly below your window. I won’t even begin on the disgusting sofa and rubbish Ikea furniture. Oh and not forgetting the lift which I think which is vintage MadMen era. Scary.

We were so unhappy that we checked out early and were kindly not penalized financially or charged for the terrible valet. The receptionist was very sweet to us and apologised.
I think most of our complaints could easily be fixed but are probably attributed to the financial situation which has visibly hit Miami hard.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful every time we asked for something. The hotel itself is older, with the pros and cons that come with it. Rooms were large, hardwood, with gorgeous views. They were also a little smelly and dingy looking. We were afraid to touch the sofa! Be prepared that it is not quiet at all at night as some reviewers seem to think. We had a band and dancer playing very, very loudly outside our window each night. When they weren't there, music blasts loudly out of speakers. This seems to be the case with every hotel along the beach, however, so take that into account. We had no idea before going and are the early-to-bed early-to-rise types. Fantastic location directly across the beach. Hotel provides beach towels and even had chairs if you asked. No coffee maker in room and no coffee is put out until 8 am, so bring one with you if you're an early riser. The plus side was the coffee tasted great!

Room Tip: End rooms were much larger, but closer to the noise.

We stayed a few days in september at the hotel ocean. It´s a cute, small hotel right on the pulse of life at the ocean drive. We booked a Deluxe Room with ocean view and got Room 202. And we were surprised. We are sure it was a suite, really big, with a bar, a living room a soft bed and a bathroom with shower AND whirlpool. Every morning we saw the sunrise over the sea right from the bed. Awesome. The hotel ist not new but absolutely clean and and well maintained. So many little details everywhere makes this hotel so charming. The staff were so friendly, and offered their help anytime. ( special thanks to the man at the reception ;)!! ) We got a continental breakfast everyday, with fresh coffee, orange juice, jam, fresh cheese, bagels and toast. Really okay. If you need sausages in the morning, a lot other hotels offer an intercontinental breakfast for a cheap price.

This hotel is not for people who need absolutely silence, it is pretty loud at the Hotel Ocean and thats all the time, because it´s at the OCEAN DRIVE! But we were so tired and exhausted from the long day and the experiences that we fall into the bed and slept like a stone and heared nothing. ;)

We really enjoyed our stay and we are sure that we will coming back to Miami and to the Hotel Ocean. And maybe we´ll get the room 202.

Best regards

Na. & Re.

Room Tip: Ask for room 202! If you want a quiet room? Forget it! ;) Or ask the staff!
