My partner and I decided to visit Miami for Spring Break and after reading online reviews, I settled on The National for a 4-night stay. The concierges and bellmen were all very friendly and helpful from checkin to checkout. We reserved an ocean view room, which was a decent size and it was not to be able to look out the window at the ocean and open a window and hear the breeze (the windows only open a half foot or so). The room was equipped with small TV, lots of plugs and charging ports, and nice desk. The bathroom was on the small side, but included nice toiletries and had both an overhead shower head and a European-style handheld shower head. The bed was very comfortable and the wi-fi worked well. We had an issue where the towel hook on the bathroom door became unattached, when I called, they sent someone immediately to fix it, despite it obviously not being an emergency.
We took advantage of the famous long pool (which is not temperature controlled), the small heated pool, as well as the beachside loungers throughout our stay and all of that was very pleasant with helpful staff. While by the pool, I ordered the Mediterranean platter and some drinks, all of which was tasty.
I took advantage of the gym, which is in a small room with limited equipment -- a few cardio machines, dumbbells up to 50 pounds, a weight pulley machine and an exercise ball. So, certainly enough to get in a decent workout. The one essential that was missing was a bench.
Overall, the National definitely met my expectations and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
